A student uprising is afoot at Ole Miss after the university announced IHL Commish Glenn Boyce will be the new Chancellor:

Damn, no "no blood for oil"?  Disappointing.

Tail wagging the dog. I bet not a single one of the protestors has ever written a check to Ole Miss for anything.

Another student protest at Ole Miss - wanting to have things their way, nobody else's opinion matters.

Call in the National Guard. Better yet, nationalize the Guard.

Maybe then they will start teaching history at this "university" - so they can learn from the mistakes of the past.

Ole Miss has been fcked up since they got ride of Col Reb. That college is a Left Wing Democrat run place. It used to be the top college now it sucks. The only good thing about Oxford is Funky’s and the Library on the square.

Anonymous said...

Who the hell cares about this? The only university leader that matters here in the South at any University is the head football coach, baby! What a bunch of losers, spending their time and wasting their energy on such nonsense as this protest.

The only thing that should matter right now is whether Coach Luke pulls a choke job and loses to Vanderbilt tomorrow! Vanderbilt!!! Bwaahhhh hahahahaha! Such football prowess there! Shaking my head.

These nerds pulling this stunt today had damn well better be back at the football facilities on Sunday morning if Coach Luke screws up tomorrow and loses. That would be the only protest that matters.

Does anyone remember that Jackson Mississippi paid a firm to find them the best Fire Chief in the USA? The consultant they hired decided he was the best for the job. Four Chiefs were murdered by a deranged fireman trying to kill him. He was using drug testing as punishment -- basically someone who just didn't understand Jackson. I am always leary of a Search Leader naming himself as best. Wonder how much this man had to do with the leader of JSU? And how much money did they waste and people's time interviewing. Smells to high heaven to me. PS: I definitely agree that nothing has gone right at Ol'Miss since they got rid of their mascot and tried to obliterate the name 'cause it was racially insensitive. Damn, I'm getting triggered by these folks!

Why do Jackson Jambalaya articles like this remind me a lot of the new Joker movie?

We live in a Society

Right 5:16, Ole Miss was perfect until they got rid of Col Racist. Look away, look away, ......

This protest was organized by supporters of another candidate that has people with close ties to students. Students do not protest this quick without a leader or push. Some can not let go.

So next time the IHL wants to hire a prez, are you going to apply? This guy sat in all the meetings, heard all the private conversations, and knows what weaknesses the board sees in all the candidates. If he wanted to be a candidate, he should have declared himself a candidate months ago and not been involved in the selection. If I were on the board I would have said, hell no. In the future, people who are highly qualified for these job will know #1 Your name will probably be leaked. #2 An insider who you know nothing about and learns all about you and is friends will all committee members might get the job. IHL has done a poor job for the last several years at this. This should be the last straw. It's time for the IHL board to admit that they are failures at this and devise a new process. Even if this guy was a good candidate, the fact that he would participate in this shows that his political and human relations instincts and too poor for this job.

I’m so bummed out and depressed that I am beginning to wish that I was a leg humper. They were able to land a congressional aide as president. Why can’t we do better?

Anonymous said...

Can anyone explain, without histrionics, why Boyce is not a reasonable choice? I'm not asking who might be better or why that other person might be a better choice, I'm only asking why Boyce is not within the spectrum of reasonable choices.

Anonymous said...

Plenty of people are complaining and upset about the process. Students are stakeholders they have every right to protest. They didn't read Barksdale's application because it was turned in late but they hire Boyce? He is talented and may well do a great job. That doesn't change the fact that the IHL didn't follow its own process and hired someone who was paid to consult on the search. If your a taxpayer in this state you should be protesting.

10:31,

Are you serious?

The guy lead a juco for a couple of years, and before that he swam in the MAIS and MHSAA waters. High school. That’s what he qualified for. Maybe go back to juco, but he’s high school.

He most definitely has no experience in running a multi billion dollar organization that has specialty divisions in healthcare, medicine, and law plus the standard university fare. He’s wholly unqualified for this position and it isn’t close. Literally every other finalist had a better resume than him.

