Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement yesterday.
Monday June 10, 2019 around 2:30 p.m., Rankin County Interdiction Task Force Officer Picou was nearly struck by a Ford pickup truck traveling west on I-20 near Pelahatchie. Deputy Picou attempted to stop the vehicle in Pelahatchie to no avail.
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Lance Michael CLARK, began to evade Deputy Picou in a reckless and felonious manner. When CLARK passed Deputy Picou, he made what appeared to be a deliberate attempt to strike Deputy Picou’s marked patrol vehicle.
Deputy Picou was joined by other Rankin County Deputies as well as Officers from Pearl PD, and Richland PD while on I-20. CLARK exited I-20 onto MS HWY 475, crossed over HWY 80 and drove onto Jackson International Airport property. CLARK continued to evade officers and drove onto the upper level of the airport where Airport Police joined and assisted in effecting an arrest.
CLARK was ordered from the vehicle and told to lie on the ground. Instead of complying with those commands, he began swear at law enforcement officers. CLARK was quickly subdued and taken into custody without further incident.
CLARK and his passenger were taken to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. The passenger was found to be an immediate family member of CLARK. Based on their interview, and statements made by family, it appears CLARK may have been suffering from a mental episode. CLARK made statements to his passenger just prior to attempting to hit Deputy Picou that would support him not thinking clearly. The passenger was released from the Sheriff’s Office without charges.
CLARK is charged with felony evasion was well as various misdemeanor traffic violations. He will be held without bond until he has his initial appearance in Rankin County Court. CLARK will be required to have mental assessment prior to being released from jail.
Kingfish note: I dunno, attempting to hit Picou might actually be a form of sanity ((ducking)).

Don't these officers know that Jackson International Airport (yes, the correct name of the facility) is legally Jackson, MS and therefore they are not allowed to chase fleeing criminals onto the property? Kenny will be have a news conference from the airport very soon.
Since that location is an interstate highway with two lanes in each direction, I'm trying to understand how they passed each other and (almost ran the officer off the road). Maybe the 'felonious fleer' was headed in the same direction as Picou and overtook the officer's vehicle.
This sounds like a lot of fun for a witness to watch.
Perhaps he saw your footage of the entire trigger happy RCSO mag dumping into that deranged dude in Pelahatchie and thought to himself...
What do we say to death? Not today!
??? "Trigger happy RCSO " ????
This fool should have been well ventilated long before he made it to the airport. Of course, bleeding hearts like 2:52 are all anti-police until some shit eater like this takes out one of his family members.
@3:09
I'm not a bleeding heart and I saw the footage that Kingfish posted of the standoff that 2:52 is referring too The amount of lead that the RCSO put into that man's corpse was excessive.
Sorry you got triggered.
What seems like a lot of lead on the back end may not seem so on the front end when that is your skin out there confronting the violent individual. I will never judge a law man legally neutralizing a threat until I put myself out there to protect you fools which I never intend to do.
Comin' round the bend out of Morton it's kind of a blind curve to the right heading west just before you hit The Straights of Pelahatchie, and the man is always gonna be right there on the right hand shoulder, waitin' on ya.
If I was a front seat passenger in a vehicle and I thought the driver was suffering from a mental episode, I would do something that seems to elude otherwise reasonable thinking passengers, I would reach over and turn off the key switch.
In Rankin County, they’ll hit you with a felony fleeing charge for pulling out of the Walmart too fast.
Excessive? Trigger happy? What pussy comments.
A Rankin Sheriff Deputy or a Rankin Senator, both win the day at the Jackson Airport.
Scoreboard!
