I came across this touching article while digging around the archives of the Daily Clarion-Ledger. A.B. Smith's B-24 was shot down by the Germans over Belgium in 1944. The Jacksonian and three other crewmen were hidden by a Belgium girl and her family. The 1948 article posted below gives the details of the heroic story. He stayed hidden until the Allies liberated the area. His rescuer visited him and his wife in Jackson when this article was written.

Nice to read and as an American, I am grateful there were good people to help our soldiers escape being POW's. Belgium is now one of the European countries being infiltrated and harmed by too many Muslims of bad intentions now residing there.
Thanks Kingfish.
Great article !
I've just finished reading many accounts of the Dutch in Jackson.
The (Royal Netherlands Military Flying School) was based at Hawkins field from 1942 through 1944.
Those relationships also lasted long after World War II ended.
