The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 2,168 cases of Wuhan virus and 28 deaths today. However, 27 of the deaths took place between November 26 and December 2. The total number of cases is 159,036. The virus has caused 3,879 deaths. Nursing home deaths comprise 40% of overall Covid-19 deaths in Mississippi. There are 128,746 recoveries.
Yesterday was the worst day ever for the Covid-19 fight in Mississippi. MSDH reported 2,457 new cases yesterday. Hospitalizations surged to record highs. There are no available ICU beds in Central Mississippi although the ICU patients have not approached the level seen this summer. The charts posted below are from yesterday's report.
UMC's Dr. Louann Woodward lamented the dismal state of Covid-19 affairs on Twitter yesterday:
As of 6:46 am today, UMMC’s bed status is -31 beds, which means that 31 people are admitted but waiting for a bed to become available. Who will be #32 or #33 or #34?
The number of hospitalized COVID patients in MS is at a new high. Our resources (like beds and nurses) ARE finite.
New daily cases have now exceeded 2,000, which has literally been my nightmare.

The health department reported 2,168 new cases today. Not sure where you're getting the 1,845 number.
Hmmmm Worldometer and WLBT report 2168 new cases
Biden will have to rescue us, the peak will not come until late January. The only way to stop it before then is to adjust our lifestyle.
Nothingburger, fake news, hoax, over by Easter, gone after Election Day, etc.
someone ate a bad egg roll from China.
and yet I still do not personally know a SOUL that has died from this dread condition without comorbidities.
I don't suppose we can finally recognize this is much worse than the flu, it is spreading rapidly because people are not taking simple steps to isolate as much as possible and wear masks, and admit that COVID is putting a strain on our medical system.
We are starting to see the results of the Thanksgiving surge. Where I work we have staff that go into the homes of people who are at a high risk of COVID complications because of age and infirmity. 10% of them have already notified us they had close contact during the holiday with a person outside of their immediate family that tested positive for COVID and are having to quarantine. These are supposed to be caring, educated individuals; and yet they are putting the lives of others at risk by attending extended gatherings.
People are selfish idiots, particularly when we are just a few months away from widespread vaccinations that have been shown to be very effective. I wish Tater was right and we could depend on people to be responsible, but obviously we can't. Time for much more aggressive action.
I notice no comments. Has it finally gotten through that this isn't a hoax and "nothing"?
Wait I thought this was all going to go away after the election?
At what point do we shut things down for a couple weeks to get this somewhat under control?
One thing about better testing is that there are many fewer "suspected cases." If a suspected case must be treated like an actual case by HC workers, then a true comparison should be both actual and suspected cases added together. When that is done, the current numbers are not as bad as the summers. That also explains why ICU and can't numbers are not as high.
Unfortunately, the trend appears that we are headed that way.
Most folks won't be able to get vaccinated until Spring or summer. Damn selfish fools and the "FreeDumb" brigade have driven deaths up to 2800 a day. Looks like Christmas week will be having 20,000 dead.
Now, contrast this with WWII, where we had about 270 service deaths a day on average, in all theaters, from all causes, including accidents, disease, undetected illness, or, just falling drunk off a ladder. Ten times worse for excess death, including every single battle our men fought.
And, then, we asked folks to sacrifice a little to save a lot.
Now, it's a BFD to get Bubba to wear a simple mask, much less not fall down drunk partying all the time.
Ashamed of Americans who "say" they are "patriots" but are the opposite.
Got a friend who went in the other night to ER for Covid. Breathing difficulties and O2 dropped. On a vent, in the ER, NO ROOM to be found.
No room at the Inn. No room at the ICU. Good Lord, we can do better.
It is very hard to believe anything we are told about covid.
We have been lied to so much from the start that we do not know what is true and what is bullshit.
Now we see where the people who were supposed to be protecting us from such diseases are the ones who caused much of the spread.
It was spread across the U.S. before we were even told it existed.
The same people who are today telling us we should shut down everything are the same people who hid it for as long as they could.
People would be much more likely to go along with things if they were told the truth. The more they are lied to the less they listen.
Are hospitals and healthcare locations still getting money from the govt for treating COVID cases? Would be nice if there was a Shad White type person going back and verifying all these cases.

