The man accused of killing Percy King and his son sits in the Hinds County jail as he awaits a mental evaluation.
JPD arrested Jamario Bell on January 19, 2018 for the murder of Percy King and his son, Jarvis Birthfield. The killings took place in King's front yard on Scott Street. King was a former zookeeper at the Jackson Zoo. He was known as "The Snake Man." He entertained the children of Jackson for years with his reptile collection at parties, fairs, and even libraries. He was 57 years old while his son was 19.

Hinds County Judge Bill Skinner denied bond for Bell. A grand jury indicted him in May 2018 for first degree murder in the two deaths. Bell asked for a mental evaluation a year ago. Circuit Judge Jeff Weill granted the request. The case is now assigned to Judge Adrienne Whooten. It was continued in February as the defendant awaits evaluation.
Bell was busted in 2016 for drug-dealing but was never indicted. He was free on a $25,000 bond that was issued on December 28, 2016. He still has not been indicted for that charge.

senseless ... and in his own front yard. RIP
Has a motive ever been announced?
Really sad, that anyone would shoot and kill anyone not trying to kill them. Also really sad how long you can drag out justice if that is your goal.
How long is the wait for a damn mental evaluation? Must be waiting on his insurance to approve. Wait for it, Wait for it
