Wonder if Whitey will mention that he went to Jackson Prep and won basketball championships there. He seems to keep that fact hidden as he brags about his playing career at MSU.

Somebody save us all and get Katherine Tate off the stage and out the door. That 'Bitzy' woman is ditzy.

Anonymous said...

Hughes and Doty are the only ones up there who seem to know what they’re talking about.

It’s almost refreshing to see these candidates make no bones about who they will serve. All hail the Kochs! Plus, they’ve all sworn fealty to Trump. Not even a pretense to care about the people who will vote one of these seat warmers into office. They remind me of the Simpsons “Forgettable Presidents” song. Perhaps one day we will see a real candidate run for Office again. I’m doubting it, though.

Anonymous said...

Tate is correct - she is "truly different". Not sure what she thinks what she just described has to do with anything, but I guess that's because she really is "truly different".

Latino cut several candidates out of their time to respond. If he's really planning to do this again, he needs to have a moderator that competently serves - and lets each candidate get their time to speak.

What's your point?
That his parents cared enough to send him to a good school, as opposed to the shit-holes of JPS? Do you even know what JPS was like in the years he was in high school?

Anonymous said...

You know a candidate is pulling ahead when he gets the type of trivial attacks from anonymous sources.

Anonymous said...

7:09 I graduated from a Jackson Public School (obviously majority black). I learned little. If the best you can do against ole Whit is to criticize him for going to a school that actually prepared him for college then you have a very weak argument.

And no, I'm not planning to vote for him, even though I went to MSU.

Anonymous said...

What's wrong with playing sports at Jackson Prep?

Anonymous said...

7:09, I don't look at it as bragging, any more than the other candidates talking about things they have done that helped them develop into the people they are today. I can usually tell when I meet someone whether they have played a team sport or not. We haven't even met and I'm guessing you were in the band.

Anonymous said...

7:45 - Not macho enough for the band. Maybe Chess Club, or A-V Crew.

Anonymous said...

It's probably a good idea to look at the demographics in the third before you start referring to someone as whitey as an insult.

Anonymous said...

7:45am--haha! Exactly

7:09pm--it is usually a clear sign the the candidate you are opposing is moving ahead when you have to resort to ad hominem criticisms (look it up) instead of substantive policy disagreements.

Anonymous said...

7:09. A LOT of people play high school sports. Not many play division 1 basketball, star player or sub. Not sure what it has to do with politics, but it is something to b proud of. Not a whit r msu fan.

I think the only one who truly understands our financial predicament in any meaningful real world way is the closest thing to the Monopoly guy Seminary has to offer.

Please tell me that the desire for fiscal sanity talking points are just that, talking points. The mortgage foreclosure rate is higher now than it was in 2007/8/9 according to the St, Louis Fed, and the fed is slowly injecting a big bundle of mortgaged backed securities into the “financial services” sector as part of its unwinding program to end quantitative easing. The reset, errr ummm, “take off” (lol) is going to be interesting to say the least.

We left the mad hatter’s tea party and fell down the financial rabbit hole. We won’t be returning for quite some time.

Sorry I missed the debate. The recap by the Clarion Ledger for Whit Hughes says options are raise taxes or borrow more money. If he said that you can know he lost my vote right there .

Anonymous said...

It's kinda interesting that jp is actually located in the 3rd District and is considered a premier school, yet the school name is listed no where on his website (guess he wasn't a proud alum).

It must be that the focus group was turned off by the name.

What has Whit been doing since the Final Four in 96? He seems likable enough but I want to know more about his experience. What is he bringing to the table other than the usual conservative spill.

Kingfish said...

At least he didn't fight in Vietnam.

Anonymous said...

8:38 if you are accurately quoting the CL, then that clearly shows their ineptitude. Hughes said there were THREE options. You listed the first two. He clearly stated he favored the third option, and objected to these two. Don't know if CL failed to report correctly, intentionally or otherwise, or you misread. But clearly not a one of these six candidates would make a statement like that.

Except maybe the crazy Tate woman. Gotta agree with comments above - that woman doesn't known what she doesn't know. Get her off the stage.

Whit Hughes worked for the MDA- the EPITOME of Mississippi crony capitalism.

Also, in the debate the previous night hosted by Madison Women GOP, when asked if he would have voted for the 1.5 trillion omnibus, Hughes gave a VERY weak answer, something like, "well I would like to think I would not have but...there were a lot of good things in the bill" etc etc.

If this guy gets in there he will be a BIG GOVERNMENT LIBERAL.