The above is what should be concerning for people instead of the focus on death rates, poor health and survivability. Hospitals are clogged with the normal things they see plus covid patients - meaning they don't have a place for you when you have a heart attack, car accident or simply choke on your Copenhagen. When you cant buy toilet paper you just use something else. When you have nowhere to go for emergency medical care you likely die. I guess if you classify a heart attack as a comorbidity, then its ok if you die in a hallway.
The more infected (Positive test with or without symptoms) the better. More folks get antibodies and less get sick.
Lite bathroom reading. But I'm sure our lettered and published author/experts will disagree: https://www.webmd.com/lung/covid-recovery-overview#1
"Got a friend who went in the other night to ER for Covid. Breathing difficulties and O2 dropped. On a vent, in the ER, NO ROOM to be found." Technically he is in an ICU setting.
More beds filled means more mullah. There's Gold in thar hills.
I think we now have enough data to no longer need to compare C-19 to other major historical events in order to put it in context. That includes World War II.
I wish Tater Tot had balls. Even just one. He could be a leader, but the elf doesn’t know how to lead.
My daughter is a nurse. Her hospital is full and she has to work directly with COVID patients. She has had to watch a coworker die! They are out of ventilators and space. Anyone that thinks this is a hoax is an idiot.
People it is up to us because there isn’t any leadership anywhere.
@3:38 PM - Honest question...Please tell us what Gov. Tate should be doing that he isn't doing. I sure would like to know.
How many Amendments in the Bill of Rights should he violate? Is there an exception for viruses in the Bill of Rights that our founding fathers included that I overlooked?
Enquiring minds really do want to know. Thank you.
4:20 As long as the directives are religiously neutral and applicable to everyone equally then there is no violation of the Bill of Rights.
"the right of free exercise does not relieve an individual of the obligation to comply with a "valid and neutral law of general applicability on the ground that the law proscribes (or prescribes) conduct that his religion prescribes (or proscribes)"
There is nothing in the Constitution that would prevent a state or local government from making restrictive orders for general protection as long as due process was followed.
@4:20 PM - State-wide face mask mandate that is enforced would be a good start. I agree that it will not stop the virus but it will definitely slow down the spread of the virus, just like it did before, until the vaccine arrives.
At a recent news conference, a question that was asked of the good governor went something like "If you don't agree with the leading Mississippi medical officials (Reeves called them "so-called experts") who are calling for a state-wide face mask mandate, who are the medical experts who say we don't need a state-wide face mask mandate that you agree with?" Reeves said something like "I make that decision."
4:20, the 3rd Amendment, which you'll have to look up, was drafted concerning the forced quartering of sick troops at a time when George Washington rightfully described smallpox as being mightier than any enemy army's swords. That's just ONE Amendment you cannot even recite.
At the time, the prevalence of smallpox (from a virus, Cletus) during the early years of the American War for Independence posed a very real danger to the success of the Revolution. That disease nearly crippled American efforts in the campaigns of 1775 and 1776.
Smallpox was a major factor during the American invasion of Canada and the siege of Boston. Rumors over the British use of biological warfare, controversy over inoculation, and attempts to control the spread of smallpox all impeded the progress of the war. (INOCULATION a controversy??? Oh, my, where did we hear this recently???)
This frightening disease affected the actions of the Revolutionary army and its generals, reduced the American ability to attract and hold recruits, and influenced the controversial development of preventive medical policies.
So, tell us of the many Constitutional rights listing cars, airplanes, masks, AR 15s, or other things since they "missed" viruses? (not really, but, Bubba is a literal sort of knuckle dragger).
Tell me again about your Imaginary "RIGHT" to spread disease to others? Which would go to their private home and affect their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness???
Where's the right to possess and spread Covid??? The Secret 28th??? Inquiring minds want to know.
There are many more passages in the Constitution and law debunking the FreeDumb School of Imaginary Law's theories.
Salus populi suprema lex esto
Tot could be sure our state has the supplies it needs. From my position I know he has not. I don’t want any bodies rights violated, however I do not wish to bury anymore loved ones. State mandated masks are a preventative along with social distancing. He could do this. Those that didn’t want to comply should stay home. Being wispy washy is not a way to lead. Just follow the advice of qualified experts.
No my question is what exactly has he done since taking office?
@5:30, don’t worry, Mississippi has the supplies it needs, trust me, I’ve seen the waste. If YOU are scared of covid , stay the fuck away when you see me in a store
These dumb ass medical/elected "leaders" had plenty of time and money to build the pop up hospitals as suggested by Kingfish.

and all other Pro lockdown and masks for everyone crowd:
Please direct me to some example of a state lockdown/mask mandate that has reduced the number of cases/hospitalizations/deaths.
I'll go first - Massachusetts. Statewide mandate on May 1st. Enhanced mandate November 6th. Cases are higher today than when implemented in May.
May 1 order:
https://www.mass.gov/doc/may-1-2020-masks-and-face-coverings/download
Nov 6 order:
https://www.mass.gov/news/mask-up-ma#:~:text=Governor%20Baker%20issued%20an%20Order,ages%20of%202%20and%205.
I have only seen one person NOT wearing a mask in a store in the past three weeks. And it was an old lady. I did not feel the need to yell at her or report her. I just walked past her.
I just don't understand where you people shop that you are encountering so many unmasked folks.
I wear my mask (even though I doubt it does much good) but I would stay home if I was really that scared of this.
I feel like people are just mad and making stuff up to gripe about.
Luckily, I eat right, exercise and take general good care of myself.
If I had a medical condition or comorbidity that I did nothing to create, but made me more susceptible...I would for sure stay home.
And why have hospitals not prepared for this possibility since March?
I just don't understand why folks are mad at the government over a virus?
We should be mad at them for a very long list of things that they first had screw up, but a virus? Is there no personal responsibility anymore?
Looks like a new record today. 2,480 new cases. There were also 23 current deaths and and additional 14 deaths from prior periods. The death-by-date chart shows a steady increase since the end of October. I guess the period of deaths not increasing with the cases/hospitalizations is now over.
This will do nothing but get worse for the next six weeks as people stupidly attend gatherings of family and friends and pass the virus around. I would say "stay safe" but unfortunately there are way too many Mississippians who don't understand contagious diseases and think because they are relatively healthy they have no obligation to protect anybody else. Same type of person who has a few too many drinks and thinks they can make it home safe because of their superior driving skills.
Slow/low exponential growth is still exponential growth you stupid SOBs.
Can't fight the math... can simply try and slow it down.
By Dec 25th our daily numbers will be 2500-3000 and that's the low/medium projection.
