Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves blows away former Chief Justice Bill Waller, Jr. in a poll commissioned by Y'all Politics. The poll states Mr. Reeves gets 50% of the vote while Mr. Waller gets 19%. State Representative Robert Foster brings up the rear at 9% although 27% of the voters were undecided.
Impact Manage Group surveyed 610 likely General Election voters between June 10-14. Landline contacts were 56% of those surveyed while cellphones were 44%. There were 354 respondents for the Republican primary. The poll was taken using live callers.
56% of the respondents identified themselves as Republicans while 36% identified as Democrats. Impact also asked who voters preferred in the general election. Bill Waller, Jr. beat Attorney General Jim Hood 43%-36% while 17% were undecided. Tate Reeves beat Mr. Hood 48%-36% while 12% were undecided.
51% of the voters were female while 49% were male. 26% were black. 40% were over the age of 65 years old. 50% identified as Republicans while 28% identified as Democrats.

How will Adam Gesundheit, Geoff Pender and Jim Hood's press agent Bobby Harrison explain this away?
Meet the new boss...same as the old boss. No new ideas. When the hell is Bomgar getting on the ladder?
these polls mean nothing!
10:33, easy answer. They will respond with whatever answer Josh Gregory hands them. Pender hasn't written an article on this election on his own yet - only repeats what Josh whispers in his ear, or hands him on paper.
354 respondents out of how many registered voters? Shoot, no reason to waste my time or money to go to the polls, its a done deal.
Y'all Politics is a Tate Reeves spin machine. I have seen multiple other poles that show the race is a lot closer and many say they will vote Waller over Tate, but not publicly. I think Tate is in for a rude awakening.
Primary numbers are surprising given the large number of Republicans I have heard say they would never vote for "Tater Tot."
Easy this is like a FOX poll.
ANYBODY with the IQ of a squirrel or better who would vote for a Dem for governor in these times is doing nothing more than looking for government freebies of some sort.
So sad that our state, last in most everything good, and first in most things bad, might have to endure another 8 years of republican leadership like the past 8. Why can't we ele t a responsible Republican governor that will represent all the residents of our statr.
I love polls. They were hilarious in 2016. I hope Tate Reeves strips the state government to the bone. Way too many lazy employees.
On an unrelated note, it appears that flyover country has finally learned about Tulsi Gabbard.
I have said it once, and I'll say it again. I have not come across a single person that will admit that they are going to vote for Tater. I sure as hell won't, and I don't mind saying it.
Anybody who has a bank account under 8 digits that votes Republican in this day and age is doing so purely for racial reasons.
Two words...Alan Lange.
Yall Politics has been carrying Tate's water for most of the year. Their poll is not surprising and is way off base.
I have seen multiple other poles that show the race is a lot closer ...
Sure you have.
Waller would have been my choice but he failed to get local justice courts to enforce the laws pertaining to the tenant landlord act. So no chance I vote Waller.
What this state really wants is another Cliff Finch. He was a sharp stick in the eye to all so-called intellectuals of whatever persuasion and made even the most moronic among us feel smart. Tater is the next best thing.
Go Mississippi.
If Waller had polls saying it was close he would have released the results. He needs the media buzz, he needs the name recognition and he needs the $$$.
Foster never had a prayer.
I really love the Waller family. Great people, all of them. Super nice folks.
I was a bit taken back at his platform, however.
Expand Medicaid. Increase taxes for roads. Not a single mention of downsizing government, streamlining agencies to maximize their dollars, etc.
Only more government expansion.
At minimum, I know Reeves will give bureaucrats and lobbyists heartburn. I don't really care if he's nice about it.
The inferior sample:
The Millsaps College/Chism Strategies Pre-Debate Survey was conducted June 20-21, 2019 with a sample size of 523. 50% of interviews were conducted via landline using live operators and 50% via SMS surveys to mobile phones. The survey has a margin of error of +/-4.27%.
The superior sample:
Impact Management Group conducted a statewide public opinion survey among 610 likely General Election voters in the State of Mississippi between June 10-14, 2019.
The survey has a margin of error of +/- 3.96% unless otherwise noted. 56.23% of respondents were contacted via landline telephone, and 43.77% were contacted by cell phone. Q1 and Q2 were screening questions with 100% of respondents identifying as registered to vote and 94.59% designating themselves as “Very Likely” to vote in the November 2019 General Election. The survey also included a question to screen Republican primary voters, capturing 354 respondents. The Republican ballot test for the office of Governor has a margin of error of +/- 5.29%.
Is it me or are blacks under represented in the poll sample by about 10 percentage points?
@10:56
What a joke. Real racists believe both parties are two sides of the same coin. And they are usually anti-semites. No mainstream politicians in Mississippi or America promotes antisemtism.
