Are you sick of elections and need a GOT fix? Look no further.
Check out Jamie Adair's The History Behind Game of Thrones website. It is chock-full of historical sources for the material the Fat Man uses in his books. The website says GOT:
is not just based on the Wars of the Roses. George RR Martin drew (and continues to draw) from many different historical periods and countries when he created the novels, including Ancient Rome, the Hundred Years War, the Anarchy, Tudor England, the Dark Ages, the Spartans, possibly Ancient Egypt, and many more. This website discusses some of those influences and intends to explore more of them as time goes on.
We will have to wait until next summer for Season 7. Some spoilers are starting to float around the internet since GOT is now filming in Spain. Spain is used as the site for Dorne so the fleet is probably going to start the campaign there. It doesn't take a genius to figure out the general plot for the season. Cersai thinks she is in charge but she has gone as high as she can. Her children are dead. She no longer has any restraints but her brother and if one follows the books, he turns from her and begins to redeem himself. She has the largest army in the seven kingdoms BUT no allies. She also has no clue whatsoever that a massive invasion force is approaching. No clue, no allies, and no preparations. She probably will not survive the season. The question will be if she will use wildfire to blow everything up or will Jaime finally do one dirty deed and the rest of us a favor by killing her.
Once Dany's armies defeat and clean out the Lannisters, the next battle is obviously in the North. The Starks are back but they are weak. Civil Wars tend to have that effect as several of their original supporting families such as the Karstarcks, Boltons, and Umbers are wiped out. Meanwhile, the walkers have to somehow get past that pesky little wall. The wall was made of ice and forged with spells designed to keep them at bay. However, Bran manages to screw up everything he touches and the wall will be no exception. It will be interesting to see if the Night King's mark will remove those spells as it dissolved the one that protected the three-eyed raven. If it does, then the wall comes tumblin' down and the walkers get to move down South where the real battle takes place. Several of the leaked photos show Dany and her crew in winter dress so it's a safe guess that is what is probably going to happen.
Meanwhile, Sam is over in the Citadel with a Valyrian sword playing around in the library.
