Hinds County District 4 Election Commissioner Connie Cochran posted this message on Facebook this morning:
As the saying goes, one door closes and another one will open. As of December 31 I will be no longer be the Election Commissioner for Hinds County District 4. It has been an honor and privilege to serve the voters of Hinds County for 24 years. After much hard work by so many ffiends and supporters, we came up 112 votes short. I thank all of you who have supported my efforts for so many years. Pray for Hinds County elections in the future.
Kingfish note: The plan hatched by Derrick Johnson and Robert Graham back in 2010 is working perfectly. District 4 has four offices: Supervisor, Justice Court Judge, Constable, and Election Commissioner. Graham, Anderson, and Smith approved a secret plan to drop the percentage of white voters in District 4 to barely above 50% despite the fact that 30% of Hinds County voters are white. Constable Lewis went down last year while Mike Morgan and Jimmie Morton barely won their respective races for Supervisor and Justice Court Judge.
What is interesting is Ms. Cochran told this correspondent that our old friend Ike Brown was repeatedly calling the courthouse to find out the results of her particular race. Now why would he have such an interest?

Excellent public servant; tremendous loss. The Graham/Johnson plan timing may be short-lived, though, now that Trump is in the WH. We'll miss you Connie! You've earned a quiet retirement for your service. Enjoy it!
We had three crooked DemoRats on the Madison County Election Commission that tried to count affidavit ballots from people that admitted they did not even live in the county. There was nothing they would not do to overturn GOP David Bishop's win for supervisor. We were able to get two off the Commission. Now maybe ballot boxes won't go "missing" like they did in the last Supervisor election.
It is too bad that Cochran got outed by corrupt Dems. She was a fair, honest, and respected official. Hinds County is sinking deeper into the abyss.
Hinds will have 5 new election commissioners. They may all be honest and well intentioned but how will any of them know what the heck they are doing?
James Reed is in a runoff in District 1. Good man and he deserves to win.
White people in Clinton going to need to move to Madison to find their safe space lmaooooooo
Reed deserves to win?
If he gets more votes he wins.
Why do you say he deserves to win?
What did Reed do that was so much better?
White people vote for a white candidate - that's racist
Black people vote for a black candidate - they're protecting their interest
The end of an era for Hinds County! Connie Cochran is a smart, hard working individual who has the best interest of Hinds County at heart and to see that elections are carried out according to the election laws in the State of Mississippi. Who are you going to find in Hinds County that will be the kind of person that she is, with the knowledge that she has, to replace her? Yeah, thought so! This loss just took Hinds County down one less rung on the ladder, folks. No longer will you have anyone there with the knowledge of how the elections should be run, you will no longer have anyone who cares how the elections should be run. You haven't seen any "shenanigans" pulled in connection with Hings County elections, yet; just wait until the next one!
other than a few liberal folks and state employees, who really gives a rat's ass what happens in Hinds County???? the peoples that live there obviously do not...
That no one in Hinds County cares is just so far from the truth. I live in Hinds County and I can't afford to just "move." You'd be surprised at the number of people in Hinds County who really do care. We are just outnumbered by crooks and dummies. There are still some good and honorable folks here!
When I saw that the precinct that votes at FIRST BAPTIST WAS NO LONGER in her district I new she had VERY LITTLE TO NO CHANCE!
The job of Election Commissioner is complicated, and NO ONE can just walk in and do it.
____
The next election in HINDS COUNTY will be a disaster.
It is a damn shame Ms Cochran lost.
What interest ones Ike Brown have in this race? He wants to be sure the 400 or so absentee ballots he cast for dead people's were counted.
YES...you are so right about the 1st Baptist precinct ...7:13
@Kingfish
"Graham, Anderson, and Smith approved a secret plan to drop the percentage of white voters in District 4 to barely above 50% despite the fact that 30% of Hinds County voters are white."
WTF are you talking about? That doesn't make a lick of sense because a majority of prominent blacks have left Jackson due to the lack of diversity? So trying to eliminate the white vote in Precinct 4 goes against their own best interest
12:37 - Let me see if I can help you out. When 'white majority' precincts are carved up to reduce that majority, it's easier for non-whites to take control.
You are plain damned nuts if you think black people are moving out of Hinds because of a lack of diversity? They may be moving because of a lack of dead criminals, however.
Hey 5:11, there are still more republican voters in Hinds than in Madison. Get off your high horse.