Most people vote selfishly for who ever promises them the most. Leftists vote for more free handouts and laws enforcing tolerance of their degenerate lifestyles, and Conservatives vote for politicians who promote their Judeo-Christian beliefs and promise legislation that enforce those beliefs.
I will never in my life vote for Tater Tot. He cut fat tax breaks at a time when the state needed the taxes. He scrapped inspection stickers at a time when the state needed the revenue. He loves making local cities pick up the tab where his Senate refuses to. I don't understand why Tate Reeves gets the support and money he does. I truly dont.
"Dewey Defeats Truman"
"Hillary Defeats Trump"
So do the polls really know who is low man on the totem pole and who has the pole position?
Don't know how accurate the poll is but I would say that is probably the way the primary will turn out. I have yet to see a Waller TV ad.
Only 26 percent of the poll respondents were black, according to the poll demographics, yet Mississippi is about 40 percent black. Something sounds a little fishy about this poll.
I really love the Waller family. Great people, all of them. Super nice folks.
I was a bit taken back at his platform, however.
Expand Medicaid. Increase taxes for roads. Not a single mention of downsizing government, streamlining agencies to maximize their dollars, etc.

Ha! Call us when he stops accepting money from the following groups: The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), Heritage Foundation, Americans for Prosperity, Citizens United, and Freedom works.
Until then, he's in the conservative lobby bag, just as much if not more, than any other Republican in Mississippi
Meanwhile, the coastal counties are getting magnanimous fucked by the office of RINO Roger Wicker, who has done absolutely nothing to try and mitigate the damage done to the seafood industry and those whose livelihoods depend on the Mississippi sound. We have had the full brunt of the Mississippi River dumped upon is while Louisiana was spared. The other two control structures north of Bonnett Carre could have taken some of the burden of all that toxic water off our hands.
"I have seen multiple other poles that show the race is a lot closer …"
Well, I have multiple Check friends who say the poles are not as close.
Wicker is going to slot right into being the traditional Mississippi Republican Senator who spins like a conservative during election and votes like a pork obsessed Democrat after the election.
I am really considering Waller but where the hell is he? I am starting to enter that "He is too damn unorganized to campaign right now and this is how his administration would run" mindset.
@12:48...
I see what you did there, but the bait and switch won't work.
I talk about Waller's platform...government expansion and taxation... as a REPUBLICAN candidate.
You scream about Reeves taking money from conservative organizations and think-tanks.
It's obvious which commenters care about conservative government in a republican primary, and which commenters just don't like someone's personality.
It doesn't really matter though, does it? Reeves will easily win the Republican primary, setting the stage for a head-to-head with pass catching phenom Ju-Ju Smith Schuster.
Signed,
Javert

Tater just looks kinda stupid, acts kinda stupid, and talks kinda stupid. But he's consistent and he's conservative. Mississippi values in a nutshell. Vote Tater!
I'm not surprised.
Reeves will reinforce the stereotype of how the rest of the world sees Mississippi yet again.
Maybe the poll respondents are just being real about what level of leadership Mississippi should expect?
You know, like unattractive people who skip past really good looking pics on dating sites and go for the average-at-best options.
"Tater: The Governor This Miserable State Deserves". Has a ring to it.
1:59 - great move. Quote the MS Today as a source for Republican campaigns. That "non-profit" newspaper hasn't met a republican that it cares about since its founding - and everything it prints about the Republican Governor's race comes straight from Waller's campaign consultant, Josh Gregory. Just as anything printed by Geoff Pender in the CL.
But thanks for the information about how "hard" Waller is campaigning - a news article without anything to back it up except for the newsprint it doesn't use.
1221, if you really think scrapping the inspection stickers was a bad idea because the state needed the money, please go back to school and learn your math. According to the testimony in the legislative hearings the state LOST approximately $3 on every sticker issued.
Besides the money losing aspect, the program was worthless - anybody with a vehicle that 'shouldn't' pass inspection knew exactly which station to go to that would ignore that cracked windshield, or broken tail light. And for the pittance the stations received for issuing the stickers, there were fewer and fewer of them willing to participate in the program.
To fault Tater for ending this program - which, BTW passed both houses of the legislature by wide margins - based on the revenue loss to the state is probably one of the stupidest reasons I've heard anybody give yet.
We have a winner! @2:57 PM "Tater: The Governor This Miserable State Deserves" Perfect line!
All that Tate can talk about is the Wall, Trump, Pelosi, Schumer and Hollywood liberals. He says nothing about Mississippi and its problems because he would have to take responsibility for them.
This is a reasonable editorial about the governor election from the Northside Sun's editor - I'd recommend it as a good read of the state of politics in Mississippi. https://www.northsidesun.com/opinion-columns/reeves-makes-all-look-little-too-easy#sthash.gdEJtCbQ.dpbs
5:44 pm, a 'reasonable' article if you buy into Wyatt's theory that raising taxes is a good thing or that any federal money, no matter what the cost to the state, is a good thing, or that Waller is a 'moderate Republican'.
