McDaniel issues statement. Calls Cochran (Updated)

Update: McDaniel campaign issued a second statement in response to a Clarion-Ledger story. It is posted below.

The Chris McDaniel campaign issued this statement:

McDaniel Issues Statement on Clayton Kelly Arrest
Laurel, MS - Republican Chris McDaniel today issued a statement on the arrest of Clayton Kelly, of Pearl, MS, for illegally obtaining a video of a vulnerable adult resident at St. Catherine's Village in Madison, MS.

"I've reached out to Senator Cochran directly to express my abhorrence for the reprehensible actions of this individual. This criminal act is deeply offensive and my team and I categorically reject such appalling behavior. My thoughts and prayers are with Senator Cochran and his family," McDaniel said. "Politics is about the exchange of ideas and this type of action has no place in politics whatsoever and will not be tolerated."

The campaign has no relationship with Mr. Clayton Kelly in either a volunteer or official capacity.

Second statement:

Laurel, MS - Noel Fritch, spokesman for the Chris McDaniel campaign, issued the following statement:

"The McDaniel campaign found out about the break in when a local political blog posted about it at 11:40 p.m. last night. Senator McDaniel has denounced the break-in and called Senator Cochran to extend his condolences. It is unconscionable for the Cochran campaign and the liberal media to use the act of a sick individual to lob despicable accusations.”

The statement is a response to this Clarion-Ledger story that appeared around noon today.

So, why did Clayton Kelly think this action would be appropriate, or sanctioned by the candidate? Why does the candidate attract followers like this?

The push-poll calls I've been getting this week, full of lies and distortion about Cochran's record, just reek of desperation.

So this Kelly person was trying to take a picture of Mrs. Cochran? Thad is going to beat McDaniel convincingly, and I for one am glad. McDaniel's Tea Party yapping is getting old.

Anonymous said...

OH PUhlease he did not do it however someone prob paid this dude to do it After all mr McDaniel campaign was all about Thads assistant traveling for free. I do this all the time for my boss

McDaniel has campaigned as a slimy, do/say anything candidate. Kelly is the type of supporter drawn to McDaniel, thinking he would expose a motive for Mr. Cochran to have another female interest. McDaniel started, and is responsible, for the entire incident. I've already voted absentee and never even considered the little tin-horned pretext.

McDaniel is a great guy. I'm sure that on June 4th, he'll be glad to get rid of the baggage he's collected in the last few months, regardless of the outcome.

This will all be settled at the end of the Federal Investigation. Look for the US Capitol Police, Senate Seargent at Arms, FBI, and United States Attorney's Office to take the lead here. Criminal acts committed against sitting members of Congress and the US Senate, and their family members, will fall under their jurisdiction.

@12:11 PM ..Maybe the "Tea Party yapping" is getting old to you but the 14 TRILLION F****** dollar national debt is getting way old to me. It really is time for a change not matter how many diversions and distractions that you thad trolls can come up with.

I really hate when the nuts come out on both sides of any campaign but you can't blame McDaniel's for this incident any more than you can blame Cochran for the ricen guy up in Tupelo. You can't help what some of your crazy followers do.
On a brighter note, I was so excited to see all of the McDaniel and Pilazzo signs in the yards when I rode to the Hattiesburg,Petal area this week. I think we stand a strong chance of getting ourselves some real change in Mississippi.

C Kelly needs to work the farm at Parchman OR somewhere else for 20-30 years for this! Its just sick- hes not fit to live in our society.

Anonymous said...

It would come as no surprise if one of Thad's supporters had put that idiot up to doing it to try to discredit Chris McDaniel. I know Chris and he would never condone such an act.

Anonymous said...

I don't think anyone still "works the farm" anymore. It's a shame. They have cable TV and we spend more on these defendants than we do on our or school children.

Gotta love the indignation of Haley's groupies who uttered not a peep when he went off the pardoning deep end.

At a minimum it looks like Kelly is facing a year in jail

Knowing Chris, I don't believe that he sanctioned this. I'm neutral as to whether his campaign staff did. However, it isn't surprising to me. Neither Chris, nor this Mr. Kelly seem to operate in the real world. Granted, Chris' remove from reality is more abdication of legislative responsibility and maturity. However, his grandstanding leads to unhinged supporters such as this fellow taking that extra step to "preserve liberty". Think about that: in order to "restore America's liberty", he violated Mrs. Cochran's.

Anonymous said...

@9:28 The statute you posted says "not to exceed." Your "at a minimum" comment is wrong. Do you work near Renaissance?

This tea-bagging nonsense has got to stop. If these troglodytes had an ounce of intelligence they would realize that democratically run governments require discourse and compromise. In this country of 314 million people and a world population 7 billion people of which about 1/3 are Christians and about 17% are Caucasian the unyielding, condescending bulls$!+ the tea party espouses is not going to be heard not only because the content of the message is naive and uninformed but the caustic communication style is like fingernails on a chalkboard for most Americans. Get over yourselves. Thad is an unyielding advocate for Mississippi and he will prevail.

Anonymous said...

Ralph Lord should be in the Madison county jail for exploiting a 90 yr. old lady out of $230, 000.00.

Anonymous said...

I will be glad when all this mess is over. I was respectful of McDaniel but felt Thad would win. Then all the establishment republicans started chiming in. And they wanted to really put McDaniel in his place - they seemed concerned - what did they have to lose? All the while Thad stayed in Washington and had a "play my violin" attitude while his handlers slung mud. If Thad left the Senate would we really lose as Mississippi? It seems that is played over and over and as an example we didn't lose anything when Trent Lott left but some corrupt politics. Wake up Mississippi. We have stayed at the bottom the whole tenure of Thad. Lets not fall for the shenanigans and continue to be held hostage by the establishment.

