She gone!

It takes some kind of balls to demand thirty days severance pay after you burn $35 million dollars on trips to Morton's and fruit arrangements.

But that's the "I'm the Queen" mentality for you.

Dr. Myers served honorably and her tenure resulted in many advancements for JSU and the state.

Anonymous said...

It is time to leave DOCTOR. You done spent all our money.

@7:24 pm, Thanks Dr. Myers for your years of service. Leave the keys on the counter.

The money's gone and so am I !!!!!

JSU = Just a Shi__y University

Well, it's back to the drawing board for the IHL. They'll start another nationwide search for a well-heeled puppet to come in and enrich themselves and their friends while keeping JSU in the secondary position they have set for it. In five years the puppet will realize the true potential of the university and start to map a different course but won't get any financial support and he/she/it will be fired or resign for "financial mismanagement" and the whole thing starts over again. Round and round we go...

Anonymous said...

7:24, bullshit... she was lousy.
You say goodbye. I say good riddance.

Anonymous said...

Personally, I liked her. She made great changes in the face of JSU. She is an excellent role model for women. She has class and she has game. I guess the problem is still: 50% of the faculty don't like change.

Would someone explain this to me - Oboma is giving away student loans like Trick or Treat candy and these clowns go broke. How does that happen?

Anonymous said...

Fix Obomacare? OK, its like this - suppose that everything you need to meet your goals could be found in New Orleans. So they pass this law that heads us up I-55 toward Memphis. We are just about to Batesville now. If we click the heels of our red slippers together we would instantly be in Jackson. Democrats say 'just turn here and we'll get there.' Republicans say 'We have gone 170 miles in the wrong direction. Put the red shoes on.'

And the IHL was consumed with getting rid of Jones. Morons.

Bye bye Felecia. Leave your Zsa Zsa Gabor wig you bought with JSU funds on the door knob on da way out

Obama is giving away student loans and these clowns go broke!?

Ignorance is bliss for too many people in this state!

On to the next matter of business time to break-up the 3 remaining HBCU's in Mississippi and stick'em under the big 3 (Ole Miss, Miss State, Southern Miss) - book it! The IHL has been plotting for this for years! Its going to happen!

"She has class and she has game".....

Try putting that on a resume. Clown.

Didn't you mean to also include, "She Cool"?

Don't cry for her, Argentina. I'm certain she has plenty of money stashed away.

Merge all state schools into one.

Cut costs now.

I think that she should be put under house arrest until the $33,000,000.00 dollars is accounted for.

Anonymous said...

Attn 8:14 Don't put her under house arrest, she lives in the presidents home at Jackson State (public housing)

There for 5 years and $33 million missing. Sounds like a good role model for women. Everyone should have such a woman in their family. NOT

Norfolk State University president Carolyn Meyers, whose leadership has been criticized in recent months, will resign effective June 30.

We Shall Overcome said...

As soon as the Willie Simmons crowd can gain a majority, which won't be in his lifetime or mine, DSU will become an ancillary school under Valley, Southern will report to Alcorn and....well....you get the idea.

Anonymous said...

Of course she did good things for the University, she burned through about $30m in reserve cash. Show me $30m worth of "good" and I'd let her keep her job.

Anonymous said...

They need to find out where she has hidden the money. The HBCU's need to be dissolved. We don't have any universities that we can not allow them to attend. The way the current and former presidents of JSU have run it in the ground. The diploma is worthless.

Anonymous said...

@ 11:59 Ignorance. HBCUs are open to all, and they always have been. HBCUs were established because whites would not let blacks attend their universities, not the other way around. How inane of you to suggest the dissolution of these fine educational institutions because of your lack of understanding. And yes, I'm a product of several HBCUs and Ole Miss - I treasure the education and experiences I received at every single one of my institutions of higher learning.

Anonymous said...

11:59 said 'The diploma is worthless.' In the real world business owners use their own experience to decide about colleges. All the consultants, test scores, rankings, etc. amount to nothing when compared with actual experience of hiring several graduates from a school and having them work for you. And then the word gets around from business owner to business owner.
At different times in her career my wife had two secretaries with degrees from JSU. For the first one, they had to stop allowing her to write letters. Even simple letters. Because of her poor spelling and grammar. The second one was not capable of stuffing envelopes properly and this task was taken away from her. That is, she could not correctly match the name on the envelope with the name on the letter and get it right every time.
Others will write and say that have had good experience with JSU grads. That's fine. Two is a very small sample size. I do not pretend they would all be incompetent.
My point is that where it matters, all college from MS Valley to Harvard, are not evaluated by rankings in a magazine or their advertising slogans but by the real world performance of their graduates.

"All the consultants, test scores, rankings, etc. amount to nothing when compared with actual experience of hiring several graduates from a school and having them work for you."

I know what you mean, I've encountered the same issues with young people who were graduates of Ole Miss, Miss State, and Southern Miss

15 ACT Scores Are Worthless said...

The reason for establishing what you people like to call HBCUs is irrelevant fifty years later. The point is they are no longer needed. They operate and exist primarily as islands of black retreat. The forerunners of what we now call 'Safe Spaces'. The thought process is: Where can I get in college that will look like where I went to high school? To deny that is preposterous.