The Medicaid plan that Wyatt is supporting here, and is touted by Waller is not anything but a replay of the Hospital Association's attempt to take over and manage Medicaid. They tried it in the last two sessions of the legislature - to bypass the competitive bid system (you know, that system that Wyatt was touting just two weeks ago with absolutely little knowledge of the subject, but because it was 'competitive' he thought it was good). This time, though, the MS Hospital Association couldn't get enough votes in the legislature to give them control of a quarter of the Medicaid budget (their proposal was ranked fourth out of four on quality and cost) so now they have rolled out this new "Medicaid for all" plan that supposedly won't cost the taxpayers anything! That's fine and good until one reads the fine print (something evidently neither Wyatt or Waller has bothered to do).
As to the increase of the gas tax, Wyatt has continued to argue for raising this tax because of the "crumbling roads and bridges" - buying into the mantra spread by MDOT and the road contractors (who, by the way, are the biggest contributors to Waller - Wyatt takes great pains to point out some of Reeves' contributors - not the biggest ones - but fails to point to the clear personal interest of the dozens of large contributions to Waller from this interest group) that this increased tax would address the 'hundreds of failing bridges' in the state. Most every one of those bridges are local bridges - city or county bridges - that would not receive a penny of this increased tax. MDOT wants the money to keep on feeding the beast that is running amok without oversight; before feeding it more money there needs to be a reorganizing of the program to get the chickens out of that henhouse as well.
Medicaid controlled by the Hospitals; more money so MDOT and the roadbuilders can keep on with their private club.
Sorry - not my kind of conservatism, nor of good government.
But thanks for the link to what you consider to be a reasonable look at the election. For myself, I don't think I'm going to depend on the editor of a newspaper to tell me his view of good government.
Leave it to Mississippians they always vote against what's best for them, BWT will always do.
Ask yourself, has MS gotten off the bottom ranking of every metric that matters under eight years of Tate? Hint- the answer is no. So he should be fired, not promoted.
Years ago Tater's uncle came to me and asked me to support his nephew, a young banker, who was going into politics. I did and I've watch the boy turn from a nice young man into an arrogant A**. I'm pretty certain that Bill Waller is a fine person. He may be too liberal for me. I need to hear more from him. As for polls, somewhere over the years I decided that political polls were being manipulated and I lost interest. As we saw in 2016, a lot of us have lost interest in them. I had a call from a polling company tonight and started to answer. After a very few questions I realized that the wording of the question seems designed to produce a specific result and hung up. I'm not sure it's possible for the polling companies to be accurate anymore because evidently a large number of people won't cooperate with them.
No doubt Alan Lange's 'people' polled those elitists who read and contribute to his haughty blog. In that regard, I'm surprised Tater didn't register 100% on the poll-meter.
Waller is your next governor, and with good reason.
I know both the candidates and they are both good people.
Bill Waller’s platform is just way too “democrat” for him to get my vote and support.
“Expand Medicaid. Increase taxes for roads. Not a single mention of downsizing government, streamlining agencies to maximize their dollars, etc.”
I will have to vote for Tate.
12:21pm You must have slept through your classes on government or you would know that it takes both the House and the Senate to do the things you mentioned, “cut taxes, eliminate (useless) inspection stickers, etc. The Speaker of the House and the President pro-temp of the Senate can bring a bill to the floor for a vote, but the Senators and Representatives determine if it passes or fails. Tate Reeves didn’t cut your taxes or repeal the inspection sticker law, that was your elected legislators.
We need a real Maverick in Mississippi. Someone who could tell it like it is and address the roots of issues like crime and poverty in this state. Someone not afraid to call out the dema-crackheads for their shuckin and jivin.
I wish Kim Wade would run.
But I dont know if he would take the pay cut.
This thread amuses me. For one thing, if you know anything about Mississippi Politics then you should realize that Tate strong arms everyone that he can. Unfortunately, Alan Lange and the folks at Y'all Politics happen to be beholden to him for some unknown reasons. (probably for the same reason that Phil endorsed him--money). Makes me sick to think about him potentially being the next governor of Mississippi. But on that note, don't think that polls aren't biased and manipulated...they definitely are.
However; an ongoing magnoliareport.com poll has Robert Foster leading with 61%, Waller has 30%, and Tate a minimal 9%. I pray to God that those numbers are more accurate. Oh and fuss about Josh Gregory all you want, but he runs the Magnolia Report and he hasn't altered these numbers--even though they are not currently in Waller's favor. I'd say that speaks of a person with at least some integrity.
