Dental Board Executive Director Resigns

Karen Wilson will resign her position as Interim Executive Director of the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners on September 30.   Ms. Wilson became the Executive Director when the Board fired Executive Director Dianne Howell.   Ms. Howell served as Executive Director since 1994.  Ms. Wilson announced her resignation at the Board meeting on August 31.  She began her career at the agency as an administrative assistant in 1997.

Why government is out of control. Do we REALLY need an Interim Executive Director of the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners ? Do we need a Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners? I mean maybe (assuming they oversee dentists, not techs) more than the Mississippi State Board of Cosmetology... I've dealt with the board over physicians lately and those on it will quickly admit they have literally no impact... but I think they are volunteers (hope so)

Now this is some top rate captivating news. Wonder what’s happening over at the Department of Veteran Affairs— or maybe the State Cosmetology Bureau.

Gov needs to take it over and appoint Marshal Fisher

She simply misunderstood how PERS works. She didn't know it takes four high years at a new salary level....

It’s no bigger than a story about two pre-teen girls fighting.

2 long-time employees gone. Either housecleaning needs to be done or the Board needs to be shuffled.

Even the mightiest reigns of kings must come to an end.

What do you have against veterans? I guess you served?

A couple of recent hires are causing all of these problems. Typical drama queens from what I hear.

This agency investigates complaints against butchers mascarading as dentists. You would be shocked to know the incompetent and crooked dentists wearing lab coats and acting like they know what they are doing all over this state.

The bad part is stopping a poor dentist from practicing is very hard to do. The system is designed to protect them instead of the patient's. Lot's of unneeded work, bogus prescriptions and insurance fraud going on.

I mean A LOT of it going on.

No big deal.. the job has been posted for a few weeks now.

6:32–it’s sorta like anonymous “drama queen” commenters causing all these problems. Committing fraud, issuing bogus analyses, unneeded posts. They masquerade as if they know something and butcher facts—and even the English language. The bad part is stopping this practice is very hard to do. It’s happening all over the state. I mean there’s a lot of it going on. Any ideas?

11:35–what do you have against cosmetologists ? Ever been in space?

@6:32 AM. Sounds like you have inside information on the state dental board and some of the dentists practicing in the state. Unfortunately, as with any profession, there are some people practicing and performing procedures that are in question, and likely some questionable billing practices. Fortunately, there are a lot of honest, ethical and excellent dental professionals who see and do what is best for the patient instead of seeing $ signs on every patient who walks in the door.

Al Gore invented Cosmetology which is causing these hurricanes.

@11:24 PM

The audience was full at the last board meeting so citizens must be concerned about this topic. But am I the only person that was present that heard the President of this Board say that he authorized the terminated Executive Director access to her old office to work? Think he said she was the only one who knew how to do something so he authorized her to come and do it? Odd that she was terminated then asked to do some work. Better yet who is asking for her help with duties? This is whats wrong with people today. Too much control in the hands of one person. Somebody should have known how to do those duties besides the person who had been fired. If you want to see a circus, come to their board meetings. The fights are epic and will have you on the edge of your seat!

2:02. I wonder if “what’s wrong with people today” is the certainty of some that they know “what’s wrong with people today” .

And didn’t this board start advertising weeks ago for a new executive director. Seems odd that the audience would be full because of that topic. Or the humdrum resignation of the place-holding temporary ED.

Just maybe people were present because the board was doing its job on dental licensing issues. Just guessing.

@ 9:26

I do have knowledge of what's going on at that agency.

If I'm so wrong, why the fuck did she resign?

You pissed because someone knows something you don't ?

FO.

4:58. Well...you certainly showed that you are no “drama queen.”

But I’ll play.

Here is why the longtime asst. ED resigned after she was asked to be interim ED: the slightly extra pay was not worth having to actually lead, set an example, manage employees, make hard decisions and generally take responsibility. Besides the board was actively looking for a new replacement ED.

Manages all of six employees.

Here's why this is a story.

She has only a high school education.

Seeking the exec job that pays $90,000 per year.

The dentists asked her to go to school and get degree.

I've never heard of an 'interim anything' resigning.

September 12, 2018 at 10:34 PM is the type of ignorance that has plagued the U.S. for too long now.

This push for higher education for everyone has made people think it's a requirement. A higher education degree means nothing, in reality, in the working world. Professionals should be required to have degrees, but suggesting that an "exec job that pays $90,000 per year" automatically triggers the need for someone with any random college degree is simply stupid.

Anonymous said...

7:25....It's not 'stupid' if the written job description and requirements require a college degree. I've seen thousands of job requirements and ads and most professional jobs do contain such a statement. Requiring that an incumbent/interim obtain a degree can keep the EEOC away from the door if she were to get the job and those with degrees were not advanced to the second interview.

Anonymous said...

I will have to agree wholeheartedly that there are many who don't have a college degree who are more than qualified through experience to do a job. That's where the interview process and the level of experience come into play. This whole jazz of having a piece of paper that says you have a degree is stupid. And that is coming from someone with an advanced degree.

Forget the degree. Mississippi feels that paying the Executive Director of the Dental Board, with a staff of six or so, should pay more than we pay statewide elected officials such as Auditor, Insurance Commissioner, or Treasurer? Of course, our new Ag Commissioner is in the same scale, but he has the advantage of getting to wear a new white hat and learn all about agriculture with his kids as he takes his statewide tour. Granted, he solved his salary problem since he still practices law while drawing his $90k/year while learning what a milo plant is in the delta.

Glad though that the Dental Ex Director got paid plenty while serving in office - I'm sure that kept her plenty honest and therefore wasn't tempted to pad the payroll during her tenure.

What kind of drugs is the governor on to appoint the Hyde woman to fill Cochran's (conveniently empty) seat and appoint that clown from Green Acres to fill the Agriculture spot? Next he'll put a teenager in as State Auditor and lobby for his son-in-law to land a job at the Lottery office.

Please don't tell me the head of the 'Barber Board' is Feel's personal barber!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
