The Madison Police Department issued the following statement:
Student found with Firearm at Madison Central High School
On Thursday, October 20, 2016, at approximately 8:35 AM, the Madison Police Department received information that a 15 year-old male student at Madison Central High School was in possession of a handgun in his backpack. Officers responded to the school, detained the student and secured the firearm. The firearm was identified as a .22 caliber Colt 1911 semi-automatic pistol. The firearm was not loaded and there was no ammunition in his possession.
The student was removed from the school. The preliminary investigation revealed the student had not made threats towards individuals or fellow students. The student has been charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Minor on School Property. He was transported to the Yazoo County Detention Center pending his appearance in Madison County Youth Court.

One of those emo kids with mommy issues? Also white.
Hundreds of kids pack @ JPS daily.
You know how those "loose women" in Madison are. They cause the children to have issues
Yazoo County Detention Center? Why is that?
11:20 They do at Madison Central as well.
Hey, I wanna know about how to find out more about these loose Madison women 11:23 is talking about. But I don't want the baggage of a bad kid. Where y'all findin' 'em?
11:20 That's some nice deflection you got there. Must be tough for you to accept that there are gun-toting thugs at MCHS. Prayers 4 u
I Would Die 4 U
MCHS = A, all the JPS High Schools D or F. Must be tough for you to accept that JPS schools are garbage. Too bad 4 U.
Any thought to the kid being bullied and felt like he needed to protect himself?
When I was in high school half the kids had rifles or pistols in their vehicles in the parking lot. Bringing an unloaded pistol would have been frowned upon, but they wouldn't have mobilized the f***ing police.
Times certainly have changed.
11:31 - It's because Madison County has no facilities for housing juveniles.
1:34, not much help when you don't have any ammo for the gun. Might as well carry a rock.
Sad story in sad times. But speaking of happy times, how much longer before the Costco opens?
1:34
It's called Columbine and Sandy Hook.
Check out the new fight video from JPS... What the heck are those girls so upset about that they risk getting their weaves ripped out? Ugh!
I know this family and the kid is no thug. Just didn't think period! Don't make assumptions you know nothing about!
3:32. The facts say the kid brought a gun to school. Did he intend to shoot someone? Himself? That teacher who 'gave' him a lower grade?
Lock him up for a few years in Juvenile Detention Center. We don't need a Columbine here...
3:32, stupid is no excuse.
You can feel very safe about your kids in Madison. Until they turn about 12. Then they face the same issues that all teens face and no amount of brick columns changes that. Takes a lot of prayer to raise a teenager.
3:22. "He's a good kid. Goes to church and sings in the choir. Loves his mother.". i think we've heard that before. the we don't know argument. it does not work in jackson and it does not work in madison either...
What did I miss? Please tell us what an 'emo kid' is? I'm always willing to learn from you Niknar guys.
I thought with open carry that students could carry guns to school.
1911 Colt.22 conversion? Not cheap.
Hey 5:25 guess your perfect and don't make mistakes. Real people make mistakes sometimes huge ones. Why instead of judging this kid and family why don't we pray for them!!
This student probably does come from a good family, lives in a nice neighborhood and is a church member. But anyone who knows him knows he has some issues. This is not the first time he’s been in trouble in recent months and not even the first time he’s spent time in Yazoo. Just a few weeks ago he was bragging on SnapChat that he was at an Ole Miss football game while he was supposed to be under home confinement - the result of a drug-related arrest - and spewing expletives at the Madison PD. Coming from a good family does not make him immune to problems and certainly does not mean he shouldn’t be punished. As another Madison parent with a son who has had his fair share of issues I think I am qualified to say - we have to stop trying to fix the problems our kids are getting into and start trying to fix our kids. Our kids need to be forced to accept responsibility for their mistakes and whatever punishments are deemed fair by the schools/court system. Parents need to figure out why their kids are acting out and find a way to help them turn their lives around before it’s too late. Sometimes it’s easier to make a few calls, write a few checks and wash our hands of the latest “uh-oh”. But that is in no way helping our kids grow into responsible adults. And I wholeheartedly agree with an earlier commenter who stated we need to stop judging and start praying.
My son said it was a white male that was a known troublemaker. Got arrested at the school earlier this year trying to sell weed to the janitor. Should have been expelled after that.
