Jackson Ward 7 Councilwoman Virgi Lindsey announced she will not run for re-election this year after serving two terms on the City Council.
Ward 7 resident Corinthian Sanders announced on Facebook he will seek Mrs. Lindsey's seat:
I am Corinthian Sanders—husband to the remarkable Mortisha Sanders, and father to an amazing young boy who carries my name and reminds me daily of the innocence and hope we must nurture for the next generation. I am a preacher, an industry professional, a small business owner, and, above all else, a believer and servant of Christ Jesus. My faith is the foundation of my life and the guiding force behind every decision I make. I am also a son of Jackson, Mississippi, rooted in this city for seven generations. When I first considered stepping into public service, initially I intended to run for Mayor of Jackson for a second time. However, after much-needed conversations with residents, stakeholders, and advisors, and an in-depth study of how our city government operates—or, in many cases, struggles to operate—it became clear to me that my efforts would be most impactful on the City Council. The real opportunity to influence meaningful, legislative change lies within the council, where policies are crafted, budgets are approved, and the foundation of our city’s future is shaped.I am running to represent Ward 7 on the Jackson City Council where I've called Belhaven and Downtown Jackson home for a decade now. I believe this role offers the best platform to advocate for the needs of our residents and stakeholders and to work collaboratively to address the systemic challenges that have long plagued our city. After much prayerful reflection, heartfelt conversations with my family, and listening to the concerns of my neighbors, I’ve decided to focus my efforts on serving our city at the council level. I believe real change starts in our neighborhoods, and it’s time to ensure Ward 7 has a strong, decisive, and compassionate voice advocating for its unique needs. My political journey has been one of growth and understanding. I’ve made the decision to transition from the Mississippi Republican Party and proudly embrace my role as a grassroots Democrat who is unapologetically conservative. This decision is rooted in my commitment to the people of Jackson and my belief that the needs of our city demand leaders who prioritize progress over partisanship.Let me be clear: I am not a progressive, nor am I a socialist. I am a conservative, grounded in my faith and devoted to values that uphold family, responsibility, and moral integrity. There are national issues where I disagree with the Democratic National Committee, but I will not allow those differences to deter my call to servant leadership.Ward 7 deserves representation that puts its residents first. From improving infrastructure to addressing public safety, creating economic opportunities, and revitalizing our neighborhoods, my campaign is built on the foundation of putting Jacksonians—and specifically, Ward 7—at the center of every decision. As your city council representative, I will bring the same dedication, transparency, and accountability that I have demonstrated throughout my career. I will fight to ensure that Ward 7 receives its fair share of resources, attention, and support to thrive as a vibrant part of our city.I am running to give Ward 7 a voice that echoes the concerns and aspirations of its people. I am running to ensure that our families, businesses, and communities are empowered to succeed. I am running because I believe in Jackson, I believe in our potential, and I believe that together, we can create a brighter future for everyone who calls this city home.Thank you for your faith in me, your support, and your prayers. Together, we will put Jackson First-Ward by Ward. God bless you all, and may God bless Jackson, Mississippi.
Let the games begin.
Kingfish note: Dear arts community, if he gets elected, he will probably be your best friend on the City Council. Mr. Sanders is a strong supporter of arts and culture in Jackson.
Some of his earlier Facebook posts such as this one won't endear him to the social justice crowd:
(October 19) Over 750 murders and tens of thousands of other violent and property crimes have taken place under MayMayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba seven-year reign, and that’s just what we know. For the past four years, he’s ordered the Jackson Police Department to stop publishing crime statistics, plunging the city into silence and uncertainty. Even now, the unreliable data points to either deliberate deception or utter incompetence.Jackson, how many more lives will be stolen, how many more murders, other violent assaults, burglaries, and arsons will we endure before we hold Chokwe and the local Democratic leadership accountable? Their failure to lead and enforce law and order is nothing short of a disgrace. This isn’t just incompetence—it’s a betrayal of the people they’ve sworn to serve.

Great news!!!
Sugar Baby abandons Sugar Daddy as the walls close in on SD.
And if elected, he will sit upon the Corinthian leather seat.
