JPD asks state to investigate police chase

The Jackson Police Department issued the following press release:

They came to apprehend some suspects for crimes committed in Madison. The spineless brass of JPD is trying to railroad MPD. The apprehension led to 2 solved burglaries in Jackson and violations in Florida.

Anonymous said...

That's just pathetic.

This smells of ruffled feathers. Or if you speak internet message board: butthurt.

Anonymous said...

This is posturing for the MTCA suit that is going to be filed by the innocent bystander. JPD is saying "get your money from Madison."

There's a segment of society wasting away America. They tie-up law enforcement, the courts, legislatures, government entities, business entities, individuals, in frivolous ideology for the sake of self sanctity. It's disgusting.

Anybody ever hear of backup? Or heads up radio communication?

PittPanther said...

JPD is correct. Get your money from Madison.

High speed chases over a burglary (not an armed robbery), with seriously injured civilians to boot? Not cool.

I must side with JPD on this issue. Can you imagine the blowback from Madison officials if JPD began a high-speed pursuit inside the Madison city limits? While it's good that the incident helped closed a couple of open burglary cases, jurisdictional boundaries are there for a purpose. A good defense lawyer will make hay with this. And, no, I don't work for JPD.

What most of you fail to realize is that Jackson will do anything they can to destroy Madison because it incenses the thugs running Jackson to see such a successful town next door to the cesspool they have created. Instead of trying to do better their solution is to pull others down to their level. Sound like a family strategy? hmmmm?

11:59..

Good point.

The lawyers will have to answer this one, but I guarantee "the queen" would have had a shit fit if JPD (or, any other agency for that matter)had done this in the holy city of "Hawkinsville".

Just one more example of the dickheads running Jackson into the ground.

The Madison police were in HOT PURSUIT therefore this was a legal
arrest. It's a matter of the Jackson Police not working with other law enforcement in Mississippi. I can remember a while the FBI sting on several police for transporting drug from a Jackson Airport.

If a police force cannot trust a neighboring police force, it means we have corruption at the highest levels. Secure evidence on existing corruption and give that to the prosecutors. Our local police forces can both be public servants to our jurisdictions and the people of the state if internal matters are cleaned up.

Anonymous said...

Johnny Wier that chase started in the city limits of Jackson they were not in hot pursuit.

Anonymous said...

This is Horton covering his ass and that of his department. Here in the Jackustan neighborhoods we're still waiting for the new religion he was supposedly bringing to JPD.

Anonymous said...

Anybody remember what the press release by the Madison PD said? It was pointed out here on this board. TWICE did MPD request backup from JPD and both times there was no response.

Anonymous said...

Lee Vance reminds me of Jay Carney. He's obligated to mumble pure bullshit in order to keep his job.

Anonymous said...

Both departments will have a record of whether or not Madison did in fact request JPD assistance in meeting them at Target.

However, regardless of lines of jurisdiction, what if Madison had refused to tail the fleeing suspects and the fleeing suspects had gone down the road and robbed a motel and shot the clerk or had T-Boned a vehicle leaving IHOP and left three dead? How many of you gumps would be calling for the heads of Gene Waldrop's boys?

Anonymous said...

How did MPD get alerted to the suspects' presence at ? Simply dialing 911 from Target would have called JPD. Who called MPD? This is all so weird.

Here's my take. This is likely a case of one department being over zealous and breaking protocol and another department either being lethargic or at least having the reputation of being lethargic.

We will see what the records say regarding when or if assistance was requested by MPD.

One thing is certain, there's what is right and there's the law. Good or bad here in these United States, the law trumps what is right. If MPD didn't follow the law, it doesn't matter that they caught these burglars. They have to follow the law. And the previous commenter is right, Madison proper would LOSE THEIR MINDS if Canton PD or JPD initiated contact with suspects within Madison city limits and engaged in a high speed pursuit that resulted in civilian injury and property damage.

Bill Dees said...

