WJTV "investigated" the ammo shortage and reported the main cause is the cost of metal:
Say what? The ammo shortage and higher prices are due to the cost of metal? Ummm.....Ok. The reporter interviewed not a gun dealer nor a gun manufacturer but the promoter of a gun show. Time to return to some basic economics. A shortage of supply during a period of high demand does what, class? Increases the price. A quick Google or Youtube search would have revealed some recent interviews with CEO's of gun manufacturers, you know, the guys who actually make the stuff.
Two interviews with manufacturers are posted below. The first one is the President of Nosler while the second one is the President of Federal Premium. They both say there are over 7 million new gun owners as well as a million new hunters. Concerts, operas, restaurant dining, and even the barbaric game of football have been off-limits for the last year. What does that leave? Hunting. Throw in the fear factor thanks to Covid and riots and guess what? Ammo becomes hard to find. The shortage also feeds on itself. As the Nosler President said, when people now see ammo for sale, they buy more than normal because they don't know when it will be available again.
If anything, the shortage has worsened in 2021 thanks to the rhetoric coming out of Washington. President Biden was one of the strongest opponents of guns when he was a Senator. He is expected to promote sweeping gun-control legislation. Thus even more panic buying.

We are probably in for an indefinite period of ammo shortages. With the left having no desire to promote anti-crime efforts, everyone is pretty much on their own.
If you don't have a way to protect yourself, you're an idiot and will inevitably become a victim.
All of you Jackson lovers, good luck.
Most of us with a sense of situational awareness took full advantage of the low prices during 45’s administration and stacked ammo and gun parts high and deep. Did the same thing for food, water purification, and auto parts.
Hyperinflation is just around the corner. Do any of you wonder why gold, silver, and cryptocurrency are increasing in value? It’s really because the dollar is decreasing in value. Ammo isn’t the only shortage. All commodities from wood to computer chips is in short supply in the USA.
If you can’t afford to invest in precious metals or crypto then convert your cash to Chinese yuan renminbi. It will soon be the next global reserve currency.
At the Jackson Gun Show today the JFD, backed up by the JPD, demanded a $50 "fire inspection" fee from all vendors or they had to leave the venue.
Baby Chok's brown shirts? SS? Gestapo?
Hopefully a TRO/injunction will follow.
A tip for those new to the hobby...when prices are low, stock up. Only you know the amount you're comfortable with, but you need to exceed that amount to allow for enough shooting to keep your skills up.
BabyChok is determined to drive all sources of revenue out of the city. He will then cry "racism" and demand bail outs.
I plan to move the business I own out of Jackson. If Jackson re-elects this Marxist nut then I have zero sympathy for the city.
WJTV is awful. When their news department occasionally gets a story right it is by accident, not intention.
If the manufacturers determine that it makes sense for them to increase production capacity, they will do so. I just don't foresee a never-ending shortage of ammunition.
Yep ... another great example of basic "High School" economics.
Simple supply & demand.
The same thing started with toilet paper about this time
(one year ago).
For those that have no clue about simple economic theory ... and there are many in Jackson,Mississippi that don't understand ...(one will pay whatever price for what they need).
Last year it was toilet paper.
Now it's ammunition again.
Cleaning one's self and defending one's self are both important to reasonable people.
Thus supplies of both decrease and the cost rises anytime the demand for said product increases.
(So what is more important? Wiping one's ass or shooting a neighbor over a dispute about about a fish fry ?)
I hope that simple explanation started a few Jacksonians to at least think about economic reality.
Anyway, carry on !
Spoke to Kim Wade. He said he was down there four hours ago and it didn't happen. Knows a bunch of the vendors as well as the promoter.
@4:45...Don't think ANYONE will ever see prices do anything but go up. This is a whole new Political atmosphere now. When Federal says they aren't selling primers because they need all they can manufacture for their own use, U can't reload if U cant get components. This different from 2013 after Sandy Hook rim fire shortage. Then manufacturers were using majority of their brass for larger caliber/higher Profit products.
You can find ammo, but You will PAY for it. There's another new player in the game. Auto Bots which resellers use to continuously crawl the web, making purchases based on input criteria.
