Governor Ends Mask Mandate

Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement.

Today, Governor Tate Reeves signed Executive Order 1549. This order will go into effect at 5:00 PM on March 3rd and stay in effect until March 31st.

"Today, I signed what I expect will be one of my last executive orders regarding COVID-19. Our hospitalizations have plummeted, and our case numbers have fallen dramatically as well. In fact, our case numbers have fallen to the point where no county meets the original criteria for a mask mandate," said Governor Tate Reeves.

"I am replacing our current orders with recommendations. Everyone should continue to listen to Dr. Dobbs and other health advisors for the best possible wisdom regarding how you can personally stem any risk of catching COVID. Their insight is valuable. The only rules that will remain in this order are a capacity limit of 50% on indoor arenas, and those that govern K-12 schools."

Mississippians are encouraged, though not ordered, to wear a face covering and practice social distancing. K-12 schools will still require a mask where social distancing is not possible. Seating for K-12 extracurricular activities at outdoor venues is now set at 50% capacity and 25% maximum seating capacity inside. Seating capacity for indoor bowl and arena seating is now increased to 50%.

Big thanks to Robert Foster. I hope he runs again.

Mississippi is doing better, but its not like we are doing well. 18th in the nation for COVID cases and 9th for deaths in the past seven days according to the Washington Post.

Tate should have lifted the mask mandate just for those who have been vaccinated.

We’re all F’ED

2:55 hit it right on the head. no mask mandate for vaccinated people. kept it in place, for now, for unvaccinated people.

watch those numbers go back up...it happened before.

Should we really be following health orders from someone who is at least 50 lbs overweight? I hearby order Tate Reeves to stop stuffing his pie hole.

So Tate allows the change for outdoor stadiums to 50% to start on Friday?? Boy is he going to piss off all of the Golden Eagle fans that want to see the game tomorrow night against the Bulldogs. So when ole miss and state play, 50% and when USM and state play, 25%. Really dumb as there is no science based decision and even dumber politically!!

We’re all over Covid, but Covid ain’t over. Back to licking doorknobs and windows!

You want to watch him lose again? Odd way to say 'thanks'.

We haven't even had the B117 surge yet. Texas has less than 15% of their population vaccinated.

Yay! No more waiting in the Drive Thru lines, and back to raw dogging air in public.

Can Governor Reeves get Joe Namath the hell off my TV?

Oh come on folks give Tater some credit. Is there anyone who really thinks a mask will protect you from the China virus? If you do you believe wrestling is real and Joe Biden is awesome. Clearly the country is closing in on herd immunity. But there are some who would have us believe it will never be over or safe, and that lock downs should stay in place forever or as long as it suits their agendas. Enough is enough! America is on the verge of industrial collapse and its time to shut down the shut downs. Open it all and force the communist Chinese to pay for the damages and lose of life. Nuff said

Can DeSantis be our Governor too?

3:05, I know some question the value of a Golden Eagle's education, but don't they still qualify as a college, not a K-12 institution? From reading the post above (Havent listened to the press conference) it says the seating capacity is for K-12 events.

And what the hell did Robert Foster have to do with this, or any other actions taken here, except to show his ignorance and arrogance?

Anonymous said...

How dumb can it get! Hopefully most businesses will maintain the best practices recommend by health care officials.

Piss off all of the Golden Eagle fans ?
(What, all 200 of them ?)

At least Ole Miss & State can fill up a major stadium even in a bad year.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers come to Hattiesburg, along with ESPN . . . and the "USM fans" can't even sell-out a 35K seat little stadium on Highway 49.

Hey 2:55 and 3:00 pm, what about the folks that have had covid and recovered? There's no reason for us to wear masks either. I'm just as immune to covid, or more so, than those that have received the vaccination. I'm just sayin'.

You sheep keep wearing masks !!! If the Federal government told yall to sleep in them yall would!!! Masks DO NOT WORK !!!

Who is Robert Foster?

I work at UMMC and have been fully vaccinated but I will continue to wear a mask in public. Just because I don't have symptoms doesn't mean that I won't accidentally become a carrier and infect someone.

Common sense has ceased to be common. COVID is not contained, everyone has not been vaccinated, new strains are on the rise. Numbers of new cases are understandably down, given that testing is down. Governor Reeves is merely following/adhering to the political party line established at the onset of the pandemic. Additionally, as far as leadership goes, he is not original in his thinking or policy implementation...he is merely doing what other similarly politically affiliated governors are doing, or have been advised to do. Greg Abbot of Texas made a similar announcement today. As individuals, we must decide to use good judgement in this situation. We/our families are the ones who will suffer if we don't.

@4:16 I was in the emergency room for several hours back in October with my uncle at St. Dominic. Very few of the nurses and doctors wore masks. This was obviously before the vaccine. I wore a mask, because only one person could come in with the patient, they made me wear a mask, and made me answer the checklist. But they were unconcerned when I took it off several times.

Anonymous said...

4:35, no - you obviously miss the point that was made in the beginning of the COVID crap. The restrictions on gatherings, masks, etc were all to avoid overwhelming the hospital systems, not to absolutely prevent the spread of the disease. As the facts easily show, the hospitalizations, the ICUs, etc are all now well within their capacity to operate which was not the case a year ago, or two months ago.

Now, reasonable precaustions should be taken, but not mandates that shut down the economy or further damage individual businesses. The medical system is not overwhelmed, it can handle those that get sick.