Anonymous said...

10:31, responding to 10:42,

I was and am serious. I am not advocating for him nor am I against him. I am simply trying to understand what the opposition to him might be. As to the new person having previously managed a state university and its budget, none of those (publicly) put forth as the "best" candidate had such experience. I asked my question simply to learn about him, good or bad, not to further debate about the other candidates who at this point no longer matter.

Anonymous said...

That's the sloppiest-looking bunch of Ole Miss students I've ever seen. Is that what "inclusive" looks like? Damn.

Anonymous said...

10:31 He's not qualified because he doesn't know enough about politics or human nature to realize that the board can't interview all these high profile people, leak their names to the media, and then hire one of their own without doing SERIOUS damage to the state's ability to attract talented Presidents for future jobs. No matter his resume or skills, this had to be a hard NO for someone who would be good at this job. Even if he's convinced he's by far the best fit, he threw the 7 other schools under the bus for hiring presidents for years to come.
And it's even more than that. By doing this he's told the entire state his moral compass is off. Who is going to trust him? How can he be effective if people don't trust him?

Anonymous said...

We had a chance to hire a Chancellor with previous experience as a Chancellor. We could review their record.

We got a leader from Holmes Junior College who got that job when the former leader was caught in a scandel.

Boyce also got the IHL job when the #1 candidate resigned on the day he was to assume duties.

He choose Half-Wit Vitter as our previous chancellor.

Boyce is Luke 2.0. He was always a second choice. No SEC or any other 4-year university would want him.

That's why we are upset.

Anonymous said...

If Boyce was a Leftist, this protest never would have happened. It was not about the “process”. The Libs just don’t think he’s liberal enough.

Anonymous said...

Anywhere else in the world this would be a scandal. The guy doesn't know enough to not brag that he's a "lifelong academic." THAT's the problem Bozo!

On the other hand time was Ole Miss students would riot rather than admit one USAF veteran grad student. People died. For this not even one paratrooper.

Hard to know which side to hate worse.

Anonymous said...

Reminds me of the Bernie supporters after they finally realized the 2016 primary was rigged by Hillary for Hillary. Harvard needs a chancellor......excuse me, Ole Miss needs a Chancellor who well-dressed, basic liberal platform (nothing too crazy), and has the appearance of being a respected intellectual. Maybe Boyce fits that model.

Anonymous said...

The choice here is not the issue. The issue is the sham of a procedure that was taken by the IHL to do what they "or somebody" pleased to do, and damn procedures and integrity. As a earlier poster said, every Mississippian should be grossly offended that the process of choosing a chancellor was flaunted so frivolously. I am told that the the choice of chancellor came down to Khayat's boy, Cal Mayo, or Trent Lott's boy, Chip Pickering. Lott won. Pickering is, for all intents and purposes, the anointed choice. Boyce will step aside at the appropriate time. These over the hill "has beens" (Khayat and Lott) just can't put it down, can they? Everyone should take note that every IHL member was a Bryant appointee.

This may be the most blatant "slap in the face" of procedure and public trust I have seen in decades.

Hairlip said...

The main problem is see with Boyce is that fuzzy mustache. It looks like a caterpillar

Anonymous said...

This scam appointment is pretty bad, but look on the bright side all you Col. Reb fans! It could have been worse for you...they could have named a black guy as chancellor! I imagine your collective heads would have exploded.

Anonymous said...

Some of you do not like protesters. Some of you might not mind protesters if they are Caucasian or claim to be Christian ( in which case a few who are not Caucasian are acceptable).

That the choice was made by the person in charge of choosing and he chose himself, and that he was not even remotely qualified when compared to others under consideration seems a valid reason to protest to me. And, I'm not an alum. If this were my alma mater, I'd be spitting fire.

Anonymous said...

PS as a non alum, I'm P.O.d over the waste of my tax money in this process and hire.

Anonymous said...

Forget the tear gas—— throw in a banana peel !

