Several families demanded justice for relatives whom they claim died as a result of police brutality in Jackson. WAPT covered a press conference they held at the law office of Dennis Sweet:
Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba responded:
“The City of Jackson has acted swiftly, appropriately, and within its power with respect to all of the cases mentioned during today’s press conference held by the Law Offices of Sweet & Associates. We are grateful to the District Attorney for clarifying the City’s response with respect to the Mario Clark and George Robinson cases. Not only were these cases, per the DA’s statement, referred to their office, but action was taken immediately to remove those officers off the street during their pending investigations. In the Mario Clark and John Knight cases, the officers were terminated immediately. In the Mario Clark case, those officers were brought back on duty by the Civil Service Commission. That decision is currently being appealed by the City.”
as did Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens:
George Robinson died on January 13, 2019 and Mario Clark died on February 14, 2019. The previous administration received both cases in March of 2019.JJ reported January 23, 2019:
Since being sworn into Office this January, my administration has been actively investigating both cases and has been in contact with Mayor Lumumba and attorneys of the families involved. It is the policy of the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office that all evidence generated from death investigations involving police officers is presented to a Hinds County Grand Jury to determine whether criminal charges against the police officers involved is warranted.
The COVID 19 pandemic has temporarily limited the ability of Hinds County District Attorney’s Office to convene a Grand Jury. Both cases are being prepared for Grand Jury presentment and Grand Jury action is anticipated in both the Robinson and Clark cases in the very near future.
In as much as both the Robinson and Clark cases are the subject ongoing investigations the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office will make no further comments until such investigations are completed and a Hinds County Grand Jury has taken action regarding the same.
JPD Chief James Davis said last week that SWAT team members and K-9 unit searched a house on Jones Street looking for a suspect in the murder of Pastor Anthony Longino. Witnesses said police struck Robinson in the head with a flashlight. Family members told WAPT that UMMC doctors said Robinson died of head trauma. Earlier post.

When I was 19 I got a DUI in a nearby city. That was in 1985. The White Policeman (Im a white male) stood me at my car door and repeatedly asked me if I had been drinking, and I kept saying “no” while tapping me on the head increasingly harder each time with a billy club, while his partner who was a black female watched. Yep...he brought blood.....nope....I didn’t make one complaint and to this day I’m thankful he did what he did. Maybe I’m different. Oh, by the way, mom and dad didn’t step in and cause a stink. I got in trouble and paid the price.
Black cops beating up blacks? Funny, I figured CNN, MSNBC, PBS, NBS, ABC, and CBS would be all over this with wall to wall coverage.
I bet Pelosi and Schumer will fly into town this afternoon to make on the scene statements.
Inner city kids & BLM are told "police are a tool of white supremacy & not to comply with anything they say". So, now police have an impossible job to accomplish. Law & Order.
. . . "action was taken immediately to remove those officers off the street . . ."
Yeah, what he said.
Knowing that the general public has bad people in it, I am not surprised that there are bad police officers. However, I don't think it is systemic and de-funding the police is silly.
Unsafe areas will become more crime ridden. The good citizens (the majority) will not be able to get medical care as no ambulance or firetruck will go into a crime ridden area without police escort. Restaurants and stores will close and move elsewhere because without LEO the few bad apples will rob and steal the businesses into bankruptcy.
Any politician who says they are for de-funding police or ending community policing is simply trying to pander to the hysterical left wing terrorists.
Fair, consistent, professional policing is needed. Although I don't know who in the hell would want to do this job given the fact that nobody seems to give a damn about them.
I'm honestly becoming numb to this police brutality argument.
If these people will NOT address WHY their "loved" ones were even having a confrontation with police, the issues will never go away. If these people were fully INVESTED in their children, they wouldn't be running the streets. (I mean this for ALL races!) Young people in Jackson are overwhelmingly told the police and the man are out to get them. I know first hand of a minority JPS school teacher that told a young class with only minority children that their parents better vote for Clinton during the last presidential election or the police would take them from their families and they'd never see them again. These children are TAUGHT to fear the police and government from a very early age, which sets them up for a lifetime of issues and excuses.
These "poor, innocent" people claiming brutality are typically disrespectful, combative, and give off extreme vibes... that's 99% of the REAL ISSUE! Because everyone is so volatile and full of hate for police, the police are always on a hyped offensive. Why can't we address the real issues... BOTH SIDES need to address their shortcomings. The "FREE PASSES" and excuses for criminal activity and poor choices MUST END! And, police need better training and mental health support.