Now one of her nay sayers can run. Doubt it, easier to just sit behind a keyboard.
For mayor or city council I don’t care if you’re republican or democrat. I want someone who is competent, hard working and not corrupt. I’m not a fan of Sanders lumping all local democrats in with the mayor. Lumumba is a special case of incompetence and corruption that dwarfs anything we’ve seen and anyone else on the political playing field. Of course there are others who are incompetent; others who are corrupt. But no one has done more damage to the city and its brand than Lumumba. I don’t know that anyone deserves to be lumped in with him other than his cronies who he eats lunch with.
As a Ward 7 resident, he has my vote!!
Great news. Only, I cannot vote for a Democrat. Even one who professes to differ with other Democrats. I intensely dislike Republicans but feel I have no choice but to vote Republican after four years of the senile old beach bum and his party in Washington, D.C. Even on the state and local levels.
When Sanders demands an investigation into the looting of the GJAC then I'll believe you Kingfish that he gives a damn about the arts.
A Republican turned Democrat. A "conservative Democrat". Does that even happen in the real world? A "Dino"?
Dino Sanders?
"Everybody votes for somebody sometimes..."
Awesome! Maybe we can get a new council person who will not help an incompetent Mayor push through anything he/she wants like she did with Chokwe and Tony.
The writing was on the wall. Virgi Lindsey was going to lose. At least she can read. She didn't want the voters to tell her that she's been fired. Her votes rubber stamping the Lumumba agenda have been outrageous.
You won't be missed Virgi.
As an independent I’m unsure about Sanders political standing. Not sure what a current conservative democrat is other than someone switching from republican to best have a chance in a highly democrat ward to be elected. But Vergi not running for re-election is a plus.
When the mayor over rides everything you do while he is being bribed…this job is pretty useless. Cudos to anyone who wishes to play in these waters and best of luck. Can you imagine voluntarily sitting with these idiots for no money and trying to explain math to them? That’s insane
Mortisha? Is she a member of the Addams family?
"I intensely dislike Republicans but feel I have no choice but to vote Republican"
Voting one's feelings is exactly what the election industry strives to achieve. Usually that feeling is anger, and which ever campaign hits that button the hardest gets the votes.
We voters have to get wise to these tactics and refuse to buy into them.
If Virgi leaves who is going to carry Chowke's water?
@10:53 I think you nailed it as far as the rationale for switching from Rep to Dem party. Unfortunately a lot of people in this ward will only vote for someone with a D behind their name regardless of their platform. Unfortunately, there are also some who feel the exact opposite, but I think this is a smart move on his part. Only time will tell! I do believe his messaging is genuine and think he would be a great representative for our ward.
But no one has done more damage to the city and its brand than Lumumba .
True statement. It will take decades to overcome the Lumumba stench.
He is at least a practical man. That's good. He understands that a republican cannot win so why commit political suicide. His candidacy is a step in the right direction for Jackson and represents a chance for substantive change, not just a new face on the same ole rotten program.
Corinthian Sanders is a career politician wannabe
Mr. Sanders isn't a property owner. Secretary of State's business records show some businesses that have dissolved. The most recent address on those filings was the apartment complex on the corner of Jefferson and Poplar that used to be called Jefferson Place. It appears that the happy Sanders family recently moved to that four-plex on High Street next to Carter Jewelers.
glad she's gone
Uh oh…a”preacher”
Corinthian and Morticia? Tell me this ain't another soap opera?
@2:41, could be worse. He could be a property tax scammer like Melvin.
And your point...he has the same right as anyone else to run for office in the community his family chooses to live in as long as he qualifies for the office he is seeking according to the Mississippi Constitution he has satisfied all of the requirements that matters...last time I checked those renters pay much more in rent than so called property owners (mostly renters of the mortgage company who actually own the rights of the real property). The real question is what have you done? Why won't you run for office or at least articulate a plan against Mr. Sanders? Grow up
Some one should do something-last week I was ridding along state street, no police presence except of course capital police’s x2/ left doctors Office, went along I 55 north 3 of JPD writing speeding tickets - money maker vs public safety?
What a loss for her ward. She is sharp as a marble.
