Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens issued the following statement.
Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announced that Steven Jones, Jr. pleaded guilty to six charges, including four counts of armed robbery and two counts of kidnapping, on Monday, March 3, 2025. Jones's crimes, which took place in South Jackson, began on March 19, 2023, and continued for two weeks thereafter, prompting a series of emergency calls to Jackson Police. The defendant's actions terrorized residents, as he held multiple victims at gunpoint, robbed them, and forcibly abducted them. In some instances, Jones locked victims in the trunk of their vehicles, demanding that they drive to ATM locations and withdraw cash under duress. Jones was arrested after a string of violent crimes, leading to his subsequent conviction.Jones was sentenced to a maximum of 40 years for all six counts, 17 years suspended to be served concurrently. This resulted in 23 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Jones will not be eligible for release until 2047. "The citizens of Hinds County deserve to go to an ATM without someone putting a gun in their backs and demanding money. This guilty plea and sentencing reflect our commitment to holding individuals accountable for their actions and ensuring justice for the victims. We will continue working tirelessly to create safer neighborhoods for all our citizens", stated District Attorney Jody Owens.
Kingfish note: Did someone say ATM?

Jody should have added “until I’m incarcerated” to that last sentence.
What? No blessing?
Chokwe and Jody may actually do their job now thinking it will somehow save them from prison.
Someone remind Jody Owens that the citizens of Hinds County deserve a legitimate DA who understands that it’s a full time job and one that requires someone who is trustworthy.
I’ll bet everyone in his household is glad this fool is gone! Big mama you can sleep in peace and enjoy your money. He’s gone for real!! And y’all please don’t put no money on his book(commissary).
Dang Jody, you ain’t playing with these fools. Killers in Hinds County usually be out in five!
Concurrent to his Rankin county sentence of 17 years. He will be eligible for release in 2038.
If only he had donated to Chowke's election fund.
Suddenly it occurred to me- Is there a secret con-profit to 'donate' to?
From now until the trial date. Jody is going to do an excellent job. No more deals for the dope boys, robbers and killers.
Great comment LOL
When he gets out in 2047, he'll be approximately 47 years old. I won't be around to say 'I told you so', [or if I am, I'll be too old to remember] but I am going to make a prediction: A full calendar year will not have passed before he commits his first post-release violent crime. A list of violent crimes this long should be enough for life without parole.