But - you don't like Tate. Hell, you just don't like Republicans in general. That's ok, your right. The facts though are that the decisions are being made based on many considerations, particularly the ability of the system to deal with them.

Hey 3:59 Tell that to my friend and his wife who have both had Covid, not once but TWICE. They both hate the mask and refuse to wear one. They both got Covid back in June. They got over the virus, thought they were immune to getting it again, and refused to wear the mask. Late fall they again get the virus.

Anonymous said...

What is he going to do in 30 days, when we have a surge in cases from this totally asinine political move.
Provisions should be placed in the Covid-19 relief bill, that if you governor is a dumbass, you should not get any funds.

I can relate.

I sat in the St."D" Emergency Room with my elderly Father (who had a rare blood disorder). His blood was leaking out of every orifice.

Gross I know, but a meth couple with neck tat's and a butt pimple took priority.

But the St.Dominic "security guards" remain focused on smoking in the parking garage.

Any math other than his date on his degree reception date? Geeesd, dumb sob believes his own brand of pure Bolshevik.

Kingfish said...

OK, let's step back and look at this with cooler heads. Yeah, the mask mandate is going to end. In reality, I doubt we notice much of a difference.

Pretty much every national chain is going to require a mask. Some cities will require them although let's face it, they don't enforce the mandates. Most, if not all, health care providers are going to require masks. I don't see the Medical and Dental boards backing off their protocols any time soon. Restaurants are still going to be terrified of getting shutdown by an outbreak so quite a few of them will probably still require them although quite a few of them won't.

The numbers are dropping nationwide. The vaccine probably has something to do with it. This virus is going to run around as the cold or flu viruses do. It's a coronavirus. We aren't going to beat it or wipe it out. The vaccines hopefully mitigate it so society can function normally again.

I understand why many are criticizing the Governor. I really do. If in two months there has been no spike or increase, are you prepared to admit it turned out ok? Is the other side prepared to admit it if it turns out to be the wrong decision?

This guy is asking the real questions.

Raw doggin’ is slang for sexual intercourse without a rubber (condom/protection). I presume the scholar that made the raw doggin air comment meant he was excited to once again be able to f**k some air with his mouth in public without his face condom. Thanks Taturr

I think the mandate should have remained in place until the vaccine is available to everyone over 18. So only 4/6 more weeks at most.

We have to accept that Covid is going to be around for good. We are going to be able to choose to have a booster vaccine every year. Many Asians wear masks in public year round. People are going to do that. Get used to seeing them.

It’s amazing how much progress has been made in medicine in a year.

Anonymous said...

Let’s hope we have turned the tide, if we haven’t and we get a spike going into April, we will be able to thank Tater for mandatory quarantines and travel bans if we need to travel to most major cities in the Northeast or West.

Yay yay yay! I can finally throw away my free paper mask I’ve been wearing for 11 months. Or should I stick it back in my purse in case some places still require it?

Anonymous said...

@KF, 7:40p- Thank God at least you understand this vaccine does NOT immunize against the virus. People sound really dumb claiming they are “protected” from COVID after their two shots. The vaccine simply reduces the possibility of harsh symptoms (by less than 70%.) You will still be able to contract and spread the virus... just a less than 70% chance that you won’t have severe symptoms. You people do realize that a tiny percentage of people have the level of symptoms the vaccine is designed to protect against... and only about 2/3 of them will see the possibility of lesser symptoms, right?? For the large majority of the population, the vaccine appears POINTLESS!

The false sense of security people are finding in this vaccine is ludicrous.

The mask mandate should be lifted.

Those who want or need to do so should still wear masks.

I personally know so many die-hard maskers who have very little germ awareness. The biggest complainers are usually the grossest people.

The idiocy of the "Y'all Commuh-nists just wear masks if'un u want" is that the masks primarily protect OTHERS. Cletus, that means YOU should wear a mask to protect the "vulnerable," instead of the other way around.

A year later, and the Clown Downers are still stuck on stupid. And selfish.

YOU should be isolated if you don't cooperate in public health measures as YOU are the threat to the immune suppressed and more vulnerable.

And, yes, even YOU are actually vulnerable, but you're too dumb to understand it.

12:45 We are still waiting on the science to determine if the vaccine reduces the transmission rate, but all indications are it does. Initial studies in England and Israel indicate there could be as much as an 85% reduction in the transmission rate due to vaccinations.

Don't call widespread vaccinations "POINTLESS" just because you don't know for sure if they reduce the spread or not. A simple Google search will provide you with the evidence that they do, we just need more data to validate it.

Anonymous said...

Masks have not stopped the spread anywhere. The states or countries that didn't have mandates have on average had better results than those that did. There's a year's worth of worldwide data if any of y'all care to look at a damn chart, but based on most of the reactions on here you don't. Most of the masks being worn aerosolize respiratory droplets which makes spread easier. They don't f'ing work.

@9:53a- I found your “proof” and it LITERALLY states an “85% reduction in symptomatic COVID-19” in an Israeli hospital staff pool of 7,214. It does state at end of sentence “with an overall reduction of infections.” I wonder why they didn’t give THAT figure? (It’s too low, that’s why.) Also, how many of those hospital personnel have already had the virus? How many times? How many had active antibodies before the shot? ALL of this matters to create an honest picture.

Please tell me you understand that a “symptomatic reduction” does NOT equal a reduction in transmission.

I hope they eventually get it right, but it’s not happening as of yet. My whole statement was based on the false security of the current vaccines. NONE of current manufacturers claim to truly do anything besides possibly reduce symptoms. That’s factual no matter how you spin it.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
