C Spire? Cease fire? C what?

Cellular South is now C Spire? What marketing genius thought of this one? Better yet, perhaps the Creekmeenas should have watched this video first:

If they did watch this video before they made the name change, I hope they realize the video was a joke and not something to be taken seriously.

NOT a fan!

Some ad agency took Meena and the Creekmores for a ride.

This will blow Gallo's mind. He's so used to saying 'Star 222, a free call, if'n you're a Cellular South customer'. They'll have to reprogram Paul down at the Politically affiliated station.

I'm still scratching my head on this one.

I swear, until I saw it in print, I thought they changed it to Cease Fire....

Read in the paper they're introducing a multi-level affinity program. Must have probs w/ customer churn.

Anonymous said...

Its just weird ......

Wow. The new name is awful. Surely they could have come up with something better. Awful. What were they thinking?

I have to agree. Some ad guy sold the powers on this and no one had the guts to disagree. Rebranding could make sence but this, its just strange.

Horrible move in my opinion. I understand they are trying to become non-regionalized, but CSpire???

However, if the rumors are true that they will get the iPhone5 in October (there was no comment given to the question in the CL story), then they will get a ton of customers in Mississippi.

Crazy Conspiracy Theory Time: Did Apple offer them the iPhone with the condition that they would need to "deregionalize" to protect Apple's brand?

But some NYC ad agency, like Y&R or Huge, two that the Creekmeena's like to hear them say how great they are, definitely took them for a ride.

Someone close to them who has their best interests in mind should ask the Creekmores to check the clothes they may not be wearing.

They are going to have more problems than a stupid name once the Obama LightSquared fast-tracking scandal gets fully exposed. Gotta wonder if switch-hitting Chipper's hands are dirty in that mess too considering his now exposed lobbying efforts against the AT&T/T-Mobile merger.

C Spire. C Spire try to be big time. Try Spire try. Fail Spire fail.

This company is hugely successful. I dare say much more successful than all of us internet second guessers. Geez envy runs deep in the class war.

Anonymous said...

Geez your anonymous assumptions have run amok.

No one in their right mind is going to leave them because of a name change, as long as their rates and service stay the same, they'll be okay.

Still doesn't mean that it is not an error in judgment. Now if they start raising rates to pay for everything from signs to letterhead and business cards, then they may lose a few customers.

Like the earlier comment said - if they get the iPhone, they'll get a ton of customers from AT&T. I'll be one of them.

The new name is certainly getting a lot of buzz. That's got to bring smiles somewhere.

It's called "rebranding", you morons. Cellular South is a great company, and it is totally simple minded for one to simply write off a normal corporate move. Cellular South, for better or worse, is a growing company. They have even grown through the recession(s). The rebranding is nothing more than a typical move for a company that has experienced unprecedented growth in a relatively new industry.

Anonymous said...

Odd that a company experiencing unprecedented growth filed a paranoid lawsuit against a competitor to stop a merger. But what the hell do us morons know anyhow?

Same geniuses perhaps who thought Belhaven College should be "Belhaven University."

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Advice too few execs can follow.

Just a thought. If your future plans are to take your services nationwide then having a regional term in your name, "South" is a branding obstacle.

Yes, others have done it i.e. Northwestern Mutual, Mutual of Omaha,etc... but that more than likely wouldn't be the case if the those business weren't started over 100 years ago.

Sign me up for the IPO.

I didn't like the name at first, but I also remember not liking Cingular. We know how that turned out. One thing you can say about CellSouth is that they have never skimped on marketing. They use the same madison ave. firms as the big boys with very polished commercials. (I can spot a Ramey tv ad in the first two seconds)I am guessing C-spire spent a ton of money on the rebrand also. If so, chances are we will all love it in time.

1:40,

Doubt it.

Anderson said...

"Cingular" at least kinda sorta meant something.

"C Spire"? What are we supposed to think of? Inspire? Perspire? Conspire?

That last will be a natural headline whenever someone at the company gets busted for something. As happens to every company at some point.

Anonymous said...

KF, your headline just made my day. Hilarious! Bless you for the laugh.

Well I just looked over at the poll and saw--Its Bush's fault--as an option. You killing me, Dude. That's as good as the twin lakes choice.

Anonymous said...

Call it whatever, but after 5 years with them, I'm gone. I went from having an excellent experience to a really bad one.

I may be unique in that; I don't know, but if I'm not, rebranding won't help.

As long as they keep offering unlimited data at the lowest rates around, continue with the best coverage here in the state (where I spend 95% of my time), and keep selling Android phones, then I don't care if they call it Hitler/Taliban/Satan Wireless -- I'll still be a customer.

Separately, what was your deal at 10:30 Thursday night, KF? Was it liquor, or did somebody kick your pet?

Anonymous said...

Must have been like choosing a new user name. All the good ones were already taken.

Been with CS since 2004 and have been pleased with service until recently.
Beginning in July I have had an increase in dropped calls and big problems with billing. Very frustrating. Hopefully not a sign of the future with this company.

Do not like new name at all.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