6:24--I get it..
Black Kid: throw away the key
White Kid: stop judging and pray
affluenza...the only cure is jail.
1:34 Probably because we don't live in Oregon Trail (the real thing, not the computer game) times anymore, gramps. Did you and your buds have duels after school, too?
6:24 nope I don't judge any color. I am the one that posted that earlier and I see no color I see a world that needs less judging and more prayer. I am pretty sick of the race card being thrown up every time something happens or is said everything is not about the color of your skin it's the condition of your heart.. If you only knew me you know I don't see the color of skin. I am a Madison mom who has kids white/ black etc that call me mom and I love each and everyone of them.
People movin out, people movin in why, because of the color of their skin. Run, run,run but you sho can't hide..Vote for me and I'll set you free...
8:48 It's the "culture" of this blog. It's weird: no posts about this kid's parentage, excerpts from his Facebook page (usually get that person'/ nickname in the blog entry title), the child's home life, or people calling him a thug. And here I thought this place was PC/bedwetter free. Must be a "case by case" basis.
It's also ironic that the mass school shootings haven't been carried out by " thugs" but by those who were " bullied" or who had " a history of mental illness" or came from a " broken home". They were not used as examples to paint an entire race as culturally failing and inferior but victims of a system that didn't " help" the parents deal with problem children.
There's never mention of the white absent, uninvolved father either. It's bad to never marry the mother but ok if you do , leave the mother and start a new family at the expense of your original family.
And, there's no concern about how this young man, who apparently had trouble before, managed to have an " expensive" gun. No one is suggesting he stole it from anyone. It must have magically appeared as all gun owners are responsible.
I hate to break the news to some of you but even in the '50's there were " juvenile delinquents" and babies out of wedlock . Maybe some of you could find some old James Dean or Natalie Wood or young Marlon Brando movies on Netflix and see white teen violence and white troubled youth and white gangs from that era. There are still white gangs by the way. Just ask any prison guard. If a group of white students bully and even kill, that's a " clique" with a someone who is a bad influence not a gang, right?
I'm amazed that none of you knew any " bad seeds" while you were growing up. Some of us remember the kids who were holy terrors and who now are earning lots of money or inherited money and are still bullies and meaner than snakes. We also kids who had it tough and are outstanding citizens in every way.
Could it possibly be time we learned something about raising children, especially when they are adolescents?
11:31 you cannot put a juvenile into the county, or any other, jail. Madison County doesn't have a juvenile detention facility, rather, they lease beds from Yazoo County. a cumbersome arrangement with regard to transport to and from court in Canton, but its been that way for many years.
It's much better to help developers with tax breaks than to do anything to prevent crime like having decent juvenile facilities.
@8:19
I was a general contractor for over 40 years. There were many times that I needed the use of a large excavator on jobs, but this piece of equipment was not needed on a daily or even a monthly basis. For that reason I decided not to purchase an excavator but rather rent one when necessary, or, subcontract the work to someone who owned one. That way I didn't have to incur the expense of maintenance, insurance and other expenses that were ongoing whether the equipment was in use or not. This saved a tremendous amount of money over the years. Do you see the correlation?
By the way, your hatred of the Costco project is showing. Get over it!
4:2, I think you mean, "...no NUMBER of brick columns...", instead of "...no AMOUNT of brick columns...".
And while there's some jackass incessantly braying, on internet fora, about a supposed preponderance of brick in Madison, and a jackass (possibly the same jackass) braying about "fake columns", having one to bray about "BRICK columns" is something new.
Is there someplace in Madison (someplace I've missed), where all these "brick columns" are to be seen? Or have you been reading about the bricks, and about the columns, and combining these disparate lame brays into one giant megalith of ignorance?
GAK!!!
Where's Donner to clear things up and set us straight??
"Attempted to sell weed to the janitor". I'm sure that probably has a place in this story....just haven't found it yet.
Isn't it strange that Madison County 'rents' bed space to many other counties at it's facility on 51 just south of Canton? Yet it then turns around and rents space in Yazoo for the placement of its youth offenders.
And for the General Contractor at 9:32, do you really believe that youth-offenders are rare and far between in Canton? Probably half the Yazoo facility is occupied by the chicken-wing eaters from Canton.
