Elections and divorces tend to bring out the worst in people and the 2016 Presidential Election was no exception. People are going to get into verbal fisticuffs over candidates. Always have and always will. However, social media has empowered the baser impulses of quite a few people. One particular woman got mad as hell that Mama Hamil dared to put a campaign sign on the property of her business. The horror. A Geilia Taylor was soooo outraged by this display of the First Amendment that she posted this message on Facebook:
Make no mistake, Ms. Taylor is a social media bully. She wasn't mistreated at Hamils. She is not complaining about the food or the service. Wait a second, it appears she may not have even eaten at Hamils but just drove by on Hwy 51. There are more than a couple of businesses in Jackson that probably have Obama signs on the premises but one gets the idea after reading Ms. Taylor's public Facebook page that she would probably not be offended if she saw them.
This is simple voter intimidation. Ms. Taylor is encouraging her friends to punish Mama Hamil for supporting a Presidential candidate. Mama Hamil was not telling diners to vote for Mr. Trump when they placed an order. She did not play Trump commercials over loudspeakers. A sign was simply posted on one end of the property that is not even visible from the restaurant. Mama Hamil has every right to support a Presidential candidate of her choosing and place that sign on her own property. However, such rights are apparently too much for Ms. Taylor to endure. Perhaps she should go watch some video of the Selma march. That was an exercise of the First Amendment as well.
The Kingfish frowns on these types of boycotts. We are now coming to the point that we can't handle simple disagreements but instead have to destroy those with whom we disagree. All Mama Hamil did was quietly voice her support for a candidate. Country Meat Packers advertised on Supertalk and the McDanielites hounded him until he pulled his advertising- something that was truly shameful coming from people who shriek that Obama is taking away their freedom. Jeff Good and The Kingfish probably disagree on almost everything in politics yet I have no problem patronizing his restaurants because he likes what Mr. Good has to offer. I'm going to Bravo for some good food, not to watch Firing Line. Social media has given a power to destroy people and businesses that did not exist until a few years ago and Ms. Taylor's post is a perfect example of such.
The Facebook post was apparently removed after the election. However, show what you think of the post by supporting Mama Hamil's. She will be more than happy to take your money. The Facebook poster in question owes her an apology.

Our society has somehow degenerated into confusing the meaning of "disagree with" to "offended." Sad.
This HRC voter thinks: what a pansy.
We have a bunch of whining idiots who cannot function in the real world. If they ever hit true adversity in life they will crumble.
Here's to the social justice warriors, community organizers and common muckrakers fading away as if a bad memory ... similarly to the last 8 years. They had their moment. Time to move on.
I am a business owner and I voted for Trump as did ALL my employees.
My employees KNOW I only hire republicans.
I Love Hamills and will eat there twice a week now instead of one day.
does this wingnut think for a second this will slow Hamil's business?
I would give up a lot of stuff if we could get rid of social media and a lot the internets has to offer. It multiplies ignorance and give people who are professional complainers a platform and an audience.
All the more reason to eat at Hamils.
I am sorry that you are offended, Ms. Taylor. However, I am rejoicing that a true American was elected president. Maybe you can simply move out of the country like a lot of people say they are going to do. By the way, I bet that all of these people change their minds and stay in the country that Trump is going to make great again.
Every good thing like Twitter and Facebook have the power for good and for destructive behavior. Personally, I might choose to go elsewhere, especially when local business advertise for local politicians on their big signs outside. (I do not mind a variety of push cards at the cash registers)
I believe the person you were quoting was one of the recipients of a large amount on the Siemen's contract. Have never said anything, but I resent paying her unnecessary portion on this.
This sign is located in the right of way of Highway 51 and is in front of a private residence not in front of Mama Hamils Restaurant. The owners of this restaurant are so kind, always helping and giving. Too bad certain others are not more like the Hamil family. I plan on eating at this establishment more and will be doing more catering with them during the upcoming holiday season.
Didn't expect you to match thin-skinned-ness with more thin-skinned-ness, KF.
I mean, I'm certainly not persuaded to avoid Hamill's by her post. The low quality and clientele handle that just fine.
But this is just a person expressing their preferences in the marketplace. You're free to accept it, reject it, or resolve to eat at Hamill's every day as a counter protest.
And while I don't really dig the phrasing of the post, it's pretty reasonable to say, "Hey, you have a choice where to eat. All things being equal, support restaurants that support causes you believe in, and don't support those who oppose them."
I mean, nobody's proposing bombing Hamill's. This is just how the market works.
People who own a business have the right to put any political sign in their property that they want. Customers have the right to buy from the business owner or go to some other business.
Each have a choice to make. It is their choice and not any business of any other person.
