Several politicians whose names were listed on a fund-raising invitation for Senator Will Longwitz told JJ their names were placed on the list without their permission. The fund-raiser was held last night at the home of Kelly Williams.
The invitation states "Special Guests" are "Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, Representative Bill Denny, Councilman Quentin Whitwell, Chairman Joe Nosef, Former Sen. Walter Michel". It then lists "Chairs", "Sponsors", and "Friends".
Representative Denny angrily told JJ "I had no idea whatsoever my name was on there. If he had called me to ask me I would have declined. I feel I have no business to be in someone else's fund-raiser." Mr. Denny said he found out his name was on the invitation after it was mailed. He said Senator Longwitz called him and said "I just thought it was a courtesy." Mr. Denny said he told the Senator he planned on calling him that afternoon and said "Will, I know you are an educated man and that just sounds dumb. Will, don't you ever, every put my name on something again without my permission."
Mr. Michel said "Will nor anyone ever contacted me and asked me for permission to put my name on the invitation. I have not even received a copy of the invitation to the event. Its too late now to take my name off since he already sent them."
Senator Will Longwitz responded: "I can't believe anyone would have a problem with being honored on an invitation. This is not an election year. I'm not looking to roll up endorsements. This is just a mid-term event focusing on Northeast Jackson and honor the people who live in Northeast Jackson. Walter Michel served for many years as did Bill Denny and they deserve to be honored. It should be pointed out Mississippi Republican Party Chairman Joe Nosef introduced Senator Longwitz at the fund-raiser. Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann attended as well. Mr. Whitwell did not appear.
Such is the political scene in Republican Jackson. ;-)

From the list of PACs in the right hand column it is clear that Longwitz is not an independent voice of the voters. NE Jackson is only his cash cow.

Nosef introduced Longwitz and said he belonged in the Senate. Nosef lives in the district. Delbert was there. He lives in the neighborhood too. What is Denny & Walter's problem again?

Leaving aside whether you like or dislike Longwitz, his comments would lead one to believe that he doesnt know to ASK before using another person's name on a political fundraiser list. How can ANYONE be so dense? I also think some of the PACs were put on there w/o permission. RULE ONE: always ASK FIRST before using someone else's name.

As you know William cannot stay away from a camera or a reporter. Last year he harassed WAPT reporters so much they had to literally hide from him. They would try to find anyone they could, other than William, to answer a question.
Sounds like the Stacy Pickering fundraiser that he had at Sal & Mookies. They listed a local prominent Republican as a sponsor. Not only was he not a sponsor, he didn't even get an invitation to the fundraiser. How about them apples! Wonder if the same person put on this fundraiser for Will?

The invitation says special guests as if they are going to be present, it does not say honored guests...so the honor statement by Will does not fly...really do you think folks are going to fall for that. It is totally false advertisement for Mr. Longwitz .. That says it all to me. You just lost my vote and my family's vote... You lied in print and owe them an apology.

Didnt Longwitz have a similar incident where he claimed an endoursement from Thad Cochran by sending out a mailer from a person signed Thad, but it wasnt Senator Cochran?? This guy is one slick operator.

The deal with this that is the major point is that Longwitz listed Walter Michel b/c he is worried Walter might run against him. If Walter ran Will would say well how could he run against me when he supported me at this fundraiser in 2013.

Bill Denny is struggling for relevance here. Will had plenty of names on his host list. He didn't need to honor Bill and Walter, but he did. Maybe he was offering an olive branch since he knows they supported Charles Barbour in the election? Say what you will, I know Charles, and I'm grateful Will won. He has done a great job.

Stacey Pickering is Coastal toast. He fumbled his career at Joe Cloyd's Million Dollar Mansion while Josh Gregory watched their next Gov candidate that would have kept them in the Consulting money crash and burn thanks to some very poor decisions made by these two block heads. They will move on because Pickering cannot be raised from the political depth he now sits at.Time for him to return to the Free State of Jones and become a revival preacher with a good tent.

Longwitz was certainly better than Charles Barbour. However, with the Thad thing and now this, as well as his spotty record as a Senator as well as his previous loss to Ratcliff in a judge's race he should have won, one has to wonder how smart Will is (or isn't).
The bottom line is that if he is the candidate running who lives in Madison Cty, he will probably win reelection regardless. Those Madison Cty folks seem to really want their own Senator.

After reading all of this you have to wonder about the nerve it takes to add names to a fundraiser invite without permission of the owner of that name.Longwitz must be getting advice from Frontier, Josh Gregory and the new guy in that group, Joe Cloyd who did some very dumb things for Stacey Pickering down on the Gulf Coast a few weeks back. I believe the mindset of a lot of these young Republicans is to do what ever they want and when called out they say "so what". They have been getting away with it for too long.

These campaign tactics didn't work the first time, and they won't work this time. Whoever they're putting up against Longwitz is doubling down on the negative campaigning (very early), and I suspect it is because they don't have a record they can run on that is worth a damn.

Wow KF, this is a great thread and all the comments are point on. People around the Capitol know Longwitz (everyone calls him Longshanks behind his back) has no credibility. Reminds me of John Edwards, consumed with himself. Beating Charles was easy, holding the seat won't be. Those of you hitting on the real problem is this Frontier/Josh Gregory/Pickering trainwreck. The R's won the state fair and square and will lose it if they let these clowns keep calling shots. Longwitz isn't even on the radar screen. These others are.

9:50 What happened on the Coast pertains to Josh Gregory's partner being the host of a fund raiser at his beach front home for Ms.State Auditor Stacey Pickering who is currently investigating wrong doing at the Ms.DMR. A conflict exists because Josh Gregory and his partner Joe "Mystery Man" Cloyd have a suspect contract for work at this same agency. This whole deal smells bad and the only reason these turds have a contract is not for what they know but who they know. The fundraiser was a bust with few attending and had very negative press along with protestors at Cloyds home. Made Stacey Pickering look like a damn fool for being there.

9:06 You could be right about Gregory and Cloyd but I think it is more of the big egos can do no wrong syndrome. There is some serious bad blood between Bryant's people and the Tater Tots. I am hearing the Philistine army soldiers are pushing hard to get Lynn Fitch to run against Tate in the next round. George Malvaney, who has been the invisible man lately, has been working on her with other money blunderers I am told. A big bruhaha is in the making between MHPs Santacruz and Tate as we speak. Santacruz plans to try to get his money elsewhere when he is told no to the massive budget increase he has asked for in all the wrong ways. Can you say discretionary funds the Gov may control? You know Frontier is not trying to be neutral in this because they favor Fitch and have had some positive $ experiences with her if you know what I mean. Will be fun to watch as it all unfolds. Tate is fully aware of the groundwork being laid by his political enemies and will counter with his own form of punishment call budget cutting.

Sounds like state wide politics at work to me. Only thing mentioned from the Coast was Pickering's fundraiser. Every bit of this is more about Jackson in the end than the Coast. Hard to disagree with that. I for one love the mix you have had lately. How about that Mayor's election in Hburg,is that too far south? I have learned more about the state and Jackson in particular on JJ than anywhere else. Please keep it all rolling KF.

I've posted about the coast quite a few times.
I was having a boring afternoon so I sat down at my computer and went to my normal stops. Here at JJ I decided to read all of the posts on this topic and notice KF getting a little perturbed with people going off topic. I looked again to see where it began and discovered some went in another direction at the mention of one name, Josh Gregory with Frontier. He appears to be a real lightning rod but does he work with or advise Longwitz? That is the final question I have.
