The Capitol Police issued the following statement.
On Thursday, September 7th, 2023, Mississippi Capitol Police responded to a call regarding a domestic violence situation at a residence on Fairview Street in Jackson, Mississippi.
Upon arrival, officers initially encountered a male subject attempting to leave the residence. When officers approached the home, the subject retreated inside the residence. It was determined that there was a female subject in the home who was then taken hostage by the male. The male subject has been identified as, 40-year-old, Daniel Fairly. The female was able to escape from the home and did not receive any serious physical injuries. Capitol Police officers did not receive any serious physical injury and were able to successfully negotiate with the subject and quickly deescalate the situation at hand. Fairly was arrested at the scene without any further incident. Charges are pending.
“Situations like this are never easy, but I am proud of the swift response done by the team here at Capitol Police,” said Capitol Police Chief Bo Luckey. “I am thankful for the patience displayed by these officers and that we were able to quickly and efficiently de-escalate the situation and come out of this with no injuries.”

Thanks Chief for the update, y’all be safe!
Belhaven is doomed.
They got Luckey and used their patience unlike the Goonies with the remote control rapid deployment home remodeling forklift bullshit.
Someone needs to tell that Bryan Bailey embarrassment that this is how you handle a standoff.
Capitol Police did an excellent job. The leadership & citizens of Jackson should get on their knees and praise & thank God the Capitol Police are keep the city safe.
That’s how to handle these situations. Thank you, Chief, for making sure your officers are well trained in how to respond to a DV situation. They are the most dangerous incidents to respond to.
Is this the guy who just bought Steve’s Deli?
Efficient, competent Policing. We need more of that!
I wish the stand-off in my gluckstadt neighborhood could’ve ended this way.
So many know how things should be handled. Looking forwards to your applications to your local department.
You mean they dont have to demolish the front of the home and make a grand assault??
"New owner Daniel Fairly, who bought the place from Steve Long in 2023, grew up around downtown. Although he doesn’t have any restaurant experience, he consulted with longtime friends Michael Longo and Ashley Davis, who were excited about the opportunity to finally run their own kitchen."
Is this the guy?
Looks like it, 8:22. Not a good start for his new business.
I was under the misguided impression there was no crime in Gluckstadt.
8:22. Apparently. https://www.clarionledger.com/story/news/2023/05/31/new-owner-takes-over-steves-deli-jackson-ms/70272848007/
Bailey? Actually a former trooper was in charge of the scene in Brandon. Second time a cop was killed at a standoff and he was in charge.
And I know some very smart folks that refuse to leave Belhaven, ( no matter the crime ... lack of water and such).
Are there really some people here who are critical of the way Capitol Police handled this? Really? I think this must have happened at about 5:30. An unmarked cop car took off next to me on Peachtree at the Woodrow Wilson intersection.
Just bought Steve’s Deli. His Dad was also a judge in Rankin County, Dan Fairly, that killed himself a few years back.
10:02: Awwwwww, thank you....that's.so sweet!
I just looked it up on the SOS website, and it is indeed the new owner of Steve's Deli, says this owner is located on Fairview St.
@ 10:02
Where should they move to? Gluckstadt or Brandon this happened multiple times over in gluckstadt and crossgates. I have 2 rental properties in gluckstadt and I live in Belhaven. One of the rental in gluckstadt is a few houses down from the stand-off. My tenant was home at tine and scared to death.
@6:16 AM
You mean your tenant has had water multiple times when you didn’t lol 😂 what ingenious priorities you have!
Hellhaven has become a craphole much like the Fondren. Full of junkies. Just a bunch of dope heads that can only afford the low rent houses there with a few of the old liberal Jacksonians that won’t move no matter how many potholes or days without water they endure. There are some nice old houses there but it has really gone down like all of Jacktown.
G.
Yes he owns the Deli and yes he is and has been unhinged for a while.
Capitol Police is the best thing to happen to Jackson in a long time. It is the ONLY thing that will get some businesses, and therefore people, to return to downtown and surrounding areas. Now, if those idiots will just elect Chokwe out of office in 2025.
Another Belhaven resident here.
Thank you to Cap Police for everything y’all do. Everyone I know in Belhaven appreciates y’all very much even if we don’t wave or talk to y’all every time we cross paths.
I am glad the standoff was resolved so professionally.
I am stunned that some of you still want to condemn a city for things that didn't make the news, only the gossip "grapevine".
The gossips, like some commenting, loved to speculate, embellish, link the family involved to as many others as possible, mention any past words or deeds of the family, and make sure the "muck" was spread as wide as possible.
Now gossips do get invited around and get to be the center of attention while they spread the news. But what they don't get ever is the trust or respect of those around them who aren't fools.
Indeed, all of you who think being insulting, rude or snide is entertaining, need to know unless you can be witty and original, you are seen as crude.
@7:54 - I am and I do.
10:02 on 9/7, you just described oxyMORONS.
Imagine trying to live and run a business in Jackson without buying into the delusions about where the blame lies for the decay. Censorship is everywhere including this blog. It’s like real life They Live! and I can completely understand how people are so close to snapping everywhere. We are constantly immersed in an insane and dysfunctional society full of sheeple who are being herded by the wolves.