Social Justice Warrior needs to be put in time out. Maybe we can send her out to the cities where the riots are happening and leave her there.
/look for a campaign to defame them over on Yelp. They already hit up Fat Tuesday because John Thames dared to criticize Obama on Facebook. Fake reviews hurt the business.
10:57. We've always had true American presidents-even over the last eight years.
This woman is entitled to make her opinions known-whether you agree with them or not. This isn't Soviet Russia or Hitler's Germany.
There has been a lot of angry hateful speech directed at President Obama over the last eight years, and there will be plenty of hateful speech directed at President Trump over the next 4, if not 8.
I'll take freedom with complaints from both sides of the political aisle than the suppression of either.
The owners of Hamils are social conservatives who don't like democrats.
African Americans work and eat there quite a bit.
Gay people eat there without as much as a word being said to them.
Leave these people alone.
Honestly, if that creature managed to cause Hamil's to be boycotted by Clinton supporters, it might be GREAT FOR BUSINESS. Some customers are more trouble than they're worth. And some customers drive away other, better, customers. Being boycotted by such customers is a GIFT, rather than a curse.
That - ahem - "woman" would have been doing Mama Hamil a favor, had she been able to start a boycott among persons similar to herself (I'm pretty sure she didn't/won't/can't).
Private businesses can do as they like. Let the market decide. I know that once I began to see the political hate speech and constant ranting from Tom Ramsey I stopped going to La Finestra. I support his right to rant; but there are possible consequences. Jeff Good gets lots of grief for sticking his neck out on Melton and other political issues and now I think he sees it is better to support Jackson first type of issues rather than particular individuals... but I am only basing that on observation not anything I've heard form him.
Hamils, now I'm hungry......oh wait, I'm suppose to write in regards to this airbag of intelligence.....Ok, I POOP on YOU!!!!
November 10, 2016 at 10:15 AM--
You ONLY hire republicans?
You, sir, are a hypocrite. You're calling out someone for boycotting where the EAT because of their political views. You don't HIRE someone because of theirs.
I can tell you from 39 years in running businesses, that short sightedness will cost you big time in the long run. Lots of folks disagree with me politically. That doesn't mean they won't do a great job.
I will gladly be there tomorrow... Thank You HAMILS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I appreciate YOU very very much!
Oh yes, Madison County is known for its fine cuisine. It is particularly strong in the categories of "Chain" and "Meat & Three."
Continually amazed how Madisonites are too busy patting themselves on the back for living in a banal wasteland that they fail to see what uncultured hayseeds they actually are.
I'm sure Jacksonians are itching to give up Manship, Surin, Walker's, Parlor Market, Surin, 1908, BRAVO, Lou's, Caet, Babalu, Saltine, Iron Horse, Sal & Mookie's, and a host of others so we could be like the pot-bellied dirt clods who populate Mama Hamil's and Georgia Blue daily.
Not to mention Ely's and their menu featuring the greatest hits of the 90s.
Pitiful.
#MamaHamils #NotMyPresident #ImWithHer
Obviously this woman doesn't eat at Tico's. His sign for Trump has been displayed on the restaurant's porch for some time and was still there last night.
Probably Geilia Taylor? Just summed up why Hillary lost.
#theyjustdontgetit #itsameltingpotremember #hypocritemuch
I am pretty sure this woman would not have posted had Hillary won. Has anyone else noted how these politicians are lining up behind Trump and ignoring Hillary. Examples, President and speaker of the house.
Well I walked in the classroom today at Belhaven with my Trump shirt on and boy!!! Did I get some evil looks!
taste that fake conservative outrage....
I wouldn't eat there again. Because they support a sexist racist bigot without the competence to be president. We'll vote with our wallets. Trump supporters are at the bottom of the barrel in society.
Maybe she should packup and go with Al Sharpton to another country.
Attn 1:50 Wearing a Trump shirt at predominantly black Belhaven College is pretty gutsy!!!
I wish someone would put a Trump sign in fromt of Char.
Those that promote social change and tolerance are the ones most resistant to social change and tolerance. I.E. the election of Trump
It is their way or no way - no working together or coming to a mutually agreed compromise.
3:52 & 12:29,
Sooooo, you would rather not dine with the help?????
It is simple, minorities just have to organize and "take their country back"
That sign is on the HWY 51 easement not on the property
No one knows how Ma Hamil voted unless they were in the voting booth with her.
I put a Vote for Hillary sticker on my ass. Do you know who I voted for???
I stayed up till two AM until Penn. came in with the Kingfish blog which was the 1st election I ever paid close attention to.
GOD bless America
reading all of ms taylors bedwetter bs made me hungry. i m headed to hamils.
Personally, I like butter beans.
