Largest Study Ever Says No Link Between MMR Vaccines and Autism

Here is something for the Know-Nothings in Mississippi: A Danish study of over 657,000 subjects showed no link between vaccines and autism.  The Annals of Internal Medicine reported last week:

The study strongly supports that MMR vaccination does not increase the risk for autism, does not trigger autism in susceptible children, and is not associated with clustering of autism cases after vaccination.

We found no support for the hypothesis of increased risk for autism after MMR vaccination in a nationwide unselected population of Danish children; no support for the hypothesis of MMR vaccination triggering autism in susceptible subgroups characterized by environmental and familial risk factors; and no support for a clustering of autism cases in specific time periods after MMR vaccination.

 The study is the largest one to date that delved into the question of whether MMR vaccines caused autism. There were 657,461 Danish subjects born between 1999 and 2010.*  No thimerosal-containing vaccines were used. Copy of study.

There has been a push in the Mississippi Legislature over the past few years to broaden the exemptions for MMR vaccines. Mississippi schoolchildren must obtain the vaccine before attending school.  One such bill passed the House in 2016 but thankfully died in a Senate Committee.**  Thank you, Tate, and curses to you, Philip Gunn, who stuck it in John Moore's Education Committee instead of Public Health where it belonged.  Representative Sam Mims (R-Common Sense) voted against the bill and probably would have killed it in committee.

Meanwhile, the United States is suffering its worst measles outbreak in decades:

Perhaps JJ should start posting old newspaper stories in Flashback Friday posts to drive the point home.  It probably won't do any good as some children will have to die of measles or one of the other childhood diseases (for which there is a vaccine) before some of these people get the point. Mississippi has the best vaccination law in the country but this being Mississippi, we can't stand success.

** Meet the Know-Nothings of the House of Representatives who voted for the bill.

None of this will convict anti-vaxxers. We need to find the root cause of autism. At least the kids who survive infection will have natural immunity.

Dr. Feelgood said...

The doctor that wrote to initial landmark paper that tied vaccinations to autism was later found to have faked the data that "proved" his case. He finally admitted guilt for perpetrating this cruel hoax and had his medical license permanently revoked.

BUT, just like trying to reason with AOC, Omar, etc., the rabid anti-vaxxers refuse to acknowledge reality. Horrible diseases like polio and smallpox would still be creating nightmares for us and our families if it wasn't for the progress in creating immunity by vaccination..

Our society has gone nuts and all the things we learned the hard way in the past are destined to be relearned all over again...........

There's two groups of people that it just isn't worth arguing with. They won't listen. Pit Bull owners and anti-vaxxers. Life is too short to try to reason with them.

Got to vaccinate your kids. Too much illegal immigration is exposing us to disease that was long ago eradicated in the USA.

Do your research and talk to your doctor. If you dont trust WHO, US/Puerto Rican, Canadian, or European produced vaccines you can pay extra for other souces.

Some of the most trustworthy brands are from Israeli pharmaceutical companies. That's what I chose for my children.

Same with global warming, er, climate change. See you at the end of life on this planet party in 12 years!

It’s ironic that just this morning Captain Bone Spurs was tweeting about the Fake Science. What an ignorant loser you would have to be to believe a word out of that sleazy pig’s mouth.

I am definitely pro-vax, but I do recall seeing an article that it was the "cocktail" that was suspected in some of the autism cases - the mixing of several medicines with a base into one injection. I do think that's worth studying further and looking into giving individual medicines over a period of time rather than in one batch. Also, are these cocktails mixed in the same base? There is a case of a toddler's last chemo treatment being mistakenly mixed with too large of a dose of saline solution, which caused her to go into brain seizures and die.

Serious question... Isnt this a movement that will solve itself?

Would love to know if any of the reps who voted for the bill ever had measles, mumps or chicken pox, or like me, all three. Most are probably too young to have had the experience or perhaps they would understand how awful these diseases can be, especially measles, or mumps in older people. Thank goodness they were not around when polio was common, or smallpox.

@12:52
thimerosal-containing vaccines
You hit the nail on the head and the ignorant pro-vaxxers are clueless about this fact. It isn't all vaccines. Just the ones containing that specific stabilizer, thiomersal aka Merthiolate. It's usage has been reduced in the USA and it is totally absent in all Israeli (Teva) vaccines.

I found this from a discussion by Jared and Ivanka about their choices in vaccines for their children. President Trump is fully aware of the facts regarding this stabilizer.

The leftist morons love spreading disinformation taking ignorant jabs. It would be infuriating if it weren't so cartoonish.

60% of the anti-vaxers think that Reefer can, and will, cure everything from a broken heart to a rusty muffler bearing.

@2:22

I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic or trolling. Hemp Seed is literally a Super Food. But you eat it, not smoke it. Smoking it isn't a cure for anything other than nausea related to chemotherapy or as an alternative to opioid pain relievers.

With a nearly perfect balance of omega 3 to omega 6, plus iron, vitamin E, and all of the essential amino acids, hemp seeds are said to be the most nutritionally complete food source in the world. The seeds may be eaten whole or shelled, raw or toasted, plain or flavored. Seeds can also be pressed for oil, which results in seed cake that can be ground into flour and protein powder. An increasing variety of hemp food products are appearing on store shelves. From seed to oil and cake, it is becoming easy to incorporate hemp into any meal.

Mississippi doesn't have to be last in everything. We should leave that to Alabama.

VAX IS NOT A WORD. Like fingernails on a chalkboard for me.

@4:16
In the 21st century if it gives you search results in google, it's a word.

So how many of you commenters have an austic child?

Once again, follow the money. Here's, as Paul Harvey would say, The Rest of the Story:

6:25,
Not sure what having an autistic child has to do with it. Anecdotal evidence is not actually proof of a causal connection. If autism was casually related to vaccines it really would not be that difficult to tease out. Now if you can demonstrate that children who have been vaccinated have a higher incidence of autism, you might have something worth discussing. But no such evidence seems to exist. Correlation does not equal causation, a point anti-vaxers seem to have a problem understanding. The fact that a child was vaccinated and is later diagnosed with autism does not prove causation of autism by vaccination. Most children with autism have been vaccinated. Most children without autism have been vaccinated. It would be the same as saying my child was vaccinated and did not develop autism, therefore the vaccines must have prevented autism. A dumb thing to say, but no different from saying vaccine causes a child’s autism. The facts are that autism is on the rise, but the evidence strongly indicates no causal relationship to vaccines. But we do know that these childhood diseases can cause serious harm, and can even be life-threatening, to children, including fetuses in the womb.

@2:01, smart thinking to go with the opinion of Jared and Ivanka when it comes to your children’s health. They are truly two of the greatest scientific minds of our times. Their vast research and unparalleled knowledge in this field should not be questioned. I think they may both be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. That is how much faith I have in Jared and Ivanka. We are truly blessed that they have such a pulpit to speak their wisdom to all of us. Long live the Trumptards!

Autism is on the rise solely because of the ever-changing definition of what constitutes autism.

Y’all are a bunch of retards who don’t know anything about neuroscience. Sad.

"Autism is on the rise solely because of the ever-changing definition of what constitutes autism. "

Maybe not "solely", but the federal money for school districts, therapists, etc, involved with treating autistic kids is certainly a factor to consider in its apparently increased prevalence.

As an aside, the first person in the world to be diagnosed with autism is from and currently lives in Forest, MS.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
