Jackson loses a round in airport fight.

The City of Jackson will have to watch the fight in federal court over control of the airport from the sidelines.  U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves dismissed Jackson from Stallworth et al v. Governor Phil Bryant, et al today.  He said the City of Jackson had no standing to fight the state takeover of the airport in federal court.  The FAA nor any other federal agency had taken any action regarding the municipal airport.  Thus no federal question existed.  He also ruled the legislature's actions did not violate Jackson's due process or other constitutional rights.  JMAA remains a party to the lawsuit.

So Reeves shitcanned 3 (maybe 4) of the 8 counts of this bogus lawsuit? So that means the 5th Circuit will not have to reverse him on those counts. We'll see if the 5th Circuit has any work to do when he rules on the remaining bogus claims.

I'm no lawyer, but it sounds odd that the entity that owns the airport has 'no standing' in a lawsuit involving the airport's future. Please explain.

It's the people's airport!

It's Kenny Stokes' airport!

FREE THE AIRPORT, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!!

Kennuf called the rankin sheriff a hog headed lyin bastard. What do you expect? Jackson can't run the city much less run an airport

Anonymous said...

Seems like the City of Jackson is perfectly capable of running an airport. Into the ground. Look how great the city itself has been run. Into the ground.

Anonymous said...

Easy now...Kennuf was instrumental in getting a Dunkin' Donuts at the airport - I think they thought he might be one of their best customers.

PSA

Jackson hasn't been run into the ground.

Jackson was left to rot by white people who didn't want to send kids to school with "coloreds"

When you run from your problems....the problems do not go away....they get worse.

I fly for work almost every week and JAN is one of the worst airports in the nation. No options and poor amenities. To fly to Orlando for work cost over $1,000 after taxes. The same flight direct from MSY was $300.

When a handful of airlines corner the market and there is no competition this becomes problematic. But, I guess this is what you get when a DJ and a nurse are calling the shots and running an airport.

The question before the court is not justiciable because there's no standing. The controversy doesn't involve the FAA or any other federal entity. It's between the state and the city. I can't believe the city attorneys threw this up against the wall to only watch it miserably slide down.

Why are we even discussing this. I want more on the OM and Freeze story which are much more relevant to our safety, well being, and economic development standing in this shit poor state.

Who cares? Southwest isn't coming back, no matter who runs the joint.

Anonymous said...

Jackson's airport is not bad. It is quite good compared to comparable airports. The flight selection is bad because the metro area sucks demographically. But go ahead and compare us to New Orleans.

justiciable....

Hold on...

9:31 pm I'm a frequent flyer and I think you must not travel to a variety of places! Jackson is hardly the worst airport. Indeed, I like it very much.
There are not long lines . The personnel are helpful and the service is not as slow as at most airports. The restrooms are always clean. The parking is close.
The " amenities" are what one would expect from an airport that isn't a hub.
Your expectations are not based on reality. By that, I mean that you don't seem to have bothered to find out that the expense of tickets and lack of amenities is not uncommon to airports in cities of this size that don't have high traffic due to being a tourist destination.
I frankly think only a fool would think of an airport as a good place to shop or eat anyway. I guess you miss McDonalds and feel Brooks Brothers in airports are the same as really going to a Brooks Brothers.

I agree with 7:29 (excepting the snarky, assholish last paragraph). Our airport, on the whole, is operated decently, despite its subpar board leadership. I am very favorably impressed with Carl Newman, however. The airport scored a winner in Carl. If improved carrier routes and additional services are secured, it will be in large measure due to Carl's efforts and reputation. I believe that Carl's job would be easier if he was surrounded by better qualified commissioners. First impressions are critical. The current board membership is depressingly unimpressive. Unfortunately, the fight over the structure and make-up of the leadership of the airport is not about securing competent board membership. It is about controlling development of the 1,600 acres surrounding the airport, about 800-1,000 of which is prime commercial development area.

Not entirely. The majority of this issue is another US vs. THEM Jacktown squabble.

Dey might put some perssion on dem planes.

If Jackson can't fill a pot hole, what makes anyone think they can run an airport. Oh, by the way, congratulations are in order for the city of Jackson for adding speed bumps to streets which are already impassable.

7:29 good one on the Brooks Brothers comment. Funny

These negative posts on the airport have to be from people that don't fly much. Look at comparable sized cities and you will find the exact same pricing and options. And quit comparing flight options to New Orleans.

Anonymous said...

You're saying that only white people can avoid rot?

Anonymous said...

Only a frequent flying fool would quit comparing flight options available via New Orleans and/or Memphis.

Anonymous said...

Delusions of grandeur won't bring more flight options. No airline will look at the metro and think "Wow, that's a booming metropolis with a lot of people with disposable income who love to travel." No amount of faux stucco cell towers will fix that.

Anonymous said...

What difference does it make? Obviously with the new state imposed board, Happy days are here again! The airport will soon have numerous new routes, Southwest will be coming back and Jackson's airport will have restaurants and bistros to rival anything you see in Memphis, Nashville, or New Orleans. Now that Kenny Stokes no longer runs the airport there'll be no more potholes in the runways.
Go Mississippi!

Movement, thank God!
The City is such a joke. The first expenditure of Lamumba was probably to get his name up on the sign. I am sure he used his name, every single one of them.

Please hurry and move on this Reeves, I can hear Carl Newman screaming for some help.

Anonymous said...

2:03 Good Point. The new board should take his name down and put Allen C. Thompson back where it belongs. That way people will know Jackson is back in business. Colored and White water fountains and restrooms would help. By damn.

I was flying out of Jackson some years ago. We were the first Delta flight out that morning. At about 6 in the morning we were scheduled to take off. They would not fly the plane because the previous nights cleaning or electrical personnel had left a "fuse box" open. They postponed the flight for about 3 hours, obviously messing up virtually every schedule, and of course mine.

Anonymous said...

I'd be pissed off too if they delayed my flight because of some stupid fuse box.
They should not have inconvenienced you like that. What the hell were they afraid
of? Electrical failure? Big deal!

Anonymous said...

Yes 928. And that minor little fuse box issue that inconvenienced you was not at all related to the airport. That was a function / result of the airline.

Understanding the difference would be a good starting point before you jump into a discussion Try it next time before your itchy fingers make a fool out of you again.

FREE Carl Newman from the total dysfunction that is Jackson.

FREE Carl Newman.

If you don't like our airport you don't have to use it.

I didn't want to drive, but saved $500 flying to MIA out of NOLA on AA, and it was a nonstop flight.

I55 and 310 into the airport was smooth as silk and cheap parking across the street with 24 hour shuttle.

Grabbed an oyster poboy on the rebound!

It's your fare, so be there!

If they would re-open the Travelodge inside the airport, traffic would soar.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