Hopefully, JPD and the HCSO are paying attention. It would be great to have three combined forces working together to return the metro streets back to the citizens and keep the commercial tax base intact.
I moved from Jackson and lived out of state for 26+ years. I travelled extensively for work, met with and worked with people all over this country. Every chance I got, I spoke positively about the great people of Mississippi and my love for it/them. I'm not from this state having only lived here 12 years before I left the first time. I'm chagrined at how small minded and petty the neighboring citizens are about Jackson. It's strange to me how much joy so many get out of slagging this city. Is it broken? Obviously. Do we have inept leadership, at best? Obviously. However; there are a lot of talented, industrious people staying here to make it better. There are many who have no option but to stay here. If you can't do something to help, help us out and keep your eyes on your own problems. At this point you are saying more about yourselves than about Jackson. Stop beating a nearly dead horse...
9:44 AM, this story literally made the news.
https://www.wlbt.com/2023/09/08/man-arrested-after-standoff-belhaven/
He owns Steve’s Deli and MS Janitorial Supply. He’s the son of the late Dan Fairly, who was a long time Rankin Co judge. They didn’t mention he hit her in the face several times & also held a gun to her face. The standoff lasted 2 hours. He is a womanizer, drug & alcohol addict.
9:44 (Fairley's Mon)you are right. We should defend the asshole who terrorized his girlfriend.
He is for sure a stand-up guy and WE are the villians in the story. I'm shocked the cops even bothered this fine gentleman on a lovely evening at home. Shame on them and us for not seeing him as a saint, like you seem to.
And I know some very smart folks that refuse to leave Belhaven, ( no matter the crime ... lack of water and such).
As if domestic abuse is exclusive to Jackson, LMAO!!!! These suburbanites! LOL!!!!
Wow this P.O.S. Woman abuser just purchased Steve’s deli. Not another dollar from me ever again. What a disgusting THUG!!!!!!
11:51 - Good comment. Some of these trolls are the kinds of people that would run over you and curse you out for getting blood on their tires. Fucking evil, ruined people.
This situation is under investigation due to the fact that the statement made to police isnt necessarily lining up and there seems to be some exaggerations/fabrications in the details. The standoff was a mental health crisis with the person in the home, alone, and the victim was never held as a hostage. She left the property unharmed and then called police from a neighbors home. People should wait until all the facts come out to pass judgment.
@ 2:47 PM
While I agree that there are quite a few posts by intolerant and constantly angry-at-the-world types, I would also argue that there are a lot of suburbanites that grew-up within the city limits, and are completely fed-up with the economic and moral decay of a once great capital city.
"She left the property unharmed and then called police from a neighbors home."
Not quite. She left the property after being thrown into a wall and back-handed all while a gun was held to her head. She was able to run out of the house and to her neighbors when her cell phone fell out of her pocket and he thought she was recording him.
As she ran out of the house, he takes two shots at her. Mental illness or not, it's still domestic violence, and he still pulled the trigger pointing his gun at someone other than himself.
The woman was held hostage. She was held down with a gun to her head . She did escape . And when it said no one was harmed . Ha . I can’t imagine what this has done emotionally to her. Even if he has mental illness , he clearly can run 2 businesses just fine but then goes and tries to kill someone ….. Like the previous post he has been unhinged and was on high on several drugs . Records show that his girlfriend or whatever she was had gotten a restraining order the day before . He does need jail time , but also lots of mental health intervention. Praying for all involved .
This is the victim of the domestic violence event that happened on Thursday mid evening. I’m ready to tell the real story which is far more disturbing than what has been on the news . I will forever be haunted buy this event. I have talked to the varies news stations and the story will be shared and I want to be able to help others and warm potential victims on what can be prevented before it gets to the point that I was placed in . I wish Daniel would get intense mental health counseling and drug and alcohol help . Even though I went through what I did, I do not hate or wish anything bad upon him . He is getting just a slap on the hand and will be set free as early as tomorrow, but I will never be set free from the trama he caused . It took this incident for me to open my eyes to see that I have been a victim of domestic abuse for a while . This isn’t the 1st time something like this has happened, but not to the extent of what did happen . I should have gotten help a long time ago, and gotten away but I continued to stay because I thought I could save him for his addictions . I have gotten a 2nd chance at life and I will be free of being his wife but, I will never be the same person. . I’m not sure I’m ready for the back lash I will receive claiming it’s my fault for continuing to stay and so on, but the truth about this man needs to be known to save the next victim he person that he decides to go to . Which with that being said , I found out he has already started on multiple woman .
Sounds like a classy bunch. Clearly they’re from Rankin County. Keep that trash out my city.
WHEN are the local news stations going to tell the whole story about what "Mary" has been subjected to by Daniel Fairly? People in theJackson area need to informed about this man.
Yes, people in the Jackson area need to be warned about this "unhinged" man who apparently shot at this woman last week. I definitely want to hear her account of the incident.
Another unnecessary arrest
