Bigger Pie Forum: Republicans no different than Democrats on energy

Amy McCullough writes in Bigger Pie Forum:

In his recent press release U.S. Senator Roger Wicker contradicts himself. He says it's bad for the Democratic Obama administration to give taxpayer dollars to private companies' experimental energy projects, but it's OK when Republicans in Mississippi do the same thing....

"Picking winners and losers" means giving American tax dollars to private, companies for energy experiments, like the solar company Solyndra, which received more than $500 million in federal money before going bankrupt.

Mississippi -- which is run by Republicans -- has been committing quite a lot of its taxpayer dollars to private companies' experimental projects...." Read the rest of the post

Roger Wicker voted for the NDAA. For that reason, I will never support him again.

MAJOR CONGRATS to Kingfish.

In that Republicans seem to be supporting things that aren't going bankrupt, what am I missing here?

BTW; the captchas are getting illegible.

Means you're a robot. Didn't your mama tell you?

I thought Jackson Jambalaya was not for sale. Wait, that's Madison.

"Bigger Pie Forum has purchased distribution rights on Jackson Jambalaya"

Don't know what Bigger Pie Forum is. If JJ becomes BPF, then I guess I'll go somewhere else. I like JJ, hate to see it altered.

So, basically, October 17, 2012 4:07 PM you are clueless as to what the statement means.

Let me make it really easy for you.

Kingfish is getting paid for all the hard work and effort he has put into building the JJ enterprise+brand all these years. Where else do you see the kind of reporting you see here? Surely not at the Fondren Pablum.

BPF pays Kingfish to run a placed excerpt of their content+link back to their franchise because there are so many freaking readers here. Do you get it?

There is no single independent online venue in all of Mississippi with more heft than Jackson Jambalaya.

So you should be happy for Kingfish.

Because the dude kicks ass.

These guys at bigger pie have Alan Lange, whose entire career is based off of subsidies. I think their rightous indignation is laughable.

Anonymous said...

Not just Lange - it consists of the major "board members" of Mississippi's "venture capital fund" - funded with tax dollars and being given away/loaned by these same individuals that are bitching about these other projects.

While I disagree with them trying to tie Wicker's statement about Obama to the Kemper County Plant, but since that is the big bass drum that BPF keeps beating, they are trying to make it up. Problem is - there is no state money in Kemper Plant.

As to the others they name - damn right. Keep the state money out of those projects, and ALL others. And the federal money out of all as well.

But while at it, get Lange, Taggart, et. al. to get out of the venture capital business with my tax dollars as well.

Assuming you referring to New Market Tax Credits. Yes, corporate welfare of the worst kind.

Kingfish said...

I've let you have your fun but that's enough. They purchased an ad. That includes the right to post or distribute content. Don't like it? Oh well. Not my problem.

Second. Some of you are flat out intellectual cowards. You don't comment on the post or its merits. Nope, instead you just blithely attack the board members of BPF. I normally don't allow comments on advertised content but I did this time. You want your comment to appear, address the merits of the post. If not, you're no better than the JFP'ers.

The purpose of lobbyists is to win some kind of benefit and that amounts to picking winners. That is tax policy. Tax credits to lure industry is the same game. Giving government contracts is akin to government picking winners. Our Senators are guilty of lining up all kinds of win-win-lose deals.

Small Pie is beter said...

With Lange, you are talking about New Market Tax Credits - and that is nothing but tax policy. But the others are in the venture capital business with state dollars as board members of the Mississippi Technology Alliance. It just seems totally two-faced to complain about "corporate welfare" from their Bigger Pie Forum, while taking state dollars and investing them into private businesses via the Technology Alliance.

Kemper Plant has been their big complaint - probably responsible for the formation of BPF. But their tie here claiming Wicker is being two faced over Kemper is just totally wrong. They obfuscate the question of Kemper's funding - but if you read what they do say, there is no "state tax dollars" there. Only consumer dollars. So please explain how the complaint about the feds putting money in private businesses has any relationship to Kemper?

Oh no! After the Magnolia Venture Capital fiasco, the legislature did it again?

You've got to be kidding!
Was there zero learning curve?
KF, you should look into the history of these legislative venture capital programs.

OMG. There's not enough regulation in the universe to protect the taxpayer's money. If you essentially eliminate risk in venture capital with free money and all expenses paid, how do YOU think it will turn out?

Comment that didn't get approved. I warned you. Last paragraph was fine, first, well, you don't see it here, do you?

4:07 PM here, Didn't mean to make anyone mad, just didn't understand. Usually there's a disclaimer about paid advertisement, no biggie. I just didn't understand the new tagline.

@ 4:49 PM, I agree, JJ and KF rock. I was afraid something was changing and knew if KF went away then we'd be screwed. One of the cool things about JJ is there is a forum to comment and ask questions.

First, I commend you for expanding the content on the site with relevant LOCAL content. At least you are not supplementing it with national stories that I can get at the major networks like every other online news blog (or in some cases psuedo-news tablog) in Jackson.

Second, the choice of BPF appears valid based on the subject matter discussed here across the years. Perhaps their take will provide a different "skew" we can tear into.

Finally, for all the neysayers, start your own blog.

I say welcome. Looking forward to the dialogue. Do I get a consulting fee for this?

Kingfish said...

They are no different than the liberals who scream "he's a racist" or "he's a nazi" when confronted with something they don't like.

Anonymous said...

The sooner we realize there is virtually no difference between the two major parties that have seized control of the US, the sooner we might come out from their control. Until then, we fight among ourselves. Divide and conquer.

I applaud BPF for opposing this Kemper power plant fiasco. Over the last 4 years, there has been a DECREASE in electric demand in America, both residential and commercial. There is plenty of current, already built, excess capacity here in MS for power generation. The fact that this plant is already $500 million over budget, is an extremely expensive new plant, and relies on completely unproven science and technology paid for by the current MS Power ratepayers, is nothing short of the Mississippi State Legislature trying to pick winner and loser companies on the state resident utility bill-payers backs. It is pure corporate-socialism, just like the Dems love pure government-socialism.

How often are Kangaroot and other suck-ups who give glowing kudos to Kingfish ever censored or edited? The answer is NEVER. This forum is open to opinion as long as it agrees with the site owner. Shades of Y'all Politics.

KF..regarding your 9:30am post...

Are you arguing that it's ok to do wrong because the other side did wrong as well?

Surely, that was not your intention.

Kingfish said...

Nice try at putting words in my mouth. My point, which you very well know, is none of these commentors discussed the merits of the actual posts or its claims. Instead they attacked board members, questioned their motives, and the like. Just like liberals do when they don't rebut arguments or news but instead call someone a racist or a Nazi.

Anonymous said...

Just trying to clarify, KF...
You are, then, describing the state of our national dialogue these days. Attack the messenger rather than address the message.
I'm glad you understand that both conservatives and liberals are guilty .

who wrote this? that demented Ole Miss journalism professor on the other thread? :-)

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
