That was a scary one for sure.
Our parents wouldn't let us go see this. We went to New Orleans on our Senior Trip in 1974 and as soon as our bus arrived in Nola, we ran to the movie theatre on Canal. Whoa! We were so pale when we came out. It scared the devil out of us! 😉
Whew...I was scared until I saw it was a movie.
At first I thought Kingfish was revealing that Lumumba was announcing a new program to "improve life in Jackson."
If I remember correctly, JPD confiscated the film when it was first shown in Jackson.
When this film was released 50 years ago, it was scary as hell.
I do remember there was a big controversy about whether or not it should even been shown in Jackson.
The Clarion Ledger & Jackson Daily News had a field day with with the arguments.
If I remember, I think Deville Cinema, said " to hell with it" and showed the movie anyway.
I saw this at the Robert E. Lee Cinema on RE Lee Boulevard in Lakeview, New Orleans when I was a sophomore in high school. I slept in my parents room that night.
My buddy, who had been drinking Southern Comfort, passed out in the lobby.
Good times. . .
I remember one of these movies that we stood in line to see the first showing because they said the city would block the movie as soon as they showed it.
Even if The Exorcist was not the one I think it was, it was a very scary movie. about ten years back, we went on a mission trip to Zambia in Africa and I encountered a "possessed" lady after a Sunday morning service where I preached at the Rocky Road Baptist Church in Lusaka Zambia.
The only thing I care to share is that her head did not rotate. Very concerning experience that thankfully turned out ok. We were told before leaving the good old USA to be sure we reviewed Paul's handling of posesed people in Acts. I did and am happy I did.
Fiction.
No reason to be “scared.” It is fiction.
11:10, Is It?????????
Imagine the world when THIS was the biggest scandal for Jackson, JPD and the Clarion Liar.
I know we must embrace change as part of life, but man...we have fallen.
Saw it at Deville. Two people ran out with their hand over their mouth to hold in the puke. Another didn't make it out of his seat before barfing. Prolly not as scary to today's movie goers as it was our generation back then.
Takes on a completely different feel when you realize there’s no god and no demons.
