Health Care reform updates

Thanks to a commentor, I can now provide you with a link to updates on the health care reform bills from Congressman Joe Courtney's (D-CT) website. Link.

Meanwhile on Senator Cochran's page, he whines about earmarks and mentions nothing about the health care fight or the bills. Congressman Harper and Senator Wicker at least discuss it but unfortunately don't provide us with the same information Courtney did. HOWEVER, props to Congressman Gene Taylor. At least he provided us with the bill on his website. Pretty sad when to find out what is in this bill in order to oppose it I have to go to the Democrats for help.

Seriously, do you really believe that the bills posted online are actually the ones that they are voting on? Currently, there are about 60 amendments that Pelosi says that they will deal with today. I am at the point where I just assume that they are lying with every word.

And the thing that keeps coming to my mind is what exactly is really happening where they want to make this "healthcare" bill the biggest show in town? So far, there is not one intelligent person that has found any cost reduction or quality increase in the current legislation. Let it die a hideous death.

And what kind of special moron thinks that adding 30 million people to the rolls of folks that get free medical services would bring DOWN costs? Look for medical services costs to start increasing at a faster rate than college tuition if DC passes this stupid crap.

Anonymous said...

Paul Mitchell, evidently, you don't pay for or have medical insurance. I pay for and have a child in college. His health care has gone up 75 per cent in the past 3 years and his tuition only about 30 percent. I don't think this bill is perfect, however, I am to the point that something needs to be done. I am tired of paying for those that have no coverage and use the hospital so that uncompensated care accounts for 20 per cent or so of the services that they do. Costs will be brought down if those 30 million have to have coverage and pay their fair share. I will gladly be one of those morons like Dr. Cobb.

Paul Mitchell said...

Anon 12:21, what part of my comment made you think that I do not pay for my own possessions and health? Nothing that I can find in my comment would ever give anyone that idea.

I have no idea what medical calamity that has happened to your kid, but how in the world could his "healthcare" increased by 75% in three years? That means if he was paying for a 100 dollar doctor visit three years ago, that same visit has almost doubled. My doctors visits have only increased in costs by five DOLLARS in the past six years and I am 45 years old. I would assume that your son is much younger and that makes ZERO sense to me.

And yes, I pay for regular doctor visits out of pocket because I do not pay for a prepaid medical program like most "insurance" programs, it is unnecessary for me. I have major medical coverage that I pay for.

How can adding 30 MILLION people to the already 45% of the US population that doesn't pay for medical services bring costs DOWN? They are NOT going to pay anything. Those of us that are paying for our own life and property are going to be forced to pay for them. AS ALWAYS.

Also, you will be responsible for paying for your children to have medical insurance until they reach the age of 26 in this bill. There is NOTHING in this legislation that shall reduce the COST of medical services, not one single thing. Unless, you are on the cusp of becoming dependent on welfare.

Your point of hospital responsibility could be addressed by one line of legislation. Remove the requirement that is in place currently that DEMANDS hospitals to serve everyone that comes to the emergency room. Your problem is solved, then. Instead the Democrats have proposed a bill, over 2000 pages long, that will INCREASE your costs.

As a matter of record, France went from less than 8% of annual income to over 15% of annual income when they went to a single payer plan. This is in the WHO Report from 2006. Plus, not only did costs go through the roof in France, quality has plummeted. This seems like the exact opposite of what you want, doesn't it?

You can count on it 12:21 that if HC passes I will do my damnedest to suck every single penny of benefit out of the system so whiners such as yourself are stuck with the biggest bill possible for this debacle of a ponzi scheme.

Because basically you are saying that you are sick of your costs and therefore you want the HC package so that me and mine are forced to pay for some portion of your fucking bills.

Like the post above mentions 12:21. Load up with ammo. You're gonna need it.

I own a small business ,employing about 70 people and I pay 100% of my employees major medical health insurance. Now, I will likely have to pay more. It galls me that I will likely have to pay even more now that this health care "reform" is going to happen.

Would you folks that are SO terrified please read the damn bill?
And, please get into the real world about insurance cost increases. You don't HAVE to have a medical crisis to see your insurance bill rise 75% in three years.
10 years ago when my kid graduated from college and was healthy as a horse, it costs $360 a month for health insurance until her employer began coverage. 3 years later, that same coverage cost me $ 490 for an equally healthy kid. Both great students with great driving histories as well.
The sky isn't falling.

Paul Mitchell said...

Anon 1:26, I am NOT going to pay for your kid's insurance. I refuse. If you cannot afford children, maybe you should quit spawning.

Anonymous said...

Paul Mitchell, from your previous comments, you are a fucking, ignorant wanker. Health insurance costs have risen higher than anything else in the past few years and a lot of hard working families can no longer afford it. I pay for my own insurance as well but it's gone up 100% in the last five years and my benefits have gone down. Get a fucking clue, you moron.

Anonymous said...

I pay for my own insurance as well but it's gone up 100% in the last five years and my benefits have gone down.

