The Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued the following statement.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department that occurred on March 1st, 2024, on Poplar Springs Drive in Meridian, Mississippi.
A deputy with the sheriff’s department was attempting to initiate a traffic stop on an alleged drunk driver. A passenger was asked to exit the vehicle when he discharged a weapon at the deputy striking him with non-fatal injuries. The deputy then discharged his weapon, striking the subject with fatal injuries. The driver was arrested with no injuries or further incident. This information is preliminary and subject to change.
MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.

I’ll bet that “drunk driver” sobered up pretty quickly!!!
Another lesson for training. Follow protocol when approaching a vehicle ahd commanding someone to exit the vehicle. Always assume he is armed and dangerous.
Praying for the officers' recovery.
Thankful there will be no more problems from the shooter, other than the normal civil suit and complaints about the police.
The shooter has an expedited hearing with the Judge.