Anonymous said...

Second choice Boyce lands another cush high paying job, nothing but a ladder climber feathering his retirement nest...

Anonymous said...

I don’t understand the Boyce stepping down for Pickering theory? If he steps down he can’t name his successor? They will back in the same IHL hiring process again.

Anonymous said...

All those bemoaning the IHL need to realize that Ole Miss is a public institution paid for by our tax dollars. Although I didn’t go there I am glad we have a diverse group making this decision. If only alumni made the choice tax dollars would be funding Lott and Boss Hogs playground. Don’t like go start a private college without my tax dollars and do whatever you want.

@6:47

Boyce maybe a lot of things but he can not be accused of being an intellectual.

I know Boyce has never taught at a 4 year college, I wonder if he has ever published an article, completed research, etc

Is OM considered a research institution ?

Anonymous said...

Let’s name all the other Mississippi institutes of higher learning that never seem to have these problems yet the OM faithful think they are better than. They deserve all of this and it couldn’t happen to a better group of people.

Anonymous said...

Like so many others, I question a faulty process for selecting Boyce. Even more, I'd like to know about his accomplishments in previous jobs. What is Boyce known for re: career successes? The communications surrounding his announcement are as bad as I've ever seen.

Anonymous said...

You're absolutely correct, 6:48. If there is something in life you don't like, it is obviously racist.

Anonymous said...

What’s the real problem here; Is Boyce not liberal enough, is he not the right ethnic persuasion? Did no one ask the opinions of that bunch of unwashed kooks that were screaming and yelling in protest? What has happened to our once proud University, our Pride of the South? Obviously, it’s been taken over by a bunch of liberals who identify with hippies and druggies. Maybe Dr. Boyce can make some much needed changes to the University and restore our pride. Welcome, Dr. Boyce, Hotty Toddy!

Anonymous said...

Since Dr. Boyce retired as IHL commissioner, I assume he is drawing his PERS pension, based on his years in the state system, and the average of his four highest salary years. Will he be required to come out of retirement and become active in PERS again, or will he be allowed to continue drawing his PERS retirement along with the full chancellor salary, and sign on to one of the retirement plans available as a PERS alternative to coaches, faculty, and certain administrative positions?

Anonymous said...

Liberal thinking at Ole Miss has decimated contributions to the school!

Anonymous said...

Boyce is not so much the issue. It’s the process or the lack thereof. These deals behind closed doors for us a black bear, and a shark that looks like a lizard.

This is not 1958. Those ways don’t work these days.

Anonymous said...

Liberals! Liberals! Everywhere in higher education all you see is liberals! The more "elite" the school the more liberals! We should make Ole Miss a junior college once and for all, then we can go back to the good ole days and get rid of these liberals!

Anonymous said...

Why do we have an IHL?

Why can’t each school’s own board run it?

Why do we pay an extra level of bureaucrats and sinecure-hunters?

Abolish the IHL.

Anonymous said...

Agreed this is the process that has served the colleges pretty well over the years. Nobody had heard of Rodney Bennett but he has turned out to be a great President. The Problem here is that this really smells like backdoor deal

Anonymous said...

To 2:13. I worked in building construction in Mississippi for more than 40 years. The IHL eliminates extra jobs as related to design and construction of buildings. Not at the larger schools. They would have enough work to hire staff. But the smaller schools are able to supervise with a maintenance director level staff person because the IHL provides professional architects and construction inspectors who cover several schools. Also, the state gets lower prices from contractors because the IHL standardizes the process for all the schools and the contractors have fewer surprises. Not saying it's not a pain sometimes, but you know what you are getting into. To 2:14 I'm thinking just the opposite. Without researching it, my feeling is that over the past 15 years or so at least 50% of their hires have been what i consider failures. MSU made a great hire, but the one before that wasn't. People who work at USM tell me it's just a shell of what it used to be. At UM this will probably be their third bad hire in a row. ASU had a couple in a row. So did Valley. There must be a better way to do this. What we have now is failure with a few lucky picks sprinkled in.

