The Kremlin and Big Oil are stuffing more money into Washington’s influence machine as Europe and the U.S. renew their commitment to Russian sanctions.
While Russia may be angry about international sanctions over the Ukraine conflict, Beltway lawyers are mopping up and big names in lobbying are piling in.
Consider that last year, the Washington, D.C., lobbying firm of former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott raked in $300,000 from Kremlin-controlled OAO Gazprombank, which was a target of sanctions. The Gazprombank billings for Lott’s firm are about double what Lott made in annual salary during any of his 18 years in the Senate.
Other high-profile ex-senators like John Breaux of Louisiana and Don Nickles of Oklahoma are also getting in on the Russian action, as is Haley Barbour, the former governor of Mississippi.... (KF note: Mr. Barbour represents Chevron through BGR. See below)
After the U.S. slapped sanctions on Gazprombank last summer, the company hired Squire Patton Boggs, the Washington-based lobbying firm where Lott and Breaux serve as co-chairs of the public policy practice. It received about $450,000 for the work in the nine months through March. Angelo Kakolyris, a spokesman for Squire Patton Boggs, declined to comment..... Rest of article.
Chevron Corp. turned to BGR Group, the lobbying outfit run by Barbour, also a former National Republican Committee chairman.
A Chevron project in Kazakhstan sends oil through Russia via a pipeline in which Kremlin-controlled OAO Transneft is a major player. Chevron and its lobbyists were able to convince U.S. officials to spare Transneft, which is subject to financial penalties, from more onerous restrictions that would have prevented U.S. companies from doing business with it, according to three people familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified.
“Chevron engages with the administration and U.S. Congress to provide perspectives on complex energy issues to help shape an effective and responsible U.S. energy policy,” said Kurt Glaubitz, a company spokesman.
Kingfish note: They better be careful as Reagan is probably not just rolling in his grave but sending his ghost to haunt them. How many times did these sellouts claim they were standing up to the Soviets. It was an Evil Empire then and it is an evil empire now under Putin. This is beyond disgusting as Lott and Barbour work against our national security. Period.

Well at least this might put a damper on Mr. Lott's aspirations to run for Governor. Both of those men would sell their grandchildren if they thought they could put some more money in the bank!
Prediction: Fat Frank Corder and the Establishment boot-lick, Alan Lange, will post nothing of this on Y’all Politics.
The blood of innocents in the Ukraine is on both of their hands. Scumbags.
Love these great Ole Miss guys! Always have. Salt of the earth.
I fully believe that these Russian businesses have the right to be represented. I am disappointed that Haley and Trent are the ones doing it.
I agree with 10:12. Will be interesting to watch Trent explain this if he runs for Gov in 2019. And his Dickie Scruggs dealings, too...
The Hayes Dent firm is currently working hard to rehab Dickie's image. Maybe Trent can get a discount.
Represent Russian national interests? What a pair. As lenin said the Capitalists will sell us the rope we use to hang them. Thanks guys for being great Americans-not!
Lott and Barbour are just the tip of the iceberg. Many more Good Ole Boy's from the Mississippi GOP Establishment waiting in the wings to get their hands on some "not right for America" money. As far as they are concerned, "to hell with the people" it's "every man for himself". I guess they must see the end of the Republic and are stashing it away for a rainy day.
Hayes needs to rehab Hayes
It's one thing for international business interests to be represented. I agree they should be.
I think, however, that those who serve, have served or seek elected office should be barred from representing foreign interests!
All foreign lobbying was once done through their embassies actually and likely still is in most places!
Congress has so corrupted our governmental system in the name of " capitalism" ( which they have butchered rather than fulfill their duty to create a level playing field) that it is likely impossible to save our Nation!
I bet young Haley Reeves Barbour Jr.'s new micro-bikini model wife runs the call-girl ring that services these Russian/Putin mobsters and keeps the cash flowing to Ole Haley and Trent. Disgusting, everything Mississippi establishment GOP is completely disgusting anymore, worse than Farmer Cole's bunch!
Hayes' efforts are failing.
Everybody knows Dickie is only concerned about Dickie.
Hes manipulative and caniving and not out to help anyone but himself.
Dickie's ego cost MS the leader pf the Senate and billions of dollars....and then theres all that we dont know.
Die peacefully Dickie....youve cost us too much.
HOW DO HALEY BARBOUR AND TRENT LOT SLEEP AT NIGHT.
Maybe Boss Hogg Barbour can get his buddy Vinod Khosla to build one of them thar refineries that makes oil out of pine tree scraps for the Ruskies?
And Haley is also the gifter, presenter and apologist for SO/MPC/Kemper. Geez, Haley, sometime consider your reputation and cut bait.
Not only will Barbour and Lott do anything for money, they also spawned people like Scott Walker, Josh Gregory, Joe Cloyd,ect.,ect. Walker was an aide to Sen.Trent Lott for several years before being sent down to the Gulf Coast after Katrina. Gregory stumble to a victory for shoo-in Gov.Phil Bryant and now receives no-bid contracts very regularly. Cloyd was Aide De Camp for/to Gov. Barbour before being sent down to the Gulf Coast after Katrina and is now a partner at Frontier Strategies. They set fine examples for their Republican children to follow. While these guys make their Russian money the off-spring continue to prosper by misusing taxpayer's money. Maybe Gregory and Cloyd will soon join Walker at finishing school.
The Chevron refinery in Pascagoula is the best employer in our state. I'm not going to criticize anybody who is going to bat for a great company like it.
Haley and Trent probably sleep very well at night on the finest European mattresses and 50,000 thread count Egyptian sheets. Paid for by us.
Don't count 'Farmer Cole' out just yet. He's workin' the puppet strings for 95% of the above posters. How many cell phones can he hold at one time?
mr. fish, i sure am glad you took that barbour-world banner down from the top of home page....
