DPS: CBD Products Dangerous

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued the following statement.

Top officials from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Mississippi Department of Health held a joint press conference today warning the public on the dangers of all CBD products available for purchase in the state.

CBD is a cannabidiol derived from a cannabis plant such as Hemp or Marijuana, which are both illegal in Mississippi. There is currently no federal or state oversight for products containing CBD, and no studies are available validating the safe use of CBD oil. The agencies are stressing that until there are scientific studies and oversight – it is not safe to use CBD oil regardless of where you purchase it.

“We have no idea what ingredients or amounts are in these products and without proper labeling, you do not know what you are consuming and that is dangerous,” said Marshall Fisher, Commissioner of Public Safety.

“Testing of CBD products purchased around the state have shown that the overwhelming majority of CBD products are mislabeled. A large number of the products contain narcotics that are illegal under both state and federal law. The public safety and health concerns arising from the  sale and use of these products are alarming,” said John Dowdy, Director of the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.

Mississippi State Health Officer, Dr. Thomas Dobbs continued to stress the importance of being aware of products containing CBD. “You really do not know what you are buying, and I am incredibly concerned about the safety of all CBD products. Without any federal or state oversight, consumers are taking great risks for their safety.”

Kingfish note: The Louisiana Pharmacy Board pulled this number and caught so much grief the law was quickly changed.

Oh well, it looks like we won't be able to buy Dan Bilzerian's product here in Mississippi.

Isn't it funny how small government conservatives love to interject government into your life and reduce your freedoms in the process?

Nowhere in the above article does it mention CBD products are illegal.

These are the same goofballs who cannot even administer driver license testing!!!

Not a proponent or opponent, I think folks should make their own dumb choices, but who tested these products?

Well, since you didn't link to the original statement, and I haven't found it yet (perhaps it's not online), I can't say for certain, but the headline does not accurately summarize the content of this post.

I'll avoid suggesting that it's intentional clickbait and just assume it's sloppy work.

Howdy Dowdy is well known for substituting his personal philosophy for agency protocol and state law. I've heard him say more than once, "I'm just personally opposed to it and don't want it approved and am determined to fight it". Regardless.

Who cares what his personal philosophy is?

Good grief, they can't stop the flow of meth and cocaine but now they gonna check little old ladies' mailboxes for their arthritis relief.

I'm sick of government over reach and the growing police state.

12:43 =-- AMEN!

Because of the evils of the drug Zertec D it was taken off the shelf and has to be prescribed. Marshall Fisher was head of bureau of narcotics and determined that this would reduce the meth manufacturer. So this should mean we have no meth problems in the state since he fixed it. You can still buy it off the shelf in Alabama, Louisiana and Tennessee but if you bring it into Mississippi they can charge you with transportation of a controlled substance. We have some real geniuses running this State.

Wonder how much Big Pharma paid them???
Users do need to be careful of the source (similar to the vaping product issue), but there are health professionals who will make recommendations. Veterinarians are using it successfully with animals.

this state and the people who run it are right out of a chapter of alice in wonderland

Big Government Baptists strike again.

It's a plant. A plant that grows naturally. This has all been a hoax. The "War on Drugs" is a scam. The government has been spending trillions of dollars allegedly to fight drugs. We have an opioid problem. The opioid crisis began at about the same time as ae went into Afghanistan. Look what prohibition did. The killings and corruption was rampant. The war on drugs has had the same results.

I buy this for knee pain. Shop on Briarwood near Cowboy Maloney and Fuddruckers.

Reefer Madness depicts everything you need to know about pot.

They are just posturing to tax and to regulate you. With the richest soil in the world Mississippi should be figuring out how to profit from the hemp empire but no they will regulate Mississippians into non players in this industry. Farmers could be making billions right now and could be shipping their crops all across America. The processing and manufacturing facilities will be elsewhere while our political geniuses are developing a plan..

@7:59. It's a plant. So are Hemlock, Belladonna, tobacco, and any number of naturally occurring poisons -- all plants. Some plants produce dangerous products. Cannabis is one of them. Not comparable to alcohol. Alcohol while certainly poisonous and debilitating if misused does not make its users stupid. It is particularly harmful to developing brains. Ole Miss's own Mahmoud ElSohly has done abundant research on this and other aspects of cannabis.

I am an old man who first used the sh*t in 1959. Fortunately for me I figured out the "fun" part of feeling stupid after smoking pot just meant it made me stupid. Sure enough I watched. Other people smoked the stuff, giggled a lot, felt "boss," did stupid stuff. Their lives had a way of not working out real well. Later I noted that you did not see a bunch of pot smoking among medical students, pilot trainees, people studying for their actuarial certifications, bar exams, etc. You do see a lot of pot use among burglars, drunk drivers, DUI defendants, people on death row. Ever notice how many times marijuana use comes up in capital cases? It's probably just a coincidence or maybe it really does make you stupid, lower inhibitions and lead to conscienceless behavior.

I don't care. I don't drink, smoke dope, cigarettes, vape, sky dive, ride motorcycles, or have unprotected sex with barnyard animals.

As someone who eats hemp seed and oil, I can tell you that it is a miracle superfood. And occasionally smoking small quantities of high quality recreational cannabis is better for you than consuming any quantity of distilled alcohol.

But it is bad for so many industries that prey on us that of course our elected official need to protect us from God's own creation and be replaced by lab produced pharmaceuticals.

I don't know where this author got their information from? Hemp-derived CBD is legal in all states! This is another push by the Big Pharma to keep people from receiving benefits for their health issues from Natural substances! God gave us the plants we need to help us heal! Big Pharma can't get a patent on a natural substance so therefore they must make it "bad"!

Having said this, consumers should know where their CBD is originating from. Do not purchase this on the internet as you have no idea what other toxic substances have been added.

Well said @ 11:23

LOL cannabis is not a dangerous plant. Some of you people need to get outside the four walls of Mississippi for a change.

Some of you really need to learn the difference between marijuana, which is illegal, and CBD, which is not illegal under federal law or the law of virtually every state. As for the guy who assumed that doctors and lawyers don’t smoke pot but panhandlers do, well, you would be surprised. Just how do you think the recreational marijuana industry is profitable in states where it is currently allowed if it’s users are generally broke?

And, if lack of testing makes a product unsafe, isn’t it on the Government to go ahead and get to testing as opposed to telling us a product is not safe. Without testing, the state does not actually know that yet.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