I'm with the JPD on this one. The pursuit began and ended within the City limits of Jackson. The Madison PD had no business engaging in this pursuit.

Anonymous said...

First.....JPD is just mad because they had their toes stepped on and are not as sharp as RPD or MPD. Second......who in the HELL approved that half assed letter??????? What illiterate boob approved that JPD press release????? At this point, MBI is LAUGHING at JPD for that letter....and for that request, for that matter! Jeez people!!!!

Anonymous said...

Whether or not JPD has their panties in a wad about this doesn't matter. Whether or not the criminals would still be on the loose doesn't matter. I pray that none of you that can't get that through your heads never attempt to practice law or even get called for jury duty. The fact of the matter is that the police have to follow the rules. Otherwise, they can disregard the law anytime they deal with you or I as well.

Anonymous said...

JPD are just trying to cover their lazy asses. If they'd been doing their jobs in the first place, Madison's Police would not have needed to go to Jackson to get the job done.

Jackson's non-handling of the situation does much to illustrate why people are leaving 'The City With Soul' as fast as they can, and why retailers are DESPERATE to get out of Jacktown.

3:17, I agree. The tone of that "press release" reminds me of one of those really, REALLY cheaply-made TV Cop reality shows. Hard to believe it was released by a real police department.

And "by-stander" ??? Is that anything like a bystander?

4:17, see 3:34. I know you can read. I have faith in you.

Here is an objective opinion. My house was burglarized a few years ago in a very good neighborhood on the Eastover fringes that I still love to this day. Thankfully I was away on business and my wife and very young children decided to stay the night with her parents. 4 black guys kicked in my front door at 5 am, destroyed the place and proceeded take whatever they wished. I know this because the JPD officer saw the individuals drive off and told my inlaws that he saw 4 black guys in a cadillac pull out of my driveway but due to litigation he could not pursue them. I assume he waved as they passed each other. To this day I have not recieved a return call from anyone with JPD or can get my hands on a copy of the incident report. I know they there must have been aome record because there was plenty of fingerprint dust to clean throughout. Guess what, I moved to Madison 30 days later and fuck JPD! Nationwide said JPD was worthless and not to worry because they processed the whole insurance claim without a police report.

Bill Dees is correct. The pursuit initiated outside of Madison's jurisdiction and inside the city limits of Jackson. Madison had no legal jurisdiction to make an arrest even for jaywalking.

It's not a matter of JPD not wanting to assist Madison PD,it's a timeline issue. By the time Madison had arrived at the Target store the baddies were already leaving. JPD simply had not had time to arrive.

The facts are simple. Madison should not have begun an active pursuit but rather followed the suspects at a safe distance while coordinating with JPD to have JPD stop the vehicle. If a pursuit had initiated within the jurisdiction of the MPD then they could have pursued them INTO Jackson. Imagine if JPD came to Madison and began a chase in the WalMart parking lot.

This isn't about "posturing", "ruffled feathers" or any of that ridiculousness.

Anonymous said...

To 10:13…… " JPD simply had not had time to arrive". What an asinine comment to make. Madison PD had time to get to Target (which, BTW, dumb bass, is in Jackson), but Jackson PD didn't ?? (who BTW, as their name inferrs, are also in Jackson). You'll have to explain that one to me. …..and maybe Bill Dees was correct. maybe MPD was not supposed to initiate a pursuit in Jackson, BUT, people outside of Jackfrica are sick of thugs committing crimes and running and hiding across the Jackson city line where they know nothing will happen…..as witnessed by this incident…..JPD didn't show up!

Anonymous said...

11:26, if a 911 call was made, MPD wouldn't have received the call. So obviously MPD got a direct call from someone at Taget, meaning JPD didn't get the call. If MPD truly didn't radio or call JPD, then there's no way they could have been there to assist MPD. You assume they got the call at the same time. Records will reveal whether or not that is the case.

Being sick of Jackson's people or police doesn't give MPD the right to break jurisdiction laws, if indeed that happened.

