Someone apparently got a case of the stupid. The Madison Police Department issued the following statement:
OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING WITH SUICIDAL
SUBJECT
On Thursday, November 24, 2016 at
approximately 5:18 PM officers of the Madison Police Department responded to a
report of a suicidal subject at a residence on South Place Drive in
Madison. Upon the officers’ arrival they
learned that a female subject inside the residence had fired a shotgun at
another occupant of the residence. The
person fired upon was not injured.
Officers were able to clear the residence and determine that the female
subject had barricaded herself in a bathroom.
The Special Response Team was called and upon their arrival they
attempted to make contact with the female in the bathroom. Believing that the subject was about to harm
herself the officers breached the bathroom door with a shield. As they entered the bathroom the female
subject fired the shotgun towards the officers.
As officers took cover one officer returned fire with his side-arm
weapon striking the subject in her left arm, right arm, and breast. The shotgun was secured at which time
officers rendered first aid to the subject.
Madison Fire Department and Pafford Paramedics arrived at the residence
and administered aid to the subject. She
was transported to the University of MS Medical Center where she is listed in
stable condition.
The Mississippi Bureau of
Investigation was contacted and arrived on the scene to take charge of the
investigation. As is policy for officers
involved in shootings, the officer who discharged his firearm has been assigned
to non-enforcement, administrative duties pending the conclusion of the investigation.
Any further information regarding
this incident will be released by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

She is very lucky that she is not dead. You can't tell me she wasn't aware the police were at the door
As a resident of Madison, I would like to "reach out" to this troubled family. Would anyone else like to help take up a collection, toward the relocation of these misplaced persons TO JACKSON, where people like that belong?
Sounds like she was attempting suicide by cop. Or she was whacked out on meth.
This doesn't happen in Jackson! Madison thugs!
Amen to the first post and kiss my ass to the second two. Obviously trouble, as anyone is in this circumstance. Glad no officer was shot.
Perhaps Gluckstadt won't have these kinds of crime issues. Madison is finished.

Ditto 11:32.
Many people are saying she must be Caucasian.....otherwise she would be dead.
Attn 12:10 She apparently has 3 bullet holes in her. It does not appear that wounding her was the policeman's objective. It may nor be too late for you to go to the "black lives matter" racial protest in Chicago.
I'm going to make a statement that will not be well taken. Years ago our grandparents didn't rely on the pharmaceutical industry to create a remedy for everything that was wrong. Those people helped raise us. Our current culture has fallen prey to the preditorial effect of the drug companies that are almost WORSE than the illegal drug makers. Think about it. We keep drugging ourselves into anfeel good date of mind then one way or another we will have to pay. Our society needs to toughen up. Did your parents have to take crap to deal with life? Did your grandad have to hold up a stress card during combat when he landed at Normandy or Iwo Jima? Our current society is worthless.
Are the people on this site obsessed with race or what. Jesus.
This could have happened anywhere. My thanks and to the law enforcement officers.
To everyone else who appears to have this continuing disagreement regarding the best, safest, most lucrative or prettiest place to live, my hope is that you all get it "worked out". I feel as though each of you is doing your best to live where you wish.
I am appalled at the tacky comment by 10:50. How inappropriate. Some family members reach the breaking point on Holidays. So grateful no officers were injured and I pray the woman gets help; regardless of her race.
@10:50. I will add you to my prayer list that you find the Lord during this holiday season.
That's the civility one can expect in the next 4 years... "I am watching them go blind".
@2:20 90% of the people who post on this site are obsessed with race. You must just be reading this site if you did not know that.
So - To recap. The cops were afraid she would hurt herself so they busted the door down and shot her three times. Gotcha!
6:57 So, to recap; the cops got a 911call reporting a subject with a shogun who was trying to harm others. Additionally she may be suicidal. Officers responded to a dangerous woman baracaded in the restroom who might try to harm herself and the officers. Officers breached the bathroom door and defended themselves when she tried to harm/kill them.

Who said anything about RACE? I saw the house on the news, last night, and while the blue of the shutters was APPALLING - particularly considering the brick color, and the unusually loud olive green of the siding, I still could not make a guess as to the race of the home's occupants. Occasionally, you see rednecky types moving into Madison - the kind of people who think it's OK to choose a color from "their team's" official colors, for painting their shutters. My assumption was that the cheap-looking blue was a football color. And again: plenty of low-class WHITES do that sort of thing.
But wouldn't these taste-challenged people be more comfortable in Byram, Southwest Jackson, or Pearl, where that sort of color scheme is considered NORMAL?
Maybe I am not that smart but who, beside herself, could the woman hurt locked in the bathroom? Why not just wait her out?
Mary needs to buy some tear gas and flash bangs.
I'm sure the lawsuit will be forthcoming.
Exactly, 10:08. There was no way she would hurt anyone else locked inside a bathroom. What about a 'hostage negotiation team' or similar folks trained in counseling? Or introduce gas under the bathroom door. No time for that, here. Bust down that door, knowing she would more than likely discharge the weapon. Great thought process at work there.
Maybe Madison PD should have called in the Pearl guys who stop drug traffickers on Interstate 20.
Naturally they had to suspend the shooter during the investigation, but the one being investigated should include the man who gave the order.
So....Get your own cop job in 3..2..1.
Sure you are smart 10:08. It just probably failed to occur to you that she could have blown her head off with the "shotgun" at any time.
12:58, she could have. What difference does it make if she would have instead of the cops shooting her? They did fail to kill her but it wasn't from lack of trying. Of course she could have only wounded herself also or she could have came out in a few minutes unharmed.
I am so pleased that neither the suspect who had attempted to kill other persons in the home nor the police officers were not killed. I don't know why she locked herself in the bathroom but she was a suspect for attempted murder.
