Madison-Rankin District Attorney Bubba Bramlett issued the following statement.
Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney John K. “Bubba” Bramlett announced today that a Rankin County jury found Jorge Rodriguez, 36, of El Paso, Texas, guilty of Aggravated Trafficking of Cocaine following a trial in Rankin County Circuit Court. The Court subsequently sentenced Rodriguez to serve 34 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, to be served day-for-day without the possibility of parole. The conviction arose from a traffic stop on I-20 conducted by the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Interdiction Unit. During the stop and subsequent investigation, deputies, with the assistance of a K-9 partner, discovered approximately 12 kilograms of cocaine concealed in the trunk of the vehicle occupied by the defendant. The cocaine was hidden inside a tire that did not belong to the vehicle. The State also presented testimony from a Special Agent with the Texas Department of Public Safety, who testified that approximately two months prior to the traffic stop, Rodriguez sold him four ounces of cocaine while the officer was working in an undercover capacity. District Attorney John K. Bramlett stated, “This was not a small amount of drugs or a close call—this was large-scale trafficking. When that kind of activity comes through Rankin County, we will find it, we will prosecute it, and we will make sure those responsible face serious time.” The District Attorney’s Office commends the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Mississippi Forensics Laboratory for their work in this investigation and prosecution.
Kingfish note: Do the crime, do the time. Tell 'em Bubba sent ya.

Enjoy your lengthy stay in the Hospitality State, Jorge.
I'd like to see a side by side sentencing report between Madison and Hinds Counties by crime.
There's no way this same individual would get the same sentence in Hinds - more like credit for time served and house arrest.
34 years???? 34 years of our tax dollars supporting him. Why can’t GROWN ADULTS make up their own mind about drugs. I personally would NOT use them but adults should make up their own mind
4oz purchase to a 12kg bust?
@9:40. That's why you no longer see any interdiction efforts in Hinds County. There was a time when Hinds SO, MHP, and even Clinton had interdiction units. When is the last time you saw a drug bust on I-20 or I-55 in Hinds County? With that group of circuit court judges, it's not even worth it anymore.
9:40am my thoughts also.
@10:21 - Unfortunately, these vermin sell drugs to minors who lack judgment and maturity to make up their own minds.
so do convenience stores and parents who buy booze for kids.
He should have been selling fake timber investments, and then there might be no prosecution and he might get to keep the money.
10:21, 25 pounds of coke can cook up a lot of crack, which can cause a lot of misery and property crime.
(It seems like every family has one, and If you can't spot the crackhead in your family, you're probably it.)
So the government decides what’s best for me?? I support drug education but not putting GROWN ADULTS who chose to screw up their own life’s
Do you just like making shit up, Mr. Stokes? Perhaps you'd better serve your "community" if you actually attended city council meetings. And stop trying to back hood rats. Go ahead and accuse another person of being a drug dealer, I'm sure you miss being the life of the party when you had a clown to distract from your ineptness.
Just wondering if the food is better in MS prisons since a USMS caught a Canadian most wanted in Tupelo & several out of state fugitives caught recently. Why are they fleeing here? 34 years day for day is a l o n g time but if food is good?????
It’s there choice, grown adults make their own choices whether their on drugs or not. LEO’s must follow the law to protect the. I n n o c e n t!!!
