MHP launches "Line to Line" campaign.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued the following press release:

The Mississippi Highway Patrol will kick off the 2016 Thanksgiving Travel Enforcement Period with a safety awareness initiative implemented by the Public Affairs Division. “Line To Line” will be conducted on Wednesday, November 23rd, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Interstate 55. Due to an increase in traffic fatalities and anticipation of heavy holiday traffic, State Troopers will patrol I-55 from the Tennessee State Line to the Louisiana State Line. This high visibility safety initiative is designed to ensure safe holiday travel for motorists and combat reckless driving along with speeding and distracted driving issues. The official MHP 2016 Thanksgiving Travel Enforcement Period also begins on Wednesday, November 23rd at 6 p.m. and will conclude Sunday, November 27th at midnight. MHP investigated 221 crashes including 4 fatalities during the 2015 Thanksgiving enforcement period. Safety checkpoints will be conducted by troopers in order to enforce child restraint and seatbelt laws while also removing impaired drivers. We urge motorists who are preparing to travel on the roadways to include safe driving as part of their plans.

In response to the Mississippi Highway Patrol's "Line to Line" campaign, please adjust your trafficking routes away from Interstate 55 in Mississippi from 10 a.m. Wednesday November 23 through 7 p.m. Sunday, November 27th as the MHP has so graciously telegraphed its intent to abandon the rest of the state's highways to saturate I-55 with troopers.

@9:23 Well said !
I appreciate our law enforcement officers and am so very thankful for their service and sacrifice.

9:14, I didn't see anything saying they were going to be doing their job. It said they would be there. Probably be doing pretty much what they always do, and that is not what most people think their job is.

Having worked for the MDOPS/MHP, every holiday period they get federal grants and have a catchy slogan to go along with it. Whatever, they and certainly local law enforcement in counties such as Rankin and several others, have gotten more effective. That is a great accomplishment. The real problem areas are lesser patrolled highways and back roads. Good luck to all law enforcement!

I was behind a trooper on 49 headed to Yazoo City last Thursday afternoon. We both passed a woman with her hood up on the side of the road. I followed him on into Yazoo.

Before you ask, NO, I didn't stop either. But I don't have a statewide radio network and an arsenal of weapons. I would think his job would call for him to at least pull over and ask what the problem was. But, hell, what am I thinking. It was right at 11:40 a.m.

A couple of weeks ago I was parked at Georgia Blue in Madison waiting on someone to meet me for dinner. Trooper pulled up and got out in his referee uniform. He went inside. Twenty minutes later, I went inside with my friend. We were in there at least 45 minutes and when we left he was still seated with his table of guests or whoever they were.

There are three possibilities here:

1) He was on duty wearing a referee's uniform.

2) He was refereeing later and using his patrol car for personal reasons.

3) He was taking an extended dinner break, on duty, out of uniform.

thanks for not posting my comment, I think it was creative in that it articulated why you don't tell folks where the cops are going to be...

It takes a smart guy to do that many push ups and mountain climbers. You gotta drive real fast, rite a hole buncha tickets if' y'all Phil like it, show up for court or not (at the tax payers expense and the defendant has to come back w no dismissal). Plus, the trooper don't have to do no investigation.
That said, there are some very good accident reconstruction troopers out there. As a prosecutor, the best that I have had the pleasure of working with was female. Also anytime a law enforcement professional puts on that badge he/she puts their life on the line. I do certainly respect that.
Everyone have a safe Thanksgiving!🇺🇸

I also respect law enforcement officers. It takes more then a badge to make a law enforcement officer. The troopers in Ms. have shown time after time that they are not really law enforcement officers.
I will take them at their word. If they do not respect the badge they put on I can not see anyone respecting the person behind the badge.

Newsflash: As was said earlier, federal funds are sprinkled over the states like glitter at a child's party. This money is FREE, right? It comes from the money tree and it pays overtime and funds a crock-pot Friday or two at Troop Headquarters buildings across the state.

The funding is supposedly a hook to get states to increase efforts to reduce holiday deaths; however, in Mississippi, the funds are simply a mechanism to fund overtime for 'controlmen' riding on major highways. And that's not where the holiday traffic-deaths occur in the first place.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
