Should the Mayor go?

A Jackson group wants to get really get rid of the Mayor.  They don't want to get rid of Mayor Tony Yarber but instead want to abolish the office of the Mayor itself.  WAPT reported last night:

What would it matter. The same people who elect the city council elect the mayor.

I think a City Manager is the way to go. We have nothing to loose at this point. The problem is---what qualified (black or white) person would want to step in this pile of dog s---! No well educated, properly trained individual can work for our City Council because they are the ones who delivered the pile of dog s---.

HELP HELP HELP

A capable manager, who negotiates a good contract (kinda like when a university hires a football coach - cut the deal when they need and want you, not after you have started doing the job) could come in and straighten up a lot of this mess.

Contract would have to let the manager have some authority without interference - hiring/firing, mostly firing so that he could right size the staff; prioritizing spending; shutting down functions; collecting bills, etc.

Give manager a minimum term guarantee and make the contract results based (and not 'results based' like the Seimens contract with no results and no damages included). Its either let the city go to this format, or let the state take it over and do basically the same thing for them.

Nothing to "loose". Here we go again.

I have the man for the job. J'Quantis Brown. The name just oozes respectability!

When J'Quantis' momma named him, she set him up for a lifetime of success and achievement.

Gather signatures, conduct a campaign and hold an election, get wrapped around yet another axle, blah, blah, blah, blah. None of it matters.

Jackson, its citizenry, its murderers, its voters, its school system joke, its water thieves, its office blowjob loving politicos, its disappearing taxpayers, are beyond the tipping point and can't fix any of it themselves.

Jackson is lost.

All we have now are good memories of what Jackson USED to be like which was a place that we were proud of. Now it is an example of what a city SHOULD NOT DO in order to be successful. It was a proud city at one time and as I said I have many good memories of the former city as it was. I really am sad to see so much work and effort by so many former citizens and former leaders of the past be thrown away.

A "city manager" is coming soon. He/she will be called the "emergency city manager" as appointed by the Governor. He/she will recommend the filing of Chapter 9 as authorized by the legislature. The Mayor will not be involved in any of this.

Just fold it into Hinds County.

geez..ok..take your best shots...i have lived in Jackson since 1955 so i am DAMN qualified to say this. Jackson has become a third world shit storm run by a bunch of retards that don't have enough sense to come in out of the rain. I have moved north and believe me it was the best thing ever. I have witnessed MY town become something that is revolting and putrid and broken. And those of you that pretend things are just fine deserve what you get. over and out....

Many years after Frank Melton and still no one has introduced a bill for re-call of elected officials.

As long as the manager will have the power to declare "Fried Chicken Day!"

The Council, some vendors and those wanting to be Mayor will never let this happen. They only want what is good for them and could not care less about the city or its people. But lets be frank ( no pun intended) most politicians are like this including our state officials. Examples are SLRP and campaign finance laws that legalize kickbacks.

....campaign finance laws that legalize kickbacks.

Point out in the law where kickbacks are legalized.

7:30, Funny how people that "move north" remain obsessed with running the city down every chance they get.

If you have moved on, then move on.

Kickbacks are not part of campaign finance laws and can't be fit in them. More importantly - they are already illegal and we'll defined in current law. It's called the Corrupt Practies Act. Just what do you think needs to be refined about kickbacks being illegal?

Anonymous said...

Kickbacks are legal. They just get a new name for them. Everyone has heard of the mentor program. What do you think that is? What about the minority requirements?
People will never get rid of kickbacks.

Anonymous said...

The mentor program is not practiced by the legislature - just the City of Jackson. Our Mayor has brought it full frontal during his two years of office.

And yes, you are correct - its just a new name/process for what has always before just been simply named what it was. A kickback.

10:46 Its called converting "political contributions" to personal use. Mississippi law allows it. You must have fallen asleep last winter when the CL had numerous articles and editorials concerning this practice.

Anonymous said...

3:05, just another way of saying kickbacks. Ms. law may allow it but the people didn't vote on it. It was a way politicians see to steal money. Guess theft would be a better word for it than kickbacks.

Anonymous said...

4:38 - kickbacks are illegal. What you and 3:05 refer to is questionably legal. But still you have not shown where this consultant or anybody connected with it has ever made a campaign contribution to anybody in MS. Nor have you shown where the people that voted to hire this consultant has ever converted campaign funds to personal use.

The CL articles you refer to did discuss a few politicians - all republicans if I remember correctly. Didn't mention the worst offender, our AG Jim Hood. Or any of the black caucus members of the legislature although they are bad not to ever report expenditures or receipts for their campaign accounts. And - most all of them are employed as "consultants" anyway.

5:55, when a person starts accusing the other party I become uninterested. Both parties are guilty. If you are a person of voting age you should have already have learned this.

We do not have to prove anything. It is all kickbacks. The politicians change the name so it will sound better than theft.

You can call a turd by many names but that doesn't make it anything else.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
