Update: Taylor was free but not for long. The Fibbies swooped in and got him for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm on March 27. The affidavit provides more information about the murder. It is posted below.
A murder suspect was put back on the street in Jackson. Cedric Taylor posted bond of $100,000 on March 19. JPD arrested Taylor on March 6 for the murder of Dewan Fortner.
Police found the body of Dewan Fortner behind a vacant building in Bolton. He died from a gunshot wound to the head. He left behind eight children.
However, Taylor benefitted from June's Justice. Jackson Municipal Court Judge June Hardwick set his bond at $100,000 for the murder charge and $25,000 for the charge of convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Taylor posted bond on March 19 and was released from jail although he is required to wear an ankle monitor.
Kingfish note: No complaining. This is what the people of Jackson want. They voted for these low bonds.

The last time that I checked, $100,000 + $25,000 = $125,000.
This means that someone had to pay the bondsman $12,500 (10%), AND put up collateral for the balance. The collateral typically means a home.
So did "auntie," "grandma," or his "mama" put up her home?
It's a blessing to live in Hinds County. Yes, indeed, a blessing (for the criminals).
Nope.
Here is how it works.
Bondsman comes in, bond is posted. He accepts the 10% or whatever it is on an "installment plan" from the suspect. Think that installment plan is ever fully paid?
Nope, it requires collateral, because if they skip bail the bondsman has to pay the full amount of the bond to the surety company.
Now if the bondsman wants to accept the 10% in payments, well that is on him.
Is it bondsperson publicly disclosed KF?
Wasn't Mississippi previously cited by the ACLU, the NAACP, and the Obama DoJ for using high dollar bonds and fines as a method of racial discrimination by keeping poor African Americans incarcerated for long periods of time?
White supremacy is the cause the crimes of social justice and and white supremacy unjustly imprisons men and women of color for much longer periods of time. These judges are merely trying to break the chains created by institutional racism of the past that worked to destroy African American family.
The. Purpose. Of. Bond. Is. Not. To. Punish. (repeat until it sinks in)
@10:04 AM - True, but a bond is to:
1. Ensure the defendant makes ALL of his required appearances.
2. Ensures that the public is not at risk.
The more serious the crime, i.e. potential for significant incareration, the more likely a defendant will skip bail.
The more serious the crime, the more potential for the public to be at risk.
Thus, the high bail. Murder is the most serious of offenses, so $20,000 is a joke.
@9:40am
Please explain to me how I, as a white middle aged male, am to blame for this particular crime. How did i force the suspect to shoot another human in the head thus ending that person's life.
I'll wait.
The national average for a murder suspect is....the vast majority of murder suspects do not receive the chance to bail out. When they do, it is usually $1 million.
I guess we know what value the judge puts on black lives (mostly black on black murders in Jacktown). Black lives matter indeed.
@2:19, the post you referred to blamed white supremacists and you took offense. Maybe you, as a white supremacist should reconsider your thoughts on race relations and judge people by their actions instead of their skin color. This may seem a shock to your system, but not all minorities are rapists and murderers and the sooner you and your white supremacist friends realize that, the better we will be as a state. Good luck to you on your journey to redemption.
Anyone charged with murder may very well pose a danger to the public, which is adequate reason to deny bond. The judge should make that call, whether a prosecutor is able to articulate that or not.
Wow....it appears that Ridgeland places a much higher value on black lives. $1,000,000 bail versus $10k or $20k. Jackson is a freaking joke. Get out while you can.
Who cares, 9:40? Being CITED by the ACLU or NAACP is meaningless. Just as being CITED by the EEOC is meaningless. None of the three has any enforcement power whatever. There is good money in inciting racial strife and the goal of all three is to do that.
It would be just as disastrous to be CITED by the Lions Club, the Chef at Parlor Market or the Boy Scout troop taking donations in front of Kroger.
