Update: The young boy died.
Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
Sunday
morning around 10:30 a.m., a 911 call was placed from Thornton Place,
south of Brandon on Hwy 18, in reference to a seven year old male being
accidentally electrocuted. According to witness statements, the victim
and other juveniles
were outside playing after a rainstorm. The victim was attempting to
unplug a charger for a golf cart when he fell to the ground. The other
juveniles ran to get help from the victim’s mother, who is a nurse. It
is unclear at this time if the ground itself
was charged, due to a lightning strike, or if the juvenile received a
shock while trying to disconnect the charger. None of the other
juveniles were affected, leading first responders to believe the shock
was from the golf cart charger. First Responders
arrived on scene and continued CPR. The victim was taken via Pafford
to Blair E. Batson for treatment.
The juvenile was in critical condition when
transported from the scene. We will not release his identity at this
time due to his age.

Prayers going out for this child and his family!
So tragic. Prayers sent.
While electrocution is typically used and understood to mean death by electrical shock, yes, it can also mean injury caused by electrical shock.
I wonder how many like me thought the young boy was deceased until reading more closely. Hate to get slammed for this opinion, but I think the writer might have clarified up front that the boy was being treated, not deceased.
Prayers for his full recovery.
unfortunately the young sweet smart funny boy did die. Prayers are being requested please.
I have unplugged electric golf carts in the rain no less than 1000 times with no problem.
What could have happened here?
Prayers for this grieving family.
@ 11:16 - I'm guessing it wasn't plugged into a GFI receptacle/breaker.
The chord was unplugged and dropped by the kid in a small puddle of water that he was standing in, is what I heard. Harmless move by the kid not understanding the ways of electricity. So sad and a horrible accident. Pray for his family and the kids at school.
Unbelieveably sad. Parenting is the most demanding job in the world. You know the guilt they must feel at the loss.
I can't understand how a 12V charger can electrocute?
Would a GFI (Ground Fault Interrupt) device trip on a charger?
I been told no death is in vain.
Maybe readers will hug their children more, be more alert, and appreciate that all children are a wonderful gift from GOD.
Hello All,
I am the Uncle of this young man. I have been reading all News updates and am thankful for all of the thoughts and prayers for my sister and her husband during this grieving period. I am not here to comment on any opinions given; however, I would like to clear the air on some information. The accusation that he was unplugging the charger and dropping a live wire into a puddle of water is incorrect. The boy simply grabbed a section of the metal frame on the golf cart which was charged by a fault inside of the charger that lies under the seat, directly on a metal frame. This could have happened to any individual, wise or ignorant of electrical dangers. Luckily his 5 year old sister chose to run for their Mother rather than trying to pull him off; we would have been burying (2) rather than (1) on Wednesday. This tragedy has struck the family with confusion and all kinds of what ifs; but at this time, it would be appreciated if no one would jump to any conclusions about why/how this happened. We shall leave this up to the professionals to continue their investigation.
Thank you