It's not just ammo. A 25 year Nike Executive VP was forced to resign after her 19 year old son used Auto Bots to swarm the net, buying 600 pair/$132k of limited Edition newly released sneakers, which he resold for profit.
https://www.complex.com/sneakers/nike-ann-hebert-son-sneaker-resale-scandal-explained/how-was-joe-hebert-getting-shoes
When the shoes went on sale an hour later, Hebert’s 15 member team swarmed the Yeezy Supply website using specialized computer programs such as Cybersole, Kodai, and GaneshBot, each prepped with Hebert’s credit card information and capable of gaming a system meant to limit purchases to one pair per customer. By 6 a.m. the shoes were sold out, and Hebert’s bots had rung up $132,000 on his American Express.

I’m thinking that a metal shortage is the last thing that’s causing the ammo problem right now. Most people knew that the Biden administration was gonna declare war on firearms and ammunition. And they’ve started. Several bills already introduced by Sheila Jackson and others to curb ownership and ammunition supplies. Not to forget that Diane Feinstein just in the last two days has introduced another assault weapons ban. Clearly democrats have declared war on the 2nd Amendment and people are scared they may win.
"Time to return to some basic economics. A shortage of supply during a period of high demand does what, class? Increases the price."
I'm not sure what is actually causing the shortage, but you're not applying this economic principle correctly. The consumer isn't buying the metal, the ammo manufacturers are. Ammo doesn't sell at "MKT PRICE" like fish at a seafood restaurant. Metal is purchased by the manufacturers when prices are low to insure that they have a target profit margin. They stop buying when prices get too high, otherwise they risk selling at a loss. And since price collusion is illegal, they can't risk pushing their ammo prices above the competition.
It's the same theory as to why the McRib isn't always available. When pork prices bottom out, McDonald's buys pork to make as much as they can. Though McDonald's denies this.
The answer to the shortage is probably multi-factored. Manufacturers are probably struggling with higher raw material costs, production shortages with COVID related plant shutdowns, shipping delays, and high demand from doomsday gun owners.
It's not rocket science.
Sorry, but I know a well respected and honorable health care professional who had a table there and it happened.
Price of ammo is up? Oh cry me a river. The price of bungee cords at Harbor Freight is at an all time low. Just tie one end of the bungee to your pistol and the other to your wrist. When the going gets really tough just throw your pistol at your assailant with no doubts as to retrieving it.
Now, anybody want to school me on the current economics and price of LIVE CRAWFISH?!
It’s like there was never a trade war...
All hail the mango messiah
That's why I told you what he said. I may go down there tomorrow and ask about it.

The danger of over-reacting and upping production is that you finally meet demand and then demand crumples and you're stuck with a lot of product that won't move fast enough. Then you're in for a world of hurt as you have to cut production to meet demand.

I don't own enough HiPoints otherwise I would.
KF - Stop at the booth of the gentleman selling steel targets and ask him. It all probably happened before Wade arrived. I don't doubt his word (or yours).
the Mayor and Kenny Smokes are supposed to be coming Sunday to protest at the show- word from a dealer
When Democrat idiot politicians cheat to get in office while yelling defund the police, it’s time to stock up on ammo. The dual justice system only protects the criminals and the wealthy. Sometimes, those are the same.
Leftist Democrats always have a propaganda scam in place to blame -
taking the spot light off of their evil and ineptness -
i.e. violent crime is extremely high in areas like Jackson that Leftist Democrats control -
while violent crime is extremely low in neighboring areas managed by Republicans -
but it is still the gun shows fault.
Takes a high level of Darwin Award constituents to believe these Leftist Democrat scams -
but keeping their people dumbed down and their education systems propagandized solves that problem as their gullible sheep always oblige.
Regarding the misinformation reporting by ill-informed and/or corrupt so-called journalists -
Same ol’ same ol’.
11:05 - That would go over about like Trump holding up a Bible in front of a church. Or Clinton doing the same years earlier. Stokes showing up at a gun show would be the biggest advertisement the show could hope for.
3:32 - That's real cool. Tell us about your high-sack of auto parts. I may need to buy up some tail-light bulbs. And one never can have enough blinker-fluid. Thanks for the tip.