None of those costs will go down numbskull. Those are your new baseline levels. Plus, now you get to pay for some of mine. Bend over and push a little. It will make it easier.

Anonymous said...

Ok, numbskull, I don't mind paying the same price as long as other people are helped. I'm lucky enough to pay for the doctors and drugs I want. A lot of people are less fortunate. It's a moral issue.

Anonymous said...

LMAO. A moral issue? You have no morals.

More dead babies? The bill specifically keeps the Hyde admendment in place. Of course, dead baby person doesn't care if babies die because they don't get health care and our infant mortality rate has increased dramatically. More dead babies ( and mothers) from that than from abortion and we're there with third world countries now.

I don't understand why everyone doesn't know we are already paying for the health care of the uninsured. Do you not get that health care is a " for profit" service?
Does anyone really believe folks without insurance are getting free health care from the medical system?
Who in the hell do you think is paying for it NOW?
Will some of you please read the damn bill AND learn about how insurance operates?
It's about INSURANCE.
Quit letting the politicians play you and think for YOURSELVES.

Paul Mitchell said...

Anon 9:01, this bill is NOT about insurance, it is about pre-paid medical services. Of course, that is what most people call "insurance" now. Personally, I do not have that type of insurance and my costs have not skyrocketed for my major medical, either. Also, the Hyde rider is unimportant. There are so many mealy-mouthed and ill-defined mandates in the bill regarding specifically "women's health" that the fed can pretty much do whatever the ill-defined "commissioner" decides. My comment about Stupak was mostly tongue-in-cheek. He is a Democrat, Democrats wants abortion on demand at any time, that is why they are Democrats. (By the way, abortion doesn't matter to me, it's wrong and I do not need an incompetent government to tell me whether it is or not.)

But, forcing insurers to cover acupressure and acupuncture is BOUND to make the costs for insurance go down, huh? Yep, in the bill.

I am a self-employed person, my costs have NOT risen in the past five years except for a moderate increase necessary to cover escalating medical services costs of the ever increasing number of people NOT paying.

Anyone that thinks ADDING another 30 million to the freeloader rolls will make cost stay the same or lower them simply does not have the intelligence to discuss anything that deals with money. If anyone thinks that this will control costs, since there are NO cost controlling measures in this legislation, has not read it.

Sorry, Anon 5:20, you obviously don't realize that health insurance costs must rise to pay for the services they are insuring. If you cannot make the connection with the already stifling governmental regulations, you probably believe in the Easter Bunny. He'll be here soon. If your insurance costs have increased and the benefit gone down, you should have shopped for a better policy. It is too late now, the federal government is going to tell you what to buy from this point forward. Of course, the increased taxes start immediately, the "benefits" do not kick in until 2013, after Obama has run for office again. Smartest President EVAH.

Anonymous said...

Will some of you please read the damn bill AND learn about how insurance operates?

Provide some links -- to the specific bill language -- otherwise STFU.

It ain't about INSURANCE. It is all about wealth re-distribution. It is all about forcing others to pay for your bills.

Paul Mitchell said...

Anon 9:35, the full text of the bill will never be put online. They made so many moves in the last two days, there is no telling what all is in there, now.

The commissioner language did not get cut, so that stupid Sarah Palin was wrong, there is no death panel, it is just one person. I hope they actually make their rulings in the coliseum and do the thumbs up/thumbs down thingy. That is so cool in the movies.

Anonymous said...

Doctors remain free to choose which patients to accept, whether to accept insurance payment at all and which insurance providers with which to do business. Anyone who thinks this lowers the cost of healthcare simply doesn't understand the cost components.

Anonymous said...

And thanks to the Jackson "congress" you must get in that healthcare mess to get pseudoephedrine.

The bills are posted on line.
They are the official bills and language. There is a summary and the full bill.
The paranoia is amazing but there are meds for it.
You don't have to like the bill but at least know why you are for or against it by READING IT and not because some political group has told you how to think.
That federal dollars would pay for abortions or there are death panels to kill grandma is just a LIE...the BIG LIE.

Paul Mitchell said...

There has never been any language that said "death panel." There IS a commissioner that determines whether treatment will be GRANTED. There is no panel, it is one ill-defined person. That IS in the Senate bill that the Democrat House passed. One person, in a capacity that is only mentioned, yet never described in detail, will decide whether grandma lives or dies. To say otherwise is evidence that you do not know what you are talking about or either you are lying.

Abortion is FULLY funded with tax dollars by the vague description of "women's health services." YES, it is certainly IN THE BILL. To say otherwise is evidence that you do not know what you are talking about or either you are lying.

The full text of everything they passed on Sunday is NOT online. Anyone that says otherwise is THE BIGGEST LIAR. There were over sixty amendments that were voted on. Allegedly, of course, it was not televised, so again, as usual, the President lied, too. To say otherwise is evidence that you do not know what you are talking about or either you are lying.

