MDOC Reports 2 More Deaths

The Mississippi Department of Corrections issued the following statement.

An investigation is ongoing into the deaths of two inmates at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman. The Mississippi Department of Corrections will continue to provide information as soon as it is verified and is committed to providing updates as quickly as possible.

Timothy Hudspeth, 35, and the second inmate suffered fatal injuries Monday night at Unit 30, where they were housed, following an altercation with other inmates.

Thus far, investigators have determined that the conflict that resulted in these two deaths is unrelated to the recent series of killings within the prison system.

The safety of staff and prisoners at Parchman is our immediate priority, and we are working hard to restore and maintain order,” said Interim Commissioner Tommy Taylor. “We believe that the motivation behind this latest altercation is limited to this new tragic set of circumstances. The environment that makes such violence possible must be addressed quickly, and we are committed to making changes to do so.

Hudspeth was serving 10 years for possession of firearm by a felon. He was sentenced in April 2018 in Tate County.

Identification of the second inmate is pending notification of the next of kin. Both men were pronounced dead at the prison.

The cause and the manner of death for each inmate are pending an autopsy.

"Thus far, investigators have determined that the conflict that resulted in these two deaths is unrelated to the recent series of killings within the prison system."

Well, that's a comforting reassurance. Like saying all the killings in Jackson are 'unrelated'. They're related only in that thugs are in charge (in both cases) and are running wild.

Unrelated, in what context?

Tim Hudspeth was in for possession of a firearm. Smh

Was this the thug with the full blown "beard tat" ?

Or was this a new death ?

Not trying to be funny, but it's been hard trying to keep up with the details of inmate deaths
over the last few weeks.

They are dropping like flies-

I knew Timothy when we were much younger. A few of his cousins are also in the custody of the MDOC.

Phil Bryant informed recently that order had been restored at Parchman.

Did this happen during another temporary loss of order? Was Phil wrong about order being restored?

You have more people dying each day in nursing homes than in Parchman. It will solve itself.

Unless the legislature does something serious to clean this up, the feds are gonna come in and require us to spend a bazillion dollars to completely rebuild Parchman.

@3:22- ... BY A FELON. It wasn’t JUST possession. He KNEW the risks of carrying the firearm given his past convictions.

Based on 3:39’s comment, he was raised to land in prison. There’s NO WAY his family is rooted in values, education, and hard work, when MULTIPLE members have fallen into the prison system. And, don’t even with the poor neighborhood garble. It doesn’t cost money to be a decent person. It doesn’t cost money to put your family (by birth, not gangs) first.

Regarding the original article, it’s been documented that this entire shit-storm started over gang conflicts. These deaths are absolutely related... no matter how MDOC tries to spin it.

Unless MDOC staff are directly responsible for killing the inmates, I dont see the big deal. They aren't in the free world. Prison is dangerous. People are raped and murdered in prison. It isn't an adult daycare. You aren't supposed to be there. Boohoo. Don't break the law.

Phil left the rainy day fund. Use that money to rebuild. That’s a drop in a bucket compare to what he walked with. Cut public school. Mental health. MDOC to name a few. That’s why the rainy day fund is at its ceiling! Nothing compared to what he kept.

When reading a great many posts here I see that the Constitution's Bill of Rights is somewhat righteously supported by a great many regular visitors here. But of course it's the 2nd Amendment that matters and the others not so much. But if the 8th Amendment can be so eagerly ignored why not the 2nd?

@6:00- That’s just a stupid assertion to say that he pocketed money versus (unnecessarily) increasing budgets. WHY do you think more money is the answer? Throwing more money into broken systems DOES NOT fix problems. Even CA, who LOVES to spread money around irresponsibly, is chock full of problems. The “politically-correct” (but actually defunct) systems we have in place are the problems. Govern with intelligence, not emotions!! (And, stop making random accusations because your guy or gal isn’t in charge. It’s lazy and ugly!!)

@6:26
Nice try but the 8th ammendment doesn't obligate the corrections system to protect inmates from each other.

The 8A was quite literally created to prevent the state from practicing the type of torture and execution the crown had practiced such as being stretched on the rack or drawn and quartered.

Your argument could be applied to the CIA and the military prison at Gitmo. But the ironically named PATRIOT Act makes that activity classified.

You have missed a lot of posts here 7:24. MDOC management that results in prisoners killing each other is looked on as good prison management by quite a few.

Hey, 7:24. As a civil rights lawyer for 33 years I can assure you that the State, under prescribed circumstances, is in fact required to protect not only one inmate from another but also the inmate from harming himself, in response to a known danger or risk of serious harm. Parchman now clearly has an atmosphere of pervasive violence and civil rights are clearly being ignored. Whether under a state created danger theory or simple policy level deliberate indifference under Section 1983, the State has a problem. Eleventh Amendment immunity will be of benefit but won't preclude Bivens actions or individual capacity liability for which the State will inevitably bear the indemnity responsibility.

The families of the inmates are worried for their safety! I say to the families your worries are duly noted!

Let’s move on to educating and helping our citizens that are not locked up.

I really don’t give a rats ass about an inmate! Prison ain’t the real world, that’s why I worked two jobs and went to college on my GI Bill. I made choices! It ain’t fair in the real world and it damn sure ain’t fair in prison. I made my choice to be crime and prison free!
Its not the citizens of Mississippi’s job to continue to cuddle your misfits. Enough is enough. I don’t want people getting hurt anywhere regardless of their situations. However, I want to make it plain and simple. Fu-k an inmate!!!

Just think how many thugs out there are saying, “man I ain’t going to Parchman, the guards can’t protect you”.

Prison is a dangerous place and when the unexpected happens there is no tot blame. These issues are not unexpected however and the blame lays squarely at the feet of the legislature. Like usual they wait until a crisis happens then will make a knee jerk reaction and be swayed by the next lobbyist who tells them they can make this go away. Incompetent!!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
