The Flood With No Name

Breitbart News sent a reporter down to Baton Rouge to cover the devastation caused by The Flood With No Name.  Jackson's own Amile Wilson shot the video for the story.

Did you just use "Breitbart News" and "reporter" in the same sentence?

Why would floods have a name? Hurricanes have names. The National Weather Service names hurricanes and they don't cover floods.

10:15 - I chocked over the same thought. Didn't bother to waste time with the post knowing that if Breitbart was involved there would be no truth included.

And have never seen a flood with a name - except maybe the Great Flood of Noah era. Nor a tornado. Recognize this was Bator Rouge (so it is personal to KF) but BR doesn't deserve special naming rights.

What a bunch of jack asses. Heard of the Easter flood?

11:24 - Well, it appears you are a Flood that has a name.

The Easter Flood got its name from news reporters who coveted some sort of award for their writing 'skills' in subsequent years. Nothing more. Breitbart is a foremost organization for truthful ferreting of the truth. Two goobers (one who 'chocked')above would rather get their news from Huffington and the Daley Show. Or Jimmy Fallon.

I stand with 12:57. A bunch of jack asses that would argue with a pet rock. Get out from behind your GD computer and go send $5 to the Red Cross or do something else useful.

No. Don't get my news from HuffPost, Fallon or any oth r such. But also realize Breitbart is nothing but a pay-to-play mouthpiece that wouldn't recognize the truth any more than HP or JFP.

Ever since Breitbart died, it has been as bad or worse than HP. Realize that some folks will believe anything as long as they can find it in the net, but I for myself understand that BB is nothing but crap.

And I also am subject to my wonderful Andr Id word anticipation and spell check. How about I almost threw up when I read the words Brietbart and 'news' and 'report' in the same sentence.

Why don't you go back to your coloring books and listen to talk radio for all your information.

It really is too bad that someone is so prejudice that they cannot sympathize with our sister state's citizens who lost everything. One can never forget the smell and the downright physical exhaustion and mental stress of being flooded in the Easter Flood of 1979. Many were slow to respond to this terrible flood in Louisiana and part of Mississippi and the need was desperate. It still is.

This is a terrible situation that occurred not far from us. Until you have driven through the devastation and seen the losses of all this I don't understand how people can be so heartless.

Our homes are the biggest investment we make. Not only is it just a roof over our heads, it's our domain. It's where we gather with our families. It's where we go to rest at night after a hard days work. These people still have to go to work, if there is a business left to go to and then come home and cleanup and try to piece together what was left all because the Corps of Engineers failed to do their due diligence. Now, if you live in Mississippi and build a lake or pond in certain areas you are fined hundreds of thousands of dollars (and there are cases on file to prove this) but they are so damn worried about training FEMA boys (brown shirts for OBAMA'S security ) in Vicksburg and testing bullcrap they don't worry about flooding anymore. By gosh don't drop any oil in a tributary are you are put in Prison!!! But the people in Louisiana were thrown away because a federal agent who is supposed to control and prevent situations such as I-12 being a damn dam let it slip through the cracks! Want to see waste? Go visit the Corps in Vicksburg. Useless!!!!

Breitbart is not news

A flood is a terrible thing anywhere it happens. The "names" are given usually by the media and ours in Jackson was known as either " The Flood of '79" or " The Easter Flood".
The flood in Baton Rouge has gotten plenty of media coverage and attention. I have sent donations to two groups recommended by The Times Picayune editor, Mark Schleiffstein, who won a Pulitzer for his coverage of Katrina and who was a reporter at the CL long ago.
The notion that somehow, that some disaster victims are more "deserving" than others are unwilling to " help themselves" is using a disaster for political purposes . It is offensive because it overlooks the fact that some people have more resources , financially, physically and mentally to recover than others.
The areas in proximity to New Orleans, unlike Baton Rouge were also devastated by Katrina winds and off shoot tornados. The magnitude was greater as well. Some of those people didn't receive rescue or help for days for those reason.
I don't know what I'd do if my family members or other humans were dying around me from lack of food and medicine and water but I might be driven to break into places with supplies and my mood might get a little pissy given that the adrenaline needed to function.
Also, the repeated example of neighbors building a barn in the good old days is a stupid comparison that overlooks that tools , materials and skills were available. I don't think a bunch of farmers could build a bridge over a bay on a Sunday after church. I hated the " snow" analogy as well and pointed out to one person that shovels washed out to sea during Katrina.
Breitbart is as accurate and reliable as the poor old lady in my childhood who had paranoid dementia but at least, she could occasionally remember when she was a nice person!