Here's another area of concern. 2013 Last Primary US Lead Smelter closes because of EPA regulations...
St. Louis-based Doe Run Co., the world’s third-largest producer of lead from mines, said it will stop smelting operations as part of a $65 million agreement with the U.S Environmental Protection Agency and the state of Missouri. The company has operated the facility since 1986.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/2013/12/23/the-last-lead-smelter-in-the-us-closes-because-the-hippies-won/
There are still secondary Lead Smelters, but they depend solely on recycled lead input.
Several decades ago when the recycling Push heightened, some paper companies built paper mills that were designed to use only recycled product. This eliminates the woodyard, debarker, chipper, lime kiln, pulp digester, powerhouse and saved a huge amount of capital construction cost. Then the cost of recycled material went through the roof & it was more expensive to produce paper in these plants than traditional pulp wood fed mills because of the rock bottom cost of juvenile pine wood from plantations.
Metal prices are more stable than they were in 2019.
Political rhetoric is has zero affect on corporate decisions unless the CEO's decide it's an opportunity to manipulate the market. Only political actions that might succeed do.
Politicians recognize Quixotic bills. What bill did you see that would threaten the ammo market. KF?
Fear of shortages drives up demand.
So tell me why you think the ammo CEO's are better sources of information? They lack bias? They wouldn't benefit from fear of shortages? Shortages can't be contrived?
And, I cracked up seeing the population of Jackson actually cited on national news as 82%. It's actually down from 60%.
I'm in Jackson and I'm not afraid. Good Lord people, look where actually crime happens. My neighborhood hasn't had a crime in 20 years...not ONE.
How come y'all aren't more worried about Gulfport's jump in crime? It increased more than Jackson's did.
Multiple dealers/exhibitors mentioned it on social media.
This is a big pop show. Chancellor is promoter.
Regarding the protest, I doubt Edwin Taliaferro Jr would lower himself to do that; besides, he's too busy passing out donated bottles of water.
Now, Kenny on the other hand? You bet he would. But I dont think the wahabi temple is in his ward.
Q: would this new ordinance apply to shows on the state fairgrounds? Beans out of east TN (newest generation interviewed by jtv Jade Bulecza on the "jtv investigates: gunshows" ) and New South put em on at trademart.
@12:08pm - Because coast trash crime doesn’t affect the value of my properties in Madison. And when it comes down to it, it’s only about money and getting mines. I don’t give a shit about people outside of myself and very limited family members.
@3:32
Maybe you should stick to whatever passes for your job and stay away from economic predictions.
Gold is DOWN $200 from its bubble top a few months back.
Bitcoin is in the middle of a MASSIVE bubble.
The dollar is doing just fine. Take a chill pill and grab a starbucks.
In the 90s I spent about $1,000 buying various trendy firearms from financially desperate people. From 2019 'till 2020 I sold those firearms for well over $12,000 to dealers who will resell them for a profit. How does that fit into the firearms market trends espoused here?
@1:36AM
I am guessing you get you get all your financial opinions from cable TV.
How much longer do you think the dollar will be propped up as the global petrodollar reserve currency while every single automaker on the planet is set to begin rollout of their EV fleet in 2022?
And that is all that keeps the US Dollar propped up. OPEC sells oil in USD$
@12:08
And a swing and a miss! Financial information is abundantly found in books, the things at libraries, filled with pages made from paper, and covered in words, facts, charts, history, and other information.
@Better Than Ever
Aren’t you that clown who was so hilariously wrong with your Covid-19 fear mongering last year?
@4:51
If you are referring to my posts, I made several regarding c-19, then gave up trying to educate the idiots here. Given your trolling post, then yes, I include you in that group.
Hilariously wrong? That's false. MS healthcare system came withing a hair's breadth of cratering despite mitigation efforts. And currently, the 7 day moving average is UP 20% from its low of a couple of weeks ago. So we are on the way back up, yet again, and this is spring break week also.
Faux Noooz must be the source on ammunition shortages and high prices? They ignore the shutdown of refineries by ice storms as the cause of gasoline prices rising and blame the White House instead.