If we are going to live and work together, why keep on pushing black kids into these little islands and pretending they are 'real world'?

I have recruited, interviewed, screened, vetted and hired hundreds of people, probably thousands. The only white applicants and employees I ever hired with degrees from Jackson State had gone there as a minority (with a grant) and needed a degree simply because it was a requirement of the job (or the promotion they sought) and it was simple to attain.

I won't go into any detail about black applicants/employees with degrees from HBCUs as that's not the point. The point is these bastions of separatism and holdovers from notions of slavery are a drain on the state economy and are not needed in any demonstrable way today. If you think they are, please cite your reasoning.

Anonymous said...

12:49 - Amen!

You are correct that business will not use a school if they have been burned more than once. Universities have shot themselves in the foot chasing more dollars and students. When most degrees are worthless in the market place the university and the student should share the blame…when you major in basket weaving don't be surprised when the best job you can find is flipping burgers.

Anonymous said...

@ 15 ACT...You people? That's rich.

They may not be "needed" in the sense that blacks are no longer barred from PWIs as they were for most of the history of the United States, I'll give you that. But you are suggesting - or outright declaring - that now these institutions which have histories just as rich as any other institution in this country should be abolished because...why? You've tired of their existence? So you want the millions of folks who have graduated from HBCUs to just allow their beloved institutions to be disbanded because you think they're separatist? Ha!

People choose HBCUs for a wide variety of reasons just like they choose PWIs for a wide variety of reasons. Sure, some do want schools that mirror their high school experiences. A kid who grew up in a predominantly white area may choose to go to Ole Miss because it feels like home just as a kid who grew up in a predominantly black area might choose JSU because it feels like home. But to say that's why students choose HBCUs is short-sighted. I actually chose my undergraduate alma mater because it gave me a different experience than my suburban existence. You sound as though you've never actually been on an HBCU campus and are just regurgitating something you heard...somewhere.

If any child thinks that college is the 'real world,' they've got bigger problems than their choice of schools. Are you purposely being obtuse?

Bastions of separatism? Hmmm. HBCUs - anyone welcome since establishment. Ole Miss - as an example, only admitting blacks since 1962. Mississippi State and USM? Since 1965.

A drain on the state economy? As they continue to turn out excellent scholars who are productive tax-paying members of society...what are you talking about? If you want to reduce the number of state supported institutions of higher learning in this already grossly uneducated states, why are you suggesting the HBCUs as opposed to UM, MSU, USM, DSU, or MUW? Only one reason I can surmise. Now you cite your reasoning.

It's okay to not like HBCUs because they educate black folks in numbers larger than PWIs. Really, it is. But to come in here and suggest they need to be abolished or that they are separatist in nature or that they drain Mississipi's "resources" is disingenuous. Just say what you mean. You're in the right place for it.

Anonymous said...

2:42, Amen. And amen.

Anonymous said...

2:42 -- Many HBCU's need to be shuttered, along with many PWI regional public schools, because they do an objectively poor job preparing students for careers.

You're absolutely right about the rich history. You're 100% correct about the different perspective. But higher ed is bloated and overpriced in comparison to the value added. And a major reason (in Mississippi particularly) is the massive redundancy. We simply cannot afford to fund multiple, mediocre-or-worse, redundant programs simply because some people have fond memories of them.

Now if someone proposes shuttering ONLY black colleges, I'll agree with you that their motives are highly suspect. Schools like DSU and MUW also need to be on that list.

And further, the legacy of all HBCU's should be honored. But right now, USM, MSU, and Ole Miss do a vastly better job educating black students. I'll even agree that JSU has a role as Mississippi's urban university, although it clearly is in need of major rehabilitation.

But let's be real here: Valley and Alcorn are relics of the past. They produce demonstrably worse outcomes than other state schools.
They, along with DSU and MUW, should be museums, not operating universities.

Anonymous said...

Valley does not have that 'rich history' you talk about. It was created in the 50's and doesn't have any real value that it adds to the system. It's student population is on a constant decline and all it takes to get into it is to be able to write your name on the ACT answer sheet. To call it an HCBU is a real stretch especially when considering its reason for being.

The W should not be maintained as a state supported school. I realize its alumni have a real strong feeling about that but just like Valley its reason for being no longer exists. If a private college would take it over the state should give it to them - and let them continue it either as a Woman's college or coed, their choice. But get the state out of the business of having its small student population next door to MSU.

Wouldn't argue with 4:21 about DSU and Alcorn either - just depends on whether the legislature has the balls for two to start with or to jump all in for the four.

She knows how to run a Institution Of Higher Learning in a dumbed down state. Even with her hands ties like they were she showed the white power structure the class way to do things. SHE HAD CLASS!!! Something yall need to learn about. She did things with style and I was proud to see her LEADING the way. If she had had a budget to work with she could have done even more good. I for one am proud to call her my MENTOR and she is a ROLE MODEL to children. She showed them that HARD WORK pays. She sacrificed to come to Mississippi to lead the way at one of the best colleges in the country. I will applaiude her every day and appreciate all of her hard work.