No one except those who lived in and around Jackson in 1979 know what the hell the Easter flood was.

I am currently traveling to the devastated LA areas every day helping with the re-build. Over 100,000 homes severely damaged. It's bad. I was also on the MS coast the day after Katrina (and many subsequent days. Neither is worse than the other. When hundreds of thousands of people lose everything, they don't really care if it is named or what it was. All they know is that everything they had is gone.

They are also very grateful for any help that they receive. I am sure your bickering over names and whether or not Breitbart is news is helpful and all, but you people have no clue what a disaster of this scale is like and the years it takes to recover, which really never happens for most. Their lives are changed for the worse, forever.

Breitbart is investigative reporting. They don't claim to be a news organization. They investigate the crap you liberals regurgitate on an hour by hour basis.

Give to the Red Cross? Not on your life. Have you no knowledge of the meager percent of their money that actually goes to projects and the salaries of their execs? Stick that in your Sunday word processor.

Kingfish said...

I'm not crazy about the Red Cross either but it was nice seeing the Red Cross truck go through the neighborhood twice a day offering meals and water. When you don't have a kitchen to use and all the nearby restaurants are out of commission, it's welcome.

When I was in the military I learned anything the Red Cross does for you comes at a very high price.

way to go!

Any room left on your sleeve for anything else?

How's that back?

"Investigative journalism?"

You haven't a clue of what you speak.

You are just an angry, pissed off 50 something year old white guy who had to like black people but didn't want to, had to learn to deal with women at work but didn't want to, and now has to deal with gay guys.

You are the lunatic fringe.....the element who visits Breitbart and the only such people who could possibly think that that trash is based in fact.

You are almost like Phyllis Shlafly.....wrong on ever imaginable point historically....you just aren't dead yet.

Anonymous said...

I am an angry, slightly more than 50 something, pissed off white guy - don't fit any of the rest of your description, but that doesn't matter - and not on the lunatic fringe. Anyone that believes Breitbart has any truth included in what they print does, though, fit in the lunatic fringe and probably does include many of my other 50+whtie guy friends that are pissed off, but we have our sanity. Not all of us are lunatics - so don't throw us all under the bus.

5:41 is a shining example of the tolerant, compassionate, enlightened left.

You are the lunatic fringe ....

You are deranged.

I love you guys....told blacks to stick it for years, gays they are inferior, women to stay home and if they do work, earn less...

And you froth at the mouth with sarcastic

"The compassionate left."

Next time you try to be cute...think about it

Pull Up Them High Water Britches said...

This thread was initiated because this flood had no name. It's not about compassion, donations, who smelled what during a prior event or having sympathy for our neighbors to the south of us. It's about naming a damned flood, or not, you jerks!

And this particular high water had nothing whatever to do with a dam or lack of proficiency by the Corps of Engineers. Sheesh - what a dumbass.

I personally view Breitbart as just another news source. While I do enjoy what they broadcast, I form my own opinions based on many sources. If you want to hear just the left liberal views on a daily basis watch ABC,NBC,CBS,CNN,MSNBC or PBS.I am a white middle aged male who does not agree with the current direction of our country.I do not think I belong in the deplorable basket but Hillary Clinton probably thinks I do because I disagree with so much of what she says. Her record of public service is full of lies and deceit. How her current Meat Loaf medical situation was handled is just another example how far they will go to get the power of the Oval Office back in hand.Very sad.

Wait a second. The Corps does suffer some blame here. They have been trying to build the Comite Diversion Canal for 25 years. Folks down there have even been paying property taxes on it. The Corps meanwhile has studied the problem to death and dragged its ass just as it has on the One Lake Plan.

Google "Comite Diversion Canal" and read what you find.

Brietbart isn't a kook news site:

In order of kookiness:

Alex jones-Info Wars
Michael Savage -WND
Glen Beck - The Blaze
Allen West
Brietbart
Fox

Right, KF. And the citizens of New Orleans blamed the dam break during Katrina on the government too, even though they had been warned for three years according to newspaper reports.

Anonymous said...

6:01. Correct … and their local government took no action. Is the N. O. Mayor still in jail?

Anonymous said...

6:01 pm and 7:27 pm What action were the people and mayor supposed to take to get the Corps of Engineers to do their job? You want to look at whether or not the State officials requested funds. I suggest you both read the Pulitzer Prize winning book on Katrina before you start schlepping out blame.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