Anonymous said...

So, is it possible, despite a million dollar bond, these thugs could skip town because the MPD had no legal jurisdiction to apprehend someone in Jackson?

Anonymous said...

JPD refuses to arrest anyone with an active misdameaner warrant. My nieghbor got slugged, went to pascagoula to deal w/rude court services, warrant issued and had to gripe to lee vance to have arrest made. Criminal was field released, no show at trial (6 mths later) only tohave rude dispatcher say " jails are full and then we don't pik up misdemeanors. JACKSON IS DONE! STICK A FORK IN IT.

Anonymous said...

I'm getting the perception that JPD hopes the State will give them traction. If I were JPD, the best play here is to make it a racial incident and call NBC news to get them to run a story on the national news, Today program, etc. I'm afraid the State will side with Madison.

Anonymous said...

Time and time again those doing crimes outside of Jackson flee back into the safer confines of Jackson. Hmmmm, wonder why.

Anonymous said...

It can't be racial. One of the crooks, the dudette, is white folk.

Another irrelevant but interesting question is 'who instructed the chief to file this request with the state'? And lastly, will this get him another star?

Anonymous said...

Geez , killing and hurting civilians over penny ante burglaries and car thefts when catching the culprits later is a no brainer is STUPID.

Car chases are fun in the movies but in the real world, they are seldom necessary.

Madison is wrong in this one. If not held so legally, morally, they suck.

Since when is property more important than life and limb?

to 11:26....

1. I am not a fish

2. The manager at the Target store called MPD directly and told them that the suspects who stole the credit cards were back in the store using them. MPD officers were already enroute to the store, which as i'm sure you know is right on the county line, when the officers advised their dispatch to have JPD respond to the store with them. Madison is at the 110 milemarker of I-55 and the Target store is around the 104. Say.... 6 minutes to travel there at 60mph. As the officers arrived the baddies were on the way out. Now, please tell me what department in Mississippi, or any state for that matter, Has less than a 6 minute response time.

3. Yes, i do know the store is in JACKSON which is what this whole matter revolves around. Madison had no legal jurisdiction to make an arrest or initiate a pursuit because they were in JACKSON.

"Yes, i do know the store is in JACKSON which is what this whole matter revolves around. Madison had no legal jurisdiction to make an arrest or initiate a pursuit because they were in JACKSON. "

So, I asked this before and got no reply, so I'll ask again - does this mean the arrest is not valid and they will be freed?

As far as response times go, the brain begins to die after about 4 minutes without oxygen, so if they're responding to a 911 call regarding a medical emergency I HOPE they can get there in under six minutes.

Those who advocate no chasing, needs to be robbed. Not out of revenge, but out of explanation. It's an obvious argument of emotion to suggest that LEOs should not chase someone because they might injure another. That's the price we pay as civilized people, we have a tendency to have our chaotic individual lives collide with others.

This continued notion of removing responsibility from the responsible parties and displacing it, does nothing but further promote irresponsibility by the bad guys.

And no, jurisdiction has no bearing on the criminal action. A citizen can be detained by another citizen and formally arrested. Jurisdiction is a departmental issue of convenience and segregation and one simply loses authority.

If MPD did not work in conjunction with JPD as the MPD chief's statement suggested, then MPD will have issues at the departmental level, not anything to do with the apprehension and the subsequent criminal matters.

In a civil matter, those involved could seek legal remedy against MPD and the officers if they did start a pursuit outside of their jurisdiction and that caused the accident. That's MPD's biggest exposure. But one would have to assume that MPD officers were going to go to the store and simply observe the bad guys and do nothing else except maybe follow them hoping they would drive into MPD jurisdiction... or they intended to circumvent JPD all-together.

Police chases are dangerous. Innocent people get killed. In this instance an innocent person was hurt. If you're close enough to chase, then you're close enough to get a description of the car and tag number. Also, I'm sure there are cameras at Target. If the bystander had died, a lot of these posts would read differently.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required.