Anonymous said...

With all due respect 2:14 Rodney Bennett is a very nice man, but he is far from a great president. Enrollment down (even though the claim to have better quality students is questionable). Most recent reorganization is not going well. Many qualified faculty and administrators have left. His first big hire, Athletic Director, has been revolving door. RB's qualifications are questionable (no Ph. D) No major fund raising campaigns (survey says no vision for university , so probably not a successful campaign).

Again, nice guy, but just a place holder.

Anonymous said...

IHL Must go. This is an out of date way to allocate money and select presidents. It was set up to keep everyone but Ole Miss down and now even though this has protected Ole Miss all these years to the detriment of the State. It is ironic that is Ole Miss students revolt is going to hopefully get this process changed. HA I love it.

Start allocating money by student and allow the other schools to offer majors previously limited or denied and educate our People and workforce. DUHH This is not Hard

5:16 As a STATE grad I agree completely! I think they should bring back Col. Reb, Confederate flags, Dixie and the whole 9 yards. I bet y’all would really be a sports and academic powerhouse then!! Please by all means make this happen.

Anonymous said...

I am an Ole Miss graduate who knows Dr. Boyce well. He is a visionary that will serve our university well. I urge you to give him a chance to prove himself and you will have the same opinion of him as me in a very short time.

Anonymous said...

Well 6:40, like it or not . . . that wasn't as embarrassing as the State Ag college ringing "cowbells" non stop for hours at a time.

Sad thing is, the state agriculture college still prides itself on such antics.

But yeah . . . ya'll do churn out some decent cheese for the welfare office.

Hail State !

Free Cheese ! !

Jerry Clower ! ! !

BTW . . can someone explain what "Hail State" means ?

Is it like a redneck Caesar thing ?

I long for the days of old when we (Ole Miss) beat State down so badly that our receivers would piss on your end zone logo! Now that is what Ole Miss is really about. Not this university leadership bs. It shouldn’t even be a story. We are football, football, football, and we are coming to beat you down and piss on you again, weak little puppies!!! The new Plumlee and Ealy combo is unmatched anywhere in the entire country and they are going to destroy everyone else left on the schedule.

@ 12:17 - Yes, as an employee (not a contractor) whoever assumes this role will be a PERS participant, even if previously retired from the system. I have no idea whether he was retired. And if this particular scenario plays out, his 'new' four high years will be the next four at OM. He'll make more in retirement than the current deputy in the governor's mansion.

This is a political hit job. Haley, Phil, Trent, etc. trying to get Chip Pickering in the queue to follow this guy. Chip only has expertise in one area............

Anonymous said...

@12:41, you are exactly right. The IHL Board did the bidding of the politicos without regard to the announced process and continue to lie about what happened. Someone on the Board leaked the names of the 7 finalists, causing the best 3 to withdraw. Then the Board turned to Boyce, who had to have known for some time that would happen. He did not just decide on the spur of the moment that he would leave retirement to take on huge responsibilities. Credentials aside, Boyce’s complicity in the deceitful process should disqualify him.

Anonymous said...

So, where the hell is the process at this moment in time? Is he or is he not the chancellor. With the presser cancelled and no other announcement having made,I'm assuming he quit as soon as he was hired.

If he reads this blog, he headed to the house.

Anonymous said...

So..Boyce is 'a visionary who will do well'. A visionary? What the hell does that mean? What level of 'vision' did he exhibit while in a high school setting, or, briefly in a leadership role in Goodman at Holmes Junior College. Where is any evidence of 'vision' there or in his recent job as a token leader of this institution that has now hired him? Visionary my rump!

Fact is, IHL has failed miserably in hiring the last four full time and two interim chancellor's at Ole Miss and they figured this would be a safe way out of that legacy.

And, they have no better record with LaForge at DSU or any of the other selections they've pushed forward at the HBCUs in this state. And I'm fearful of any appointment to this board that Tate Reeves will make. We are in a heap of shit, folks.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