One thing that seems to always get lost in these discussions is the need to protect every valid vote. Anyone who thinks it is "Smart" or "Funny" or "the way its supposed to be to win" by stealing votes is absolutely un-American. Anything tolerated in gerrymandering by one group of people will be used by another group against them. When the racial issue is taken out and just an individual vote being valid, then it is fair election. There can be no wink and a nod and it be acceptable.
Connie Cochran knew this, protected as best she could this premise, and regardless of your race, you should appreciate her efforts. When all the Election Commissioners are new, it is going to be a difficult job. Perhaps the County should hire someone to come in and create checklists and conduct classes.
Send the new ones up to Madison to be trained. Not three months ago Madison County Commissioners were cited by the AG's office for going into executive session illegally. The catch is that they already knew it was not legal.
Just two weeks ago, when votes were being counted, one election commissioner was alone in the room with her precinct boxes fiddle farting around with the ballots.
They got their shit together up there in Madison.
reading these post it is hard to believe you are talking about the same Connie Cochran who did not follow state law and have enough ballots printed for an election, causing voters to have to endure long lines after work in N.Jackson to cast paper ballots. This is the same Connie Cochran who refused to provide training for new election commissioners so only she would know what was going on. This is the same Connie Cochran who wanted to but used voting machines when the federal government had provided money to purchase new state of the art voting machines. As a knowledgeable voter in Hinds County I am overjoyed that she is gone.
Robert, is that you?
You are not knowledgeable.
1. The entire election commission voted to print that number of ballots. Not just her. they all did . I've got the minutes and the vote. It was a 5-0 vote. But of course, its much easier to beat up on the white woman.
2. Robert Graham ordered the new machines and it wound up being a huge cluster.
3. As for learning how to use SEMS, they were all fat and happy letting her do all of the work. The SOS offers training. They didn't bother trying to learn it. Jermel made a fool of himself a few years ago and when she refused to do something crooked for him, he tried to do it himself and is so dumb, he couldn't figure anything out.
4. Then there is the special election for Supervisor in District 2. Graham and Stokes tried to deprive those people of their right to vote and refused to pay for the primary. Ms. Cochran found the money in her budget to pay for the primaries and Graham and Stokes refused to vote on it until the AG said otherwise.
Thanks for your comments, KF.
12:44 is not at all 'knowledgeable' but has actually shown how stupid or gullible he is.
It is not one commissioner's responsibility to train other commissioners. Each one is elected on their own and they get paid a daily rate for specific duties. Training of others in how to do their job is not part of the job requirements. The state association provides training every year for all commissioners and a special training for new commissioners. And the Secretary of State provides training for commissioners. The fact that there were two commissioners (Jamel Clark and Bobby Graves) that were too dumb to learn - even though they went to those out of town association meetings and enjoyed their per diems while there - was not the fault of Ms. Cochran.
Anybody that had to deal with either of those two commissioners would understand that all the training in the world wouldn't get them to where they could do their work. And if you look at the so-called 'time sheets of Clark for the past several years you would see that much of the time he has charged in order to get his daily pay was for 'reading the code' rather than doing the work required of him like updating or purging the rolls of his district.
Even more stupid is the comment about the voting machines. The so-called federal money that 'was available' was spent before it became available when Hinds County bought touchscreen machines in 2002 - a full four years ahead of when the state purchased touchscreens using that federal money. Hinds County was refunded for their expenditure but there wasn't some unspent money. Even more more stupid was the statement that Ms. Cochran 'wouldn't spend it'. Neither she - nor the entire commission - could spend any money for voting machines or for anything else. The Board of Supervisors is responsible for purchasing the machines and they were the ones that bought the touchscreens over a decade ago and the Board of Supervisors were the people that bought the new machines a couple of years ago. Neither of those purchases, or the failure to purchase anything, was done by Ms Cochran.
12:44 must be one of those folks that has been all over black talk radio the past few weeks pushing folks to go out and 'get rid of that white woman, that white Ms. Cochran from down at the election commission'. These talking heads were claiming that Ms. Cochran is what has kept them from taking over the county completely by 'stealing the elections from our black neighbors.'
Kenneth Stokes was elated this Sunday morning expressing his happiness that the white woman down there at the courthouse is now gone. Guess you are part of his posse.
Connie Cochran was elected chairman of the election commission by four blacks!
They knew they she would get the job done right. She worked almost full time, while the others worked a couple of hours each day. God save Hinds county! God bless Connie and THANKS for a job well done!
