Lamar Wants to Come Home

Who says the pandemic isn't a blessing for some?  Lamar Adams wants to come home due to the possibility of contracting Covid-19 in prison.

Adams has served 17 months of a 235-month sentence in federal prison for wire fraud.  He defrauded hundreds of victims out of more than $100 million* through a ponzi scheme that used phony timber investments.

Adams filed a sealed motion for compassionate release on May 28.  The Justice Department opposed the motion.  Their response states the Bureau of Prisons denied Adams' request for compassionate release on April 29.  Adams stated he suffers from hypertension, high cholesterol, psoriasis, and vertigo.  The Department argues those conditions can be properly managed in prison.  The response states the prison (Forest City, Ar) has "one of the highest number of infected inmates" but there has been only one Covid-19 death.  Adams apparently was housed at a unit where an inmate contracted the virus.

The Justice Department argues Adams is not suffering from a serious or terminal illness.  He possesses his mental faculties.   He didn't identify "extraordinary and compelling reasons" for a sentence reduction  The response states:

The mere existence of the COVID-19 pandemic, which poses a general threat to every non-immune person in the country, does not fall into either of those categories and therefore could not alone provide a basis for a sentence reduction. The categories encompass specific serious medical conditions afflicting an individual inmate, not generalized threats to the entire population. As the Third Circuit has held, “the mere existence of COVID-19 in society and the possibility that it may spread to a particular prison alone cannot independently justify
compassionate release.”

The Department said the Court can't place Adams under home confinement because it has no power to do so.  Such authority rests only in the Bureau of Prisons.  The Court can only concern itself with the length of the sentence, not where the sentence is served.

* The SEC claims in a separate lawsuit that the amount of losses was $164 million.

Everyone at Shawshank is "innocent", and just had "a lawyer fuck them". Truer words ever spoken. Good movie. Let him go.

Go home? He no longer has a home. He is getting better medical care than he deserves. His wife divorced him. His kids are probably broke due to his schemes. Stay where you are and keep your mouth closed. You no longer have the membership at CCofJ. Remember that song by Bob Hope, “thanks for the memories”.

What a narcissist-

apparently post conviction relief motions were not factored into his contract when he hired counsel. that's why he's proceeding pro se. hey, it doesn't cost anything to ask.

What a baby back bitch!

It costs the government(taxpayers) something to respond.

Is prison supposed to be a healthy, safe, and fun place like say, a country club? Or is it a place where those who misbehave so badly that they are banished there so as not to associate with almost everyone else?

Only in less rational places like new york city do they release felons back into "society" to avoid the chance of catching the wuhan chinese virus.

Serious re-thinking is needed.

''life without a $90,000 extended cab pickup, yeti coolers, and costa sunglasses is just unbearable. ed cates got to wear his sunglasses in prison . why can't i ''?

Bless his heart. This reminds me of the line by the preacher in "Blazing Saddles": "Son, you're on your own!"

What an Oxford worm....too many of them to count.

If this guy gets a early release then there truly is two justice systems in America. (actually, there are two regardless of what happens to Lamar).

Regardless, this guy needs to stay in jail and if he is let out early then someone is getting paid off.

Isn't he just as likely to contract coronavirus in prison as outside of prison? 50/50 chance. either you contract it or you don't.

McHenry will sponsor his release and has a spare bedroom. After all, it was Lamar's testimony that allowed McHenry to escape justice.

Ah, Covid 19 stuff. Does anybody remember that one time we had people go crazy and they would accuse people of "wanting people to die" and if they saw somebody not wearing a mask they'd be like this

Oh those were some crazy times

What is an Oxford worm and what does it have to do with this post?

Anonymous said...

@12:28 PM
An Oxford Worm is a brain parasite that infects people who either got some sort of joke degree from a cow college or wish their GED was a degree from a cow college. This parasite slowly consumes their brain for their entire life and only goes dormant when the victim needs legal or medical help.

Speaking of Oxford, I am pretty sure Ole Miss will not welcome him after repaying all of Lamar’s generous gifts.

11:38 - Lighten up Francis.

The Bureau of Prisons has ruled against this motion by Adams.

The Dept of Justice has filed papers against this move by Adams.

The only person so far identified as supporting this idea is --- Adams.

There is no evidence, hint, or droplet of an idea of anybody 'getting paid'.

Understand that you are one of those that believes that's how all of government works, but please come back with a little more basis for it before you start spreading your crap.

Was Brent Alexander finally let go from Baker? I don't see him listed anymore on the website.

1:21- Reading comprehension must not be one of your stronger skills. 11:38 starts with "If this guy".

The point was that this guy could only get out of jail early if someone were getting paid.

Totally off topic, but since we are talking about Oxford...is the best y'all could grow with the beer showers in the outfield is a 3rd pick in the draft? Good thing Bianco got that participation trophy for coach of the year after 17 games. Hopefully his talent is rewarded with a contract extension and a salary increase.

Carry out about the new age Dicky Scruggs.

McHenry might be the only person associated with this scam as a buyer or agent who would have enough money left to get him out. He had better hurry, because he will not have it long when they finally run it down. McHenry wrote an impassioned plea which can be read under madisontimber website.

Can you blame him.

Man, you folks are hard-asses. Give the poor man a chance. I say he should absolutely get compassionate release and so should all criminals currently held in prisons...just as soon as he and the rest of them compassionately uncommit all of the crimes they committed. They will then be free to walk out of prison just like they had never committed any crimes. I mean, that's not only a fair deal but it seems...compassionate, too.

1:21's reading comprehension is fine said...

@3:41 - I have no reading comprehension failures. I read exactly what was said.

My point was, is, and was stated - there are some folks who believe that government employees (be they political appointees or career non-political grunts) get paid off for doing things improperly or in this case illegally. That's not how government generally works, and there is nothing involved in this case to evoke such a comment. In fact, everything that is occurring is exactly to the opposite.

Do officials sometimes do things illegal for wrong reasons? Absolutely. And when they do, they should be called out.

But, when the system is operating as it should, people (career, political and other employees) are doing their job as it should be done there is no reason to imply that they would possibly do otherwise.

No reading comprehension education needed.

The worm comment is to remind everybody how many shysters that draft on "who they know" from there - and that keep coming out of Oxford. They engage in this despicable type of behavior, yet are for some reason "proud" of their relationship to the racist institution. You know it is true. Couldn't care less about the other school.

I nominate the commentator at 5:17 to be a board member, hell maybe even an officer, of Empower MS. Gilbert, Lee et.al. should all move over and get some more help with their effort to turn loose criminals (they put a lot of emphasis on the term "non-violent") and lower their tax burden of paying for their incarceration.

Let's ask them about the Lamar Adams issue - his was "non-violent". And since he didn't bilk any of those folks out of any of their millions, I'm sure they would welcome Lamar back into society, joining them at the bar at CCJ, and surely have a place for him on their Board.

Turn him loose - he has lots of ideas that could be shared with us on the art of the deal.

In light of the current climate of the country Lamar Adams is a political prisoner.

Free Lam Lam, until it’s backwards!

If you don't resist arrest, you won't be killed by the police. If you don't fuck people over and commit crimes, you won't go to jail.

Meanwhile, Alexander frequently spotted driving his convertible Mercedes around while wearing a pimp hat. Thanks Dave.

in the opening paragraph of this thread adams list site a few ''ailments''. this is how it works folks. adams had all those ailments the entire time he was out on the street scamming people for millions. when he got sent to prison those ailments went along with him.
could somebody please explain to me how he could run a very complex and elaborate fraud scheme despite all those ailments, but he just cant serve federal prison time with those same ailments?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