If you look into the early years of many criminals, you'll find the parents were failing them during their formidable school years (likely since birth, but school is typically the system's first ability to track issues.) Teachers deal with some of the sorriest excuses for parents over something as simple as their child's education. Anyone involved in education can, unfortunately, predict which children will likely fall into trouble as they age. NOT BECAUSE OF THE POLICE OR THE WHITE MAN, but because their parents are making every single excuse for them to not try, or take responsibility for their actions, or even set goals for themselves to have a brighter future. EVERYTHING is someone else's fault. During the early years, the teachers get blamed... as the children age, we move on to blaming the police. If only parents would act BEFORE they are giving these types of press conferences...
And, to those who think the police are some superhuman folk who can withstand anything. YOU need to do one of two things... 1. ride with the police for a week and experience what they deal with, or 2. Invite a group of people who HATE YOUR GUTS into your workspace. Let them stand over you and throw things at you, shout eff you, sing songs about killing you, while destroying your workspace. Let's see how long you last before you deck one of them.
Are these victims claiming black on black brutality or were any of the officers implicated white? Would seem relevant in the context in which these matters are being addressed (alleged endemic police department racism).
In 2018, the number of unarmed whites killed by police (19) was more than double the number of unarmed blacks killed by police (9) nationally. See Wall Street Journal, June 2, 2020, article by Heather Mac Donald (citing a Washington Post database for the year 2018).
Where do the people go who demand justice from the thugs?
Many people have relatives who have died at the hands of career criminals who were let out of jail to prey on them.
We need someone who will stand up for us.
Shockway "it's always someone else's fault" Lumooba
WE WANT JUSTICE!!!!! But a large cash settlement will suffice.
I avoid police brutality when I interact with police by not appearing to be a threat and also by following their instructions.
For whatever reason some people believe that the proper way to interact with law enforcement is to begin recording and act like they were raised by the hyenas at the zoo.
You people should check out the Police Activity channel on YouTube. They have hundreds of bodycam videos of police shootings of all races. And you will never find "victim" you can sympathize with.
1:53, how about Daniel Shaver? You don’t sympathize with his murder at the hands of a psychopath who was found not guilty and rehired so he could leach off his pension? When you follow police orders and get murdered, someone should go to jail. To think otherwise is idiotic.
1:53 PM Great Comment! You can drop the mic & leave the stage.
Lesson: Never let a good manufactured crisis go by without trying to capitalize financially on it.
Can you imagine what Jacktown will be like if they "defunded the police". Heaven help us!
Law enforcement officers with at least 15 years are praying they make it to retirement. I feel for the younger cops that got into the profession. I'm sure they have second guessed their decision at some point.
Two jobs I wouldn't want. Law enforcement and teaching. In both cases you deal with idiot parents whose child never does anything wrong.
God help these poor people that have to live in these urban "inner cities".
Without a police force, they are doomed.
I can't believe even a few intelligent liberals are pandering to the radical gangs about this goofy idea.
Thankfully I live in a rural area that will always enforce law and order.
Don’t break the f ing law.
" Can you imagine what Jacktown will be like if they defunded the police. Heaven help us! "
Their hand's have been tied since the current Mayor was elected.
That's not as much a cleché than a fact.
Just ask any JPD officer.
Personal injury attorneys recognize this time as a window of opportunity for claims against the police. If these families have any hope of riding the national momentum to a sizable settlement especially where no white cop was involved, they had better make some noise now. In a matter of days they'll be drowned out as the murders continue to pile up and the police continue to respond as they always have. Things will get back to normal and the media will find something else to explode.
When I was younger and more, shall we say, impetuous, I had an encounter with some of Rankin County’s finest. I was told by one deputy that if I didn’t quit acting out that I would be tased. I immediately went into respect mode.
Again, I was TOLD ONCE.
No taser was deployed.
" Several families demanded justice for relatives whom they claim died as a result of police brutality in Jackson."
Key phrase:
( They claimed )
It's all about money now, not "justice".
Why didn't they bring such allegations at the time their loved ones died ?
Excuse me, I forgot about the current hysteria.
That little man Al Sharpton, did get quite a few people worked up at the most recent Floyd memorial service.
But Chokwe Antar Lumumba is the Mayor, so if these allegations are true, ultimately it will be his fault.
Come join us in Canton for our Candle Light protest walk tomorrow Thursday 11 June 2020 to begin at 7pm. Walk will be from the Old Depot to the Old Court House area on the square returning to the Depot. See you all there. Contact City Hall at 601-859-4331 for further information.
A friend was filing a police report recently for damage done to a home that he rents and the policeman refused to add that a water heater and a/c was stolen because he said that he didn't believe the property owner. Really? There is no longer a water heater where one belongs and there is no longer a window a/c where one belonged. Tenants are bad about vandalizing property when they know that they are going to be evicted for failure to pay their rent.
The perpetually offended strike again...
These posts reveal that white privilege is alive and well.
Defund The Police????
Ok no 911 calls will be answered in your area, no bam-a-lances either.
The eternally offended and forever victimized are out in full force. Looking for a payday. Nothing else. Just that simple.
