The Normandy invasion continued 75 years ago today. The soldiers who survived the bloody assault on the beaches pressed forward. Posted below are several pages from the June 7, 1944 edition of the Clarion-Ledger. They give you an idea of what our grandparents saw as they woke up on that summer morning.
Then there is Captain Erskine Wells. Honored for bravery yet again.

Fascinating level of coverage in the heyday of newspapers. Especially enjoyed the war bond ads sponsored by The Emporium and promoting the WAVES by S.N. Thomas' Sons. I suppose the later is what later became the Thomas Great M store on Farish St. in the block where the parking garage is by the federal building. Bonus question, what was the name of the sporting goods store in that same block? It's on the tip of my tongue....
Hale & Jones?
Yes, 6/7 @ 1:30, that's it. Hale & Jones. A little disappointing, however, that no one else even responded to this KF post, let alone my question. Oh, well.