Anonymous said...

I don't know Mr. McDaniel, but his push/poll calls are indeed insulting to the intelligence of voters .
If those questions are the only things he can find to bash Cochran, Thad must be a saint.
It's bad when even the hired pollster knows how awful the questions are. I had him laughing.
" Let's see, yes I agree Cochran should have raised the debt ceiling 20 times rather than shut down government. And, didn't you say he'd served twice as many years as that? Do you think I'm stupid or is your candidate stupid?"

Anonymous said...

I am now voting for Chris McDaniel. The past 2 decades of Lott, Barbour and Cochran have now permanently driven me from the Republican party. It is not about any of the values that I hold dear, but neither is the Democratic party. Haley Barbour is a bad joke we Mississippians played on ourselves; the sooner this machine is out of our political process the better. And that would also include the Alinskyites on the other side.

Even though Joe Nosef is a really nice guy, the wild dogs he is fronting need to go.

"The truth will out...."

"That narrative has shown up in the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, the state’s biggest paper, and in leading left-wing attack sites here and here, as well the JACKSON JAMBALAYA, A SITE THAT HAS A CLOSE WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH THE COCHRAN CAMPAIGN."

McDaniel backers have been talking for six months about this "bombshell" issue of Cochran having a mistress. They waited until they thought it was the opportune time and then they blew it up in their own face. No doubt McDaniel was behind the leak of the original story but hopefully this latest part was just one of his nutty followers trying to impress the boss. Maybe there was a chief-of-staff job up for grabs! Not any more!

I wish someone would prove to me that Cochran has a mistress in the truest sense of the word. If he's delivering the bone at his mature age, I'll go door to door for him and will vote for him twice!

Anonymous said...

The tea partys "Vote for anyone else but the establishment" is stupidity. That how we go Obama. If they came up with a better candidate I would vote for him/her but they haven't in this race. All that McDaniels has done in my mind was tell me negative things about Cochran. I do not remember one ad telling me who he is,what he has done and what he wants to do expect remove Cochran. Tea Party better bring good canidates to the plate if they plan to win.

Anonymous said...

Time line looks bad for McDaniels campaign. If I read the articles correctly they knew about this guy several weeks ago. McDaniels campaign starts running ads about Cochrans assistant a week or so ago. Sounds like they were working on the same story. I bet there is a concetion between the two parties.

Anonymous said...

Thank you Tea Party. You self appointed yourselves and now you are out the door. Good riddance. It's scary how a couple of dozen nobody's can get the level of recognition that you did. The party is over for you. HAD ENOUGH AlREADY.

The back story here is who at the facility allowed entrance. You don't just drive through a secure gated fence, walk into a secure facility and into another secure hallway and past the nurses station without some serious inside assistance. Maybe he was wearing a nun's habit.

RINOs can't win elections without the votes of conservatives who are sick and tired of their hardcore addiction to debt fueled spending. I'll vote for a Democrat who I know wants to screw me over versus a RINO who pretends otherwise but then stabs me in the back after election day.

Hear us loud and clear Haley Barbour. Not compromising anymore. If it takes voting for Democrats to teach you and your cult a lesson then that is what will happen.

1:02 (worth a scroll up) is a friggin' nut case. 4:04 is a Cack-run water toter.

Nobody in their right mind thinks Thadeus or his friend-girl had anything to do with this. But, nobody in his right mind thinks McDaniel did either. Take a minute and recall the Rankin County nutcases who have been involved to one degree or another in political campaigns over the years. Some are pissants and some are mouth breathers. All are candidates for Whitfield.

Anonymous said...

But if McDaniels' camp knew about this on April 26, which they now admit they did and did nothing then, they are as guilty as the guy that did it. Since the FBI is getting involved, maybe we will know how many in the McDaniels' camp not only knew about it but also enabled it to happen.

Troll Spotter said...

5:14, are you penning a new novel or do you have any evidence to back up your ridiculous assertions. There is no evidence the McDaniel campaign knew a damned thing before the conversation here on JJ leaned in that direction. There is even less evidence they 'knew about it but enabled it to happen'. You're throwing around nutty assertions with NOTHING to back them up. Troll Alert.

Hattiesburg Patriot, your name gives you away. Tea Party nuts have been hinting for 6 months that McDaniel would expose Thad's mistress. This just shows the sort of folks you "patriots" attract. Keep making excuses, I'm sure when Chris loses we'll hear all the conspiracy theories. But it's as simple as "bush league".

8:29, you don't think its relevant to know if a Senator has a mistress, more so if the mistress is on the public payroll? Bring it on if there is evidence. I want to know about that.

Anonymous said...

It may be relevant, but not as relevant as a conspiracy that involves breaking and entering and victimizing a helpless elderly person. Only about 12 idiots in the state think otherwise.

Sounds like Keith Plunkett is doing it again!

The only people who are screaming that this has anything to do with either candidate are simply a paid maggot for that campaign.

If this has any influence on your vote, for either candidate, then you were absolutely blind before this happened.

Vote for/against whichever candidate who will represent you.

If you're happy with DC, vote Cochran. If you're not happy with DC, vote McDaniel.

Its pretty simple once you wipe away all the bullshit that's been spewed in this campaign.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