Not to forget recently when a handful of gender confused bedwetters called for a national boycott of Chic-fil-A and if the reports are accurate corporate Chic-fil-A is having a hard time counting the billions and billions of $$$ in increased profit as a result of said boycott. Hell, on any given day (except Sunday) the drive thru line at any of their locations in the metro area are 30 cars deep. Hamils should be so lucky.
I'm with 9:27.
Butter beans are the best.
Geila Taylor is a douche. Always has been, appears always will be. She's been annoying people around her for years.
10:15 - What's the name of your business? That way I can make sure not to spend any money on your products or services. Do you screen your customers as well? I sure hope so, heaven forbid you take any money from Democrats. Are you going to put out an email like the CEO of Grubhub who told any employee who voted for Trump to resign? How about your outside accountants, lawyers, financial planners, insurance agents, mechanics, etc? Just a wild guess, but you also sound like the kind of guy who doesn't like his waiter to be gay. I'm sure you also have a way to figure that out.
" Always have and always will" KF?
Sorry but well mannered people never have and never will.
It used to be a low class thing to do but apparently being ill mannered and ornery is " in".
I'm a big fan of meat and threes but stopped going to Hamil's years ago. The last straw was a line of huuughh people reaching over there bellys to shovel food from the buffet onto their plates. Not a pretty sight.
Like 9;08 I have never been a Hamil's fan, I eat their every blue moon, I didn't vote for Trump and I think you are going to have a hard time finding anybody who voted for him in 6 months. I still wouldn't tell people to boycott Hamil's because they supported a moron.
Hamil's is not a 'Meat and 3'. It's the best "Meat and 12" in the state.
LOL - make that a Meat and 12 TIMES 2 OR 3!
Johnny Weir: You might want to refresh your knowledge of Rights of Way, Gross Easement and Appurtenant Easement. Not all disallow the placement of a temporary small political yard sign. It varies.
But that's not at all the point here. The point is the right of a person to express their political preference without being threatened by some yahooo of a different opinion. If the business suffers (which it won't) as a result, that's the risk they took.
The register will actually ring louder now. If democrats quit showing up, good. I look forward to not having to stand behind so many in line at lunch. They can clean out an entire buffet in pretty short order.
2:05, I don't care one way or the other but your post makes no sense. If less people show up to eat how will the cash register ring louder? Think a little bit before posting. You will not be thought of as a fool so often.
9:43....How do you reach the conclusion that fewer people will show up to eat? You obviously can't connect dots or extricate yourself from the maze. Fewer democrats may show up (although I doubt it), but, if they do, that will draw other customers like flies.
I'm sure I'm not the Lone Ranger in that I no longer go to any of the oriental buffets. I can't fight that crowd of 'democrat plate pilers'. If their numbers were to shrink, business would actually increase. And fewer food would be left on plates piled high. Pay attention to the world around you. It will pay off. Or maybe not. And learn to think things through before you start keyboarding. Later.
Common sense will tell a person less customers mean less profit. A paper route will teach a kid that. Some people never have a job that depends on customers or do not understand it takes customers to make a profit.
Must work for the govt.
Pay attention, 3:49. The result of democrats boycotting Hamils will be increased traffic. Can you really not get that or are you just kidding?
Do you actually believe removing half of the population of the U.S. from a list of customers will cause an increase in customers?
There must be a lot of posters on here that work for the govt. More likely there are a lot of posters who do not work and depend on others to support them.
9:52 - You have just qualified yourself for the dunce squad. If you think half the customer base at Hamils is democrats, you need to turn in your apron at Wendys.
This has not one damned thing to do with who works or who depends on government support. WTF are you smoking?

MAMA HAMIL'S...
I'd like to encourage my FB friends, listeners, Christians, Patriots and Rednecks to make an effort to patronize Mama Hamil's in Madison Ms sometime over the next week.
As you know Hamil's last week was the subject of a on-line boycott request for having a Trump sign on property facing Hwy 51.
Let's show some love for fellow travelers who are being singled out by Democrats bullies.
Please share this request if you would....
Thanks, "Radio Strongman"

4:38, you sound very much like the democrats who lost the election because they had tunnel vision. The U.S. is about equally divided between democrats and republicans. Personally I think both are wrong. If you thing banning either political party from a business is going to increase the customer base you should have a talk with Hillary.
10:20....Who mentioned anything about 'banning either party from a business'? Nobody. Who mentioned anything about the division in the United States between democrats and republicans? Nobody. The discussion here is about a local business and its rights to express political opinion - not national demographics or banning customers. Pick up your complimentary hi-liter and key chain at the door.
I agree completely with the right of the owner to put any sign they want on their property. I fought to make sure they kept that right.
The part I think is funny is the people who insist fewer customers make for bigger profits. Those who cannot understand that are sort of funny also.