So, don't count the underdogs out in this race. I pray to God that Robert Foster wins; if he can't get there though, Waller would also be a good governor. NEVER EVER WOULD I VOTE FOR TATE!!!!!!!!!!! Trump was the underdog in the last presidential election--he still surprised us all and won though. I operate daily in political/government circles and the ONLY people I know of supporting Tate are those who have been "promised" a job OR they are "obligated out of fear".
I fail to see the fascination with Kim Wade. Who the hell needs another muslim in office. Once a muslim always a muslim. And I know he and Kingfish are as tight as two runaway slaves - for that reason this post will never air.
However; an ongoing magnoliareport.com poll has Robert Foster leading with 61%, Waller has 30%, and Tate a minimal 9%. I pray to God that those numbers are more accurate.
While you are at it pray to God that you haven't lost your last ounce of intelligence.
Polls told us Clinton would wipe Trump out- these tell a wrong story too. I think Waller will shock the world. And then he will beat Jim Hood like a drum.BOLD prediction: Jim Hood goes into runoff with RSS or Vanesha...
Quoting from an on-line poll on the Magnolia Report! Fascinating information. Saw where Robert Foster was bragging about this earlier this week. Probably spent most of his day one day loading up this masterful poll so he could have something to brag about.
On-line poll: limited to the viewers of the site (who even looks at the Magnolia Report anymore, anyway) with no analysis of the makeup of the respondents. Comparing that to a professionally run poll with details about how many and what type calls were made; gender, race and other demographics identified; identification as to previous voting history; etc.
Or - the Magnolia Report. Hmmmm. Think I'll discount those fantastic numbers for Foster. Just as Gregory has done (yes, he 'owns' the MR, but doesn't waste his time on it; bigger fish to fry. Certainly isn't going to waste his time on the numbers from this 'poll' because he recognizes the lack of value in them as well.)
Ahem,
Polls don’t really mean much of anything these days. They can easily be conducted in such a way so as to skew the results for a pre-determined outcome.
THAT BEING SAID, Tate wouldn’t be so darn odd in the optics sense if he actually had a vision for Mississippi and delivered the message on ads instead of feigning concern about out of state liberals & religious freedom. The new car tag is just plain ugly, Tate. It’s the color of dust and even the new state seal is off center. That may work on the herd, but not all of us.
Jim Hood isn’t that much better, but at least he has an agenda on the table.
Get real.
There was nothing wrong with the polls,Clinton won the popular vote by 2Million+, dispite the Russian interference.
Tate is shitting a brick right now. More than $6 million in the bank and 16 years in statewide office and he can't beat convincingly two guys that combined don't have a fifth of his money. If Waller gets in the runoff, his name ID goes way up and Republicans in the far reaches of the state will have time to compare the two. Reeves is essentially the incumbent. They get all they are going to get the first round of an election.
There's a millionaire bridge builder that lives out on Hoy at the intersection of North Old Canton. He has a 4x8 sign for Waller on his million dollar iron fence...not that he needs to observe the law in Madison that prohibits campaign signs on fences.
But who ain't for new bridges?
The suggestion that Bill Waller is liberal is comic. He wants MS to accept Medicaid expansion because scores of rural MS hospitals are on the verge of collapse. He wants to generate enough tax revenue to fix our crumbling highways and bridges. Those ideas represent common sense, not liberalism. Four to eight years of Tate Reeve’s back woods policies will be the nail in the coffin for MS.
“The suggestion that Bill Waller is liberal is comic. He wants MS to accept Medicaid expansion because scores of rural MS hospitals are on the verge of collapse. He wants to generate enough tax revenue to fix our crumbling highways and bridges. Those ideas represent common sense, not liberalism”
Entitlement spending is unsustainable. The healthcare portion (Medicaid, ACA, etc) is 26% of the nations 1 trillion dollar annual budget. And you’re telling me the conservative proposition is to expand this entitlement?
It needs a complete overhaul. The best decisions are not always the easiest. Saying “hey, the feds will give us more money” is not conservative. I’m appalled that Foster AND Waller want to expand in the name of conservatism. Why don’t we refocus how to provide care in rural areas, using telehealth and other new tech (and let other companies besides the UMC monopoly provide). Some of these county hospital operations are a joke.
A lot of the bridge and road issues come from poor resource allocation at the local level. There are several new roads via MDOT that are absolutely not priority. Go to your next supervisor meeting and watch how they’ll put paving roads on the credit card (bonds). That’s a basic service that they can’t even properly budget.
The system is broken on all levels. And begging for federal money to fix the problem is not the solution. And not conservative.
Javert
8:33 mentions 'streamling agencies' and 'downsizing government' in order to 'maximize their dollar'. That comes straight off a meaningless push-card - straight from the microphone at the podium of the Neshoba County Fair.
"And if elected, I will streamline your government, put a hot apple pie on every kitchen window sill and pay to have your cat neutered".
I've noticed that the most ignorant among us typically resort to the use of such meaningless platitudes.