Now imagine Michael Guest cross examining Hillary Clinton or James Comey. I could see him in the mold of Trey Gowdy or the guy from Utah who's name escapes me. Guest would do Mississippi proud.

. Whit coached my son and made a very good impression on him. My son is not athletic and he told me last week that Coach Hughes was always kind to him and the nicest basketball coach he ever had. Some of his coaches in elementary and middle school never let him play and ignored him. Whit encouraged him and worked with him. This was several years ago, but it goes to show that sometimes what goes around comes around, because it gained him at least 5-10 votes in my circle, probably more. I wasn’t impressed by the other candidates, prior to finding out about his kindness to my son. Now that I know, I will be voting for Whit and urging my friends and family to do the same. If there was a stellar candidate that I was already behind, this might be a hard decision, but given that it boils down to Guest, Whit’s my pick.

I have personally witnessed Guests office avoid prosecuting cases that were not politically favorable for them. He does what is politically favorable, not what is just.

Ole Miss is happy to have a Jackson Prep running back headed their way next year. No shame in playing sports at Prep. Besides, who really has any control over where they went to high school?

I mean, our governor can’t help that he went to one of the “now defunct” academies.

Anonymous said...

@10:28 didn't Phil attend a JPS school?

Anonymous said...

The biggest disappointment of the night was Perry Parker. I thought at one time he might be a contender, but instead he came across as an arrogant 1%er. I still can't figure out if Mr. Parker has always been so arrogant, or if his arrogant campaign manager is rubbing off on him.

Anonymous said...

Agreed, Parker has been disappointing. Who is his campaign manager?

Anonymous said...

To 10:28, unless you can convince "Mackle Jo Canna" to dig real deep, that JP running back ain't gonna make it to the GRROOOOOOOOOOVE. Nobody beats a MLB signing bonus. NOOOOOObotty.

Glad to see whacked out Dow Yoder, errr 9:41, come out from the bunker. Dude, move on dot org from your blind ambition to get over on him. You got the ax for a reason.

Anonymous said...

Parker's campaign manager is Hayes Dent.

Anonymous said...

I’m 9:41 and I can assure you I’m not Dow Yoder. I am a victim who tried to make the DA do his job. The perpetrator had more political clout than I do. White collar. If I furnished details, anyone from his office would probably know who I am. My children have connections to his family and I won’t cause them problems. All I know about Dow Yoder is what I have read on here, which might lead me to be offended by your remarks.

Anonymous said...

Perry Parker is the Chris McDaniel of the house race, but with more money (personally). There isn’t a doubt in my mind that the AFP (aka Russ Latino) is backing Parker just like they back McDaniel and his crazy a$$.

bill said...

11:36, you need to let a little doubt into your mind. AFP doesn't back any candidates in a primary election. Ever. They have gotten involved in the ground work of elections where there's a candidate who reflects their positions and one who doesn't, but never in a primary. Russ can vote for who he wants to, but don't look for him to make that vote public.

Anonymous said...

Bill,
The AFP couldn't even be bothered to spell one of the candidates names properly in the "poll" that they ran after the debate. And somehow Perry Parker "won"? Give me a break. The man couldn't do anything except repeat his mantra over and over and make condescending remarks about his opponents. Most entities like the AFP don't "endorse" a candidate, but they have a favorite and it's clear who their favorite is.

Also, these folks that want to push for term limits will do nothing but make a bad situation worse. You put term limits in place and the only people running things will be those with deep enough pockets to sway Congress or the lobbyists. When you don't have to worry about being reelected you don't have to worry about playing dirty. And if you think the system is broken now, just implement the term limit situation in Congress.

So here's how I feel about the candidates:
1. Sally Doty - Not my favorite, but understands the legislative process
2. Michael Guest - Hell of a prosecutor, but I'd rather see him in the AG's office
3. Whit Hughes - Another Barbour puppet (much like Tater Tot)
4. Morgan Dunn- I think she stepped to far up. I think she meant to qualify for Andy Gipson's seat and got confused
5. Perry Parker - Chris McDaniel of the House race
6. Katherine Tate - The "entertaining" candidate that doesn't have a chance

bill said...

1:48, AFP didn't run a poll after the debate. The only one I saw was the one that a group called Chalking on Campus for Trump put out, and yes, they left the e off the end of Katherine Tate's first name. AFP had nothing to do with it, and hasn't endorsed anyone. I'm not sure how you determined who their favorite is. Enlighten me, please.

As for the rest of your comment, which was directed at me, I don't much care who you like. I simply stated that AFP doesn't endorse primary candidates. But since you volunteered the information, I have a question: If Sally Doty isn't your favorite, who is? It doesn't sound like you care for any of them.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
