William "Polo" Edwards wants to get out of jail and wants to get out of jail now. Edwards filed a motion for bond in Hinds County Circuit Court on September 15.
A Hinds County grand jury indicted Edwards for the murder of Robert Davis in May 2022 and for being a felon in possession of a firearm. His trial on the charges ended in a mistrial last month. Edwards is being held without bond.
Edwards' attorney, Thomas Fortner, argued his "proof of guilt was not evident" as the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict.
In a fit of unintended amusement, Mr. Fortner argued:
6. In its previous order the Court indicated its concern that Mr. Edwards posed a risk of flight. However, after all of the evidence was presented at trial there was no evidentiary basis for the State to request or be granted an instruction allowing the jury to infer guilt from flight.
No, Mr. Fortner, the police just arrested him in New Orleans after he fled the state. They just happened to find the same bullets in his, oops, make that Reverend Pickett's vehicle that were used to kill Davis. In fact, that evidence was presented in court.
It's a safe bet Judge Peterson will deny the motion.

"The trial spammed seven (7) days..."
Yes, indeed, it did.
He didn't grease the right palms in time. Too bad. You would think that he understands how Hinds County "justice" really works.
He is probably in a suite at the Hotel Raymond, with a cellphone, microwave, hotplate, and a squeeze, with deputies playing step & fetch, just like in Goodfellas.
@8:53 AM - Good catch of that Freudian slip.
Rev you got that ride and rent money ready for me? Hello, hello, Man quit playing, you know this is Polo.
12:17 I don’t think he was ever housed in a Hinds County Facility!
"It's a safe bet Judge Peterson will deny the motion." Then again, she did take that Hung Jury motion real quickly.
But-
He honored his bond in his two earlier felony convictions
