Greer moves up to the big house

Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves issued the following press release:

GREER TO LEAD LEGISLATIVE BUDGET OFFICE

JACKSON – Legislative leadership today announced to Legislative Budget Office staff that Tony Greer will serve as their new director effective Nov. 21.

Speaker of the House Philip Gunn and Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves hired Greer to oversee the Legislative Budget Office, which assists the Legislature in crafting the state budget each year. Longtime director Debbie Rubisoff recently informed Speaker Gunn and Lt. Gov. Reeves that she will retire by the end of the year.

“Debbie has been a long time public servant, and we thank her for sharing her extensive knowledge of the budget process,” Speaker Gunn said. “I look forward to working with Tony and continuing to streamline agency efficiencies and the budgeting process.”

Greer has been the county administrator for Madison County. He was interim executive director of the Madison County Economic Development Authority.

“Tony will bring a new perspective to state budgeting with his experience in both the public and private sectors,” Lt. Gov. Reeves said.

Greer is a former Hinds County supervisor. He has worked as a certified public accountant and is a certified financial examiner and an accredited insurance examiner. He previously worked as a senior financial analyst at the state Department of Insurance and owned a real estate management company.

“I am truly honored to be working with Speaker Gunn and Lt. Gov. Reeves to keep implementing fiscally conservative policies that save Mississippians tax dollars,” Greer said.

Greer has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Mississippi College. He and his wife, Sharon, have three children.

Congrats to Mississippi. Tony is a fine man. This is Madison County's loss for sure. Hired last January, he was definitely part of the new wave of honesty and good government in Madison County.

Smart move, finally a professional, seasoned, respected CPA is appointed to this very important position. A great improvement on every level.

Don't know the guy. But, if Tate Reeves likes him, that's a big strike against him. Tate, former Florence bank teller turned self-appointed know it all, is dangerous to our state and the Republican Party.

Quality hire! Department heads beware, you won't be able to get any budgetary bullshit past Greer.

I wonder if he will lift that stupid a$$ ban that Debbie has in place on her staff-if SHE is in the room and a legislator asks a question, her staff are not allowed to speak. Who does SHE think SHE is? The Queen Of England?!?!? Bye Debbie!

Another Son of a Gunn.

Great hire. Madison County's loss is the state taxpayers' gain.

This still does not address the "SOURCE" of the problem!! Mississippians do not understand economics. #DeadLast

He is not on the state cpa listing. Did he lose his license?

So, 3:05, the perpetual bitcher/griper, if 'the problem' is that we don't understand economics, would putting a man in this job who DOES not satisfy you? Help me understand your distress. Or do you just want to always bitch and moan? The question is rhetorical.

Wake up 4:17 and get your head out of the sand! We're still 50th and "our" guys are focused on guns (which are beyond safe), bathrooms, and anything else that they can pass to avoid the hard work of getting the state off the bottom. Your attitude is why we allow Republicans for crying out loud to do nothing to help our state improve.

@ 4:17 PM Are you trapped in a fixed mindset? Please take your blinders off! Unfortunately, you are a perfect example of a closed-minded, backward thinking Mississippian.

Best move he could have made....perpetually at the mercy of a third idiot vote on the BOS. He did more for the Madison BOS than any one person in 20 years. Madison's loss.

Tony Greer is a sharp man! Agree with @6:38

The 3rd vote is drawing more and more negative attention. His constituents and others are watching very close.

Has anyone heard of Rosie and Al packing to leave yet?

3:05 and 5:10 and 6:23 (same poster): Your posts make no sense. This thread (nor my post) has nothing at all to do with Mississippi ranking or my mindset. It's all about a competent and well qualified gentleman being put in the position. Come back when you can get a grip on that and when you temporarily lose your democrat anger, which means we'll never hear from you again.

I'm a bit confused. In the body of the release it said Greer is a certified public accountant. But, then it doesn't list more than a business degree.
To be a CPA, you need 30 more hours so there has to be some post graduate work as well as passing all 4 parts of the CPA exam. Where did he do that?

Anonymous said...

CPA website says Greer's CPA license was cancelled.

All Integers Matter said...

6:43 - Learn to read. The release says he 'has worked as a CPA'. Does not say he is a CPA. You tripped over your inference and the point is meaningless to begin with. What degree did the woman who was 'a long time public servant' have? Bitch about something else.

Clearin' It Up.. said...

Greer's biography (google it) posted during his campaign for PSC includes this:

Education
-BSBA in Accounting from Mississippi College
-Certified Financial Examiner

He makes no claim of being a CPA. Shoot another snipe or catch another red herring.

More Donkeycrats scared as hell that Reeves, Gunn, et al, and now Greer, are going to get to the bottom of the bloat and waste in Mississippi state government. All the proof you need is the Donkeycrat calls from their backbenchers to raise taxes.

@ 5.10,You want to blame the republicans for being dead last. We have over 150 years of democratic mess to clean up, won't be done overnight skippy. You donkeys simply amaze me. You controlled this state for ever, kept it at the bottom and then blame the repubs. Wow.

Mr. Greer is a friend and indeed a gentleman. I have never heard whether he is a CPA or not, just business management. Anyway, he is very good in Madison County, was instrumental in Hinds County in changing the direction of the Board of Supervisors. He volunteers his time working with youth. He is civil minded, lovely wife and anything he can do to contribute to better government in Mississippi, he will do. Just give the man a chance and like the President Elect, some do not care for Trump, but he will be our president. Tate Reeves is our Lt. Governor and no amount of venom will change that.

Tate is our next gubner when Feel accepts a post in the Trump Administration. Head of the FBI.

Mama Hamil For White House Chef.. said...

9:43 - Please tell me where you are taking bets so I can get over there quick. I'll wager you half a million dollars to a dozen fresh donuts that Feel will never be on a prospective list for FBI. Can you imagine in your wildest drunken evening thinking that a man with two years as a county deputy sheriff would head up the nation's FBI? That's nuttier than suggesting Mitch Tyner will be Attorney General.

I heard Feel mentioned yesterday for Secretary of Agriculture. I thought Cindy Hide had that in the bag.

Wow, you nerds posting at 5:00am in the morning?? I guess you'll say your getting ready to make Mississippi great again! Please on the 150 years. Talk to me about the last 25 years! What's next, why the Choctaws hurt us? I'm an R who is embarrassed by the R's running this place. Feel B. and Tate and Gunn are amazed (in the paper) that spending has gone up 25% in the last 5 years?? Really?? I'm sorry, tell me again who is passing and signing our approps bills? Yall can try all you want but Jim Hood is the next guv and I think deep down even you guys know it. Oh by the way, Tony Greer is a good guy!

6:43....Greer came through many years before the 150 hour requirement. Also, like almost every CPA I know, once he got out of accounting, he dropped his license. Those dues are expensive and frankly silly since the state accountancy board takes the dues and goes to the convention in Hawaii.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
