Fair Follies

And............. another fight breaks out at the Mississippi State Fair:

Just one question: Where are the cops?  I've seen altercations take place at the fair before and the police stopped them real quick - as in thirty seconds real quick.

This (they are) is why we can't have anything nice. All you need is one of them yelling " world star, world star, world star".

Just another day in Jaxistan.

That is exactly why I quit going to the fair many years ago. Out of concern for the safety of our family, a couple of years ago we simply decided to not go into Jackson. For any reason. We haven't missed out on anything.

This isn't a Jackson issue. If the State Fair were in any other city (metro or not) you still would have this activity. I realize that takes away the second most fun talking point on this site, but truth always gets in the way of a good story.

Think if the state fair were moved to Madison, or Brandon, or the Gulf Coast, that there wouldn't still be these same idiots moving in and deciding that a good hair pulling, shouting, and overall brawl wouldn't come into play? Hell, we've seen much better fight scenes on here from Canton; these folks are limited by a wall to west Jackson.

If I remember right Jackson let the fair know they were not going to provide cops for the fair. It is every one for themselves now.

One incident during a span of two weeks. No drama at the Fair during the day.

The animals only come out after dark. I took my family today after church. No problems other than the heat.

Dumbbutt at 7:38 - you don't remember all the facts, evidently just the part you want for your spin.

Jackson has never provided the security for "INSIDE" the fence at the fairgrounds which is where it appears this incident occurred. JPD had always provided service for the area surrounding the fairgrounds - which is an area that is a part of the city of Jackson consisting of roads, streets and highways which it is their duty to service.

The area inside the fairgrounds has always had security provided by off duty deputy sheriffs and off duty JPD officers. That was true for several years, and is true today.

7:43 makes a good point - if this one incident is the only one over a twelve day span, it isn't too bad of a track record. Evidently the security folks down there might be doing a pretty good job

This is far from the only incident that has happened this year at the fair. This is just the only incident that kingfish has posted. And no, this nonsense wouldn't have happened in the surrounding cities. We actually have not only a competent police force, but also a competent judicial system. It helps to keep the Jackson residents on their side of the river.

This took place Friday night.

1. The HCSO and private security handle things inside the fairgrounds. JPD patrols outside the fairgrounds. I was there Friday afternoon around. HCSO had at least 20 deputies present.

2. The best times to go to the fair are during the day and at night, the middle part of the week. Don't go at night when it is pay one price. I went Tuesday night last year. It was very nice, calm, and not the craziness that happens during pay one price where it is crowded and you have to wait 15 minutes or more to get on one ride.

Another example of Jackson keepin' it classy -- what a shithole...

Did these two livestock animals win a blue ribbon?

So, to get this straight, if there was only one carpet-bomb dropped last week, then, on average, everything went right well? What kind of stupid logic is THAT?

And claiming if the fair were in Madison, the same thing would happen is probably correct. Unless you blocked north bound traffic at 55 and County Line, sealed off north bound at County Line and Old Canton and put a special patrol over on State just west of Logan's.

A 'town' standing alone can't become a shit-hole. It's the people there that make it one. A town is just buildings and stuff. It's the residents who make it ghetto.

I'm surprised someone wasn't yelling "WORLDSTAR!!!"

To all of the idiots who avoid Jackson because they believe their bedroom communities are "safer"; you're only contributing to your own demise. Bedroom communities only thrive because they leech off the capital city's resources. Actually read and look across America. If any capital area collapses, the bedroom communities eventually collapse as well. So continue to hide in Madison, Clinton, Brandon, etc. but history shows that if a state and its people refuse to invest in its capital, the bedroom communities fall victim to the poverty, crime, lack of resources for education, and low tax base that also preyed upon the capital area. And that is the future Mississippi you are shaping for your children. Engage, Educate, and Empower.

@9:09 = FALLACY

Must be from Madison County

9.09, 30 years ago maybe but not now.

9:09--that's not true. look at Detroit. There's a small core that's magnificent with world class museums and arts(downtown and the immediate surrounding area.) The rest of it is an urban warzone. Most of the Detroit suburbs are great places to live.

Chicago's South Side is literally engrossed in a war. Walk around downtown Chicago at any time of day or night and it's relatively safe. Again--most of the suburbs are wonderful.

So I think I've shown beyond a doubt that about half (Chicago) to 90percent (Detroit) of an urban core can be like Somalia, but the suburbs can still thrive.

3:09 - while you are sealing off entrances and exits, make sure you seal off I-55 and 51 at Gluckstadt; somehow keep east Ridgeland from moving north as well. Hell, guess you must keep it to the city of Madison - in that case, its not a State Fair but a City of Madison Fair. But then, you couldn't have the rides because they wouldn't fit the building codes. You would have to build a brick fence around it because the chain link at the fairgrounds doesn't look 'nice'.

Keep on living in your world. There are many folks at the State Fair that come from around the state; hope you are not one though, cause we would just as soon you staying in your stucco home in your cookie cutter neighborhood.

Grenada is calling. Open a faux-siding/brick/stucco/urn/cell tower supplier and get rich.

10:38 - claiming that Chicago Southside is half of the city is quite a stretch. And trying to make a comparison of Detroit and/or Chicago to Jackson, or the suburbs of either to the Jackson metro area is even more of a stretch. The population of Chicago is equal to that of the entire state of Mississippi. And most of that population is not in the southside.

Let's blame Obama for this incident as well....

Jackson won't disappear since it's the capitol so will get all kinds of federal bailouts. Might file bankruptcy, but saying Rankin/Madison will die is poppycock.

Anonymous said...

The people of Ms. should move the capital to another city. Jackson cannot get itself out of the hole it is in. There just isn't any quality people left in the city to get it back on it's feet.

Go to a Madison Central pep rally. The snow white cheerleaders and dancers are fawning over the black athletes. Get your head out of your behind. Your 1950s Mississippi does not exist. If you want to get away from black people, move to Idaho.

One reader commented: "There were twenty deputies there Friday afternoon. I'm calling bullshit on that claim!".

The rest of the comment had some problems so it didn't get posted but I will address this one. The Sheriff was walking around that afternoon with four or five deputies around him. There were another ten or twelve huddled up in the Trade Mart (where it was air conditioned) where they were no doubt discussing strategy. Then I saw several more walking around the midway.

So....the 'ten or twelve huddled up in the Trade Mart (where it was air conditioned)' that you just happened to wander into and observe, were considered part of a delegation of twenty deputies patrolling inside the fair-grounds?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