Anonymous said...

7:18, one question. Where did the $35 million go? She must have ignored everything that was going on right in front of her or was part of the theft. She either let other people steal millions or she was part of it.
You should look for another mentor. Sounds like she was the same class of mentor as the city of Jackson seems to find.

Anonymous said...

Yes, she sure showed that white power structure the class way. And yes, she did it in absolute style - eating and drinking at the finest, expecting the cops to serve as a personal driver service and after spending the expense account and appropriations, spend the reserves to make sure that the style kis kept up and the white power structure learns its lesson.

Don't know what kind of 'budget' she needed to work with in order to do 'even more good' because its hard to figure out where the 'good' started.

A great role model - ignore your budget, spend whatever is around. Make the whitey come up with more. That's a great role model.

And her sacrifice is hard to measure considering her having resigned from her last position.

But since you measure JSU as one of the best colleges in the country, I guess should have ignored your applause since your ability to measure is obviously tainted.

When you are PRESIDENT of a college you are a ROLL MODEL for others. you are supposed to live well and be doing well. That includes eating at nice places so other people can SEE that you are SUCCESSFULL. NO ONE else on here is or has been the PRESIDENT of a MAJOR college so you would not know how to conduct yourself in that roll. You must SHOW and DEMONSTRATE class at all times. She resigned to accept another job as PRESIDENT of another college BECAUSE of her leadership of JACKSON STATE UNIVERCITY.

Thank you 8:37 for your well thought out justification for the waste of $30 something million. Need to be seen eating at nice places - so that people will see that you are important. Hell, she should have been wearing a robe. Or at least a formal dress, and only accompanied by people in tuxes!

And if you believe that she resigned at JSU to move on to another presidency, then maybe you should try to move with her, ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU ARE SO GOOD AT TYPING IN ALL CAPS to make your point!

Gilligan Was Left On The Island said...

2:42 spent a lot time making the points already made by 15 ACT and all she added, really, was the naturally reflexive comment about 'you people' (a card well played knowing what the reaction would be).

But, if she feels real good about continuing to convince black children they need to 'stay on the island' after the ship has left shore, let her go for it. After all, that's exactly what Jesse and Al do.

Continue chattering about 1950 and 1963 while failing to understand that was sixty five years ago. Let these kids leave the plantation. Let them go. Free their souls. Either let them soar or let them splatter when they attempt to take-wing. Like all other kids. Where else in the 'real world' is an institution primarily defined by color? That's the hallmark of these floundering HBCUs.

'Real World'...Yes. What is NOT real world is a black island with black leadership, black staff, a total black alum base, black projects, black goals, black inspiration, black symbols and black history. Join the 'real world'. And the real world you keep moaning about is NOT 1960 - Nor will you find it at one of these islands of 'scholars'.

What is a PWI? Have you been on the State or Southern campuses lately. Go visit. Get off the island and go visit. I haven't been on the Ole Miss campus in thirty years, but I guarantee you if you go visit MSU or USM, you will see as many black students as white and probably MORE.

She "expect(s)" to receive one month's salary (on top of accrued benefits) for not working (resigning, in fact). Put another way, she "expect(s)" the people of Mississippi to pay her 1/12th of a six-figure salary from their pockets for 30 days of not working - in accordance with JSU policy. Do other universities do this also? No wonder they are burning through money.

Anonymous said...

Maybe people will read this thread and learn something. Certain people believe they should be able to take something that is not rightfully theirs and use it in any way they want. Especially if it is used to try to fool people into thinking you are something that you definitely are not.
Working and doing the job is not the important thing. Looking good while doing nothing and trying to impress people with low morals is what matters.

Anonymous said...

I hope that the IHL has the discretionary ability to decide on the extra $20k she wants and denies it. Perks are big enough already: a million dollar house, no living expenses, and over a quarter million salary. Nice retirement benefits and great expense account. What has she done in five years to deserve a departure bonus of over $20k? Don't know of other state jobs that get that with five years service.

If that was a parody, then it was BRILLIANT! Everything from the cliche of minority showboating ("That includes eating at nice places so other people can SEE that you are SUCCESSFULL"), to the misspelling of 'Role','Successful', and 'University' (you spelled them 'Roll', 'Successfull', and 'Univercity'), really paints a vivid picture, of a tiny mind occupied with grandiose thoughts. Kudos to you, if this was written as intentional humor.

Oh, and I forgot the best part: "MAJOR college". Thanks, for brightening my day!

I think IHL and Jackson Public Schools should investigate those under qualified CFO's like Troy Stovall and Michael Thomas.

An investigation should definitely be done considering the large surplus's these institutions had that vanished while these persons were in the finance department.

The investigation should continue DFA and the State of Mississippi as well. The out of control reckless financial management is destroying the these public institutions.

Mississippi is a mess!!!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