What do the Obamabots stand to gain by continuing the falsehoods in everything they say? Did the Democrats pay a bunch of folks to troll blogs and spread the manure even deeper? Of course they did.

Paul, I expect my insurance is better and more expensive than your plan. Luckily for me, the company insurance isn't MS based.

You want to kill your fellow Americans who disagree with you politically? Somebody doesn't think like you do so you want to kill them? Good Lord! You are just like the crazy terrorists who want to kill because someone doesn't share their religious belief. At least they've read the Koran, they didn't understand what they were reading but they read it. YOU haven't read diddley squat and your ready to kill?

You are totally nuts and need help.

Paul Mitchell said...

Anon 11:03, I do not use pre-paid medical plans. Never have since I actually read the Blue Cross policy that I had fifteen years ago. I have major medical insurance only for catastrophic illness. My doctor's visits are paid out of pocket. I am trying to keep my costs down because of idiots that use full pre-paid medical plans and go to the doctor for Sudafed. Oh wait.....

I have no clue what your comment about me wanting to kill anyone means. I guess I am just too crazy to understand that logic of your stellar debate. But, this Democrat plan for "insurance" or "healthcare" or whatever they are calling it today, has very little to do with actual medical services, it has to do with regulations and restrictions of administrative services. Of course, you would know that if you had read the bill.

Anonymous said...

Paul, I expect my insurance is better and more expensive than your plan. Luckily for me, the company insurance isn't MS based.

My plan is better than your plan.

My plan is better than your plan.

Finally figured it out. You are a child.

Anonymous said...

I'm hitting 60 but my insurance plan based elsewhere costs the same as my crappy MS plan did and I get a free plane to return me home if I get sick anywhere in the world. I get dental and vision. My Nexium has a $20 co-pay instead of a $100 co-pay. And, in the two years I've had it, $30 bucks has been my largest co pay for anything.

And we won't even get into the fact that my children's auto insurance ( all with safe records and by the same company) is HALF what Mississippians pay.

If you REALLY want to understand health care reform, not only READ the bill, but learn about how insurance companies and the pharmaceutical companies do business AND how it differs from state to state and WHY.

Paul Mitchell said...

Anon 1:26, again, that is NOT insurance, that is a pre-paid medical plan. Of course, that is what Democrats call insurance these days. And they have Teddy Kennedy to thank for that, too. You know, he was the catalyst for HMOs. Of course, you never hear that crap anymore because it was a failure at keeping costs down, just like ObamaCare will be.

Anonymous said...

My plan is better than your plan.

My plan is better than your plan.

KaptKangaroo said...

So let me get this straight. As a kangaroo in MS, I am not only subject the general populate who can abuse, torture and maim me to death, but now I have to worry about a "death panel" who will decide my fate and label me worth of maim, torture to death?

Hogwash!

But I do like the idea of consumer protections in place to regulate the insurance industry.

Anonymous said...

Well, I see that no one went to the site and read the bill but are STILL parroting GOP and health industry scare tactic slogans.

The ONLY change you'll see anytime soon is that you can keep your children on YOUR INSURANCE POLICY until they are covered by an employer or reach age 26.

By 2014, those who don't have health insurance will have to pay the government for having to cover them via fines.

Right now, YOU are paying for people with NO coverage via Medicaid or by the doctors or hospitals jacking up your costs.

NOW, if even you have paid for coverage with NO health problems for 40 years, if you get a problem like diabetes or cancer, your premiums get increased to as much as ( for several of my friends) $7000 a month or get capped so you have NO coverage. Forget ALL those years that you made a big profit for your insurance company by staying healthy enough not to go much past your deductible.

Please people, this issue affects every American. DO your homework and STOP relying on agenda pundits for information!

Paul Mitchell said...

Anon 8:58, in your second paragraph, the sentence should read, "One of the MANY changes you'll see RIGHT NOW is that you MUST PROVIDE your children MEDICAL INSURANCE until they are covered by an employer or reach age 26." That is a monumental difference from your statement that is almost verbatim from the Clarion Ledger yesterday. You and the C-L said CAN, when the reality is that you CAN BE CHARGED and sentenced for up to six months in jail and a 2500 dollar fine if you do not cover your fully grown adult children up to age 26.

On the 2014 thing, the taxees/fines/penalties go into place immediately. The government plan that is yet to even be determined is not going to be in place until 2013. The taxes start NOW, the government provides NOTHING until 2014. That is the only way that they could make it revenue neutral for the first ten years. Tax you immediately for the full ten years and offer no benefits for the first four. See how that works?

Oh, and yes, I have read numerous releases of the Democrats' bills and as soon as the I have a chance to, I am going to read the full text of what Obama signed yesterday, which as of 2:00Pm today still has not been released. By the way, Obama also signed an Executive Order trying to stop the abortion funding that the Democrats say is not in the LAW. That is just weird for him to sign an EO for something that the Democrats keep saying is NOT EVEN IN THE BILL.

Who's lying?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
