Bobo to plead guilty.

Josh Bobo entered a petition to plead guilty to one count of unarmed carjacking and one count of simple robbery on December 29, 2014.  A grand jury indicted him for carjacking and armed robbery last September for a violent rampage that took place at the Ridgeland Wal-Mart in January 2014.   District Attorney Michael Guest recommended Mr. Bobo be incarcerated for 15 years with 5 years suspended.  The petition and indictment are posted below.

Credit: WAPT
Ridgeland police arrested the 28-year old man after he stabbed Jenna Lunsford, a Wal-mart pharmacist, with a syringe and stole pills from Wal-mart.  He then allegedly stopped a 2006 Stratus driven by Betty Davis.  He pulled the elderly lady out of the vehicle while in the Wal-mart parking lot.  He then went back in the store and swallowed hydrogen peroxide and some pills.

Mr. Bobo states he was "off of his medications and delusional" when the alleged events took place.

Mr. Bobo was on probation when the alleged events took place.  A Rankin County judge sentenced Mr. Bobo to five years supervised probation and ordered him subjected to drug testing after accepting his guilty plea of attempted grand larceny as  part of a lesser included charge of burglary of a dwelling on July 8, 2013.  Oddly enough, the suspect passed a drug test the day before the alleged events took place in Ridgeland.  Mr. Bobo was arrested after he worked for the city of Pearl checking meters. Apparently Mr. Bobo entered a residence and swiped some beer from the fridge.  Charges were pressed against Mr. Bobo, hence the conviction.

The incident took place one day before he engaged police and family members in a  standoff at the Palisades subdivision by the Reservoir.  Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey stated in a press release last year:

Rankin County deputies responded to the area and were met by the suspect’s parents who stated that their son was threatening suicide with a rifle and had threatened them with the rifle. The parents fled the residence in fear for their safety. While on the scene near the residence deputies were threatened to be shot by the suspect if they approached the residence. Deputies on scene called for additional backup and secured the immediate area around the residence.
Mr. Bobo served six months in the Rankin County jail for the threats against the police.  A Rankin County judge revoked his probation. Mr. Bobo awaits sentencing and faces up to ten years a prison and a fine of $10,000 or less if probation is revoked for the Rankin County conviction.

Mr. Bobo has a history of such behavior:

*Assault on a police officer.  Threatened to shoot a deputy at the Palisades standoff a year ago.  He served six months in the Rankin County jail from January to July. Standoff on January 5, 2013
* Assault Domestic Violence (Misdemeanor). Threatened to shoot family members in the Palisades standoff.  The charge was remanded to the file. In other words, he was not prosecuted at the request of the family members.
*Attempted Grand larceny (Felony). January 4, 2013. Pleaded guilty.  5 years unsupervised probation. Served 48 hours in jail in September for failing to appear for a drug test.
*Driving with a suspended license/Failure to appear in court. July 1, 2010. Remanded to file.
*Assault Domestic Violence (Misdemeanor). February 2, 2008. Guilty. $469 fine and court costs.
*Domestic Violence/Simple Assault (Misdemeanor). June 22, 2008. Remanded to file.
*Seatbelt violation. May 24, 2008. Fine: $35.

Lock him up!

Absolutely hate this for the family, but for the sake of the rest of us, he's got to go away.

We don't need this kind of crime splling over from the cesspool that is Ridgeland into Jackson. Lock that thug up!

He did it in Madison and Rankin because he feared getting caught in Hinds.

Jackson Academy class of 2004.

Just goes to show you what money can do. He didn't attend until high school. He brought a lot of drugs with him. There's no hope for this idiot. Never has been. I think the best use for him is to employ him at a Korean sweatshop.

I know of at least one family that is enduring terrible times because of the substances this boy brought with him and distributed when he showed up at JA.

"He did it in Madison and Rankin because he feared getting caught in Hinds. "

Seriously? Has anyone EVER feared getting caught in the revolving doors of the Hinds County legal system?

very lenient sentence recommendation considering his past. hopefully the judge will impose more time.

str8 drop! i'm sure he's done it before! throw away the key..

He is still getting ten years.

Anonymous said...

Ten years isn't enough. He should be entirely removed from society. Prison will make him worst. I bet he gets time added on for poor behavior in prison.

I'd have to say that the "family member" that partook of the substances Bobo brought with him bears responsibility for their own actions.

Hey 11:03am...they are still experiencing problems 10 years later? Maybe if they didn't assign blame to others and actually held their kid and themselves responsible, it would stop. I don't know this cat, and I don't know who you are talking about, but I seriously doubt this guy held anyone down and forced substances into their body. And if you think this guy was the only source that could have been the downfall of whomever you are referring to, then your head is much deeper in the sand than such an asinine statement would lend one to believe.

Glad this thug will be off the street.

He looks smart.

In my opinion, he was another Bell or Kuebler in the making.

But, The Family said...

Enough with the whining! Who cares who this perps dad is? Clyde Barrow's dad was a nice guy too.

Kingfish said...

We care because if you look at his criminal history, he's been on a catch and release program as well. The question is how much did his dad enable the behavior due to his position in Rankin County politics. When he becomes a physical threat, then its our problem. Fair enough?

But, The Family said...

I'm speaking to the people who for years have whined about how unfortunate this is 'for the family' because his dad is such a standup guy and so popular. I don't care who his dad is. If you do, that's your problem. He should be dealt with simply as the criminal actor he is, notwithstanding his bloodline or what enabled his behavior.

Somebody or something enables the behavior of EVERY bad actor. This one is no different (notwithstanding the silver spoon). Fair enough?

I don't know the family so I can't speculate.

But, there are children who are born with disorders that the average parent cannot handle.

We once were able to provide institutionalize settings where such children could be constantly supervised by trained professionals and could receive help.

The " help" for family members faced with sociopathic children or mentally ill children has all but disappeared and once they are adults, it is impossible to do more than walk through revolving doors.

The legal system doesn't understand that " being a threat to themselves or others" shouldn't be interpreted as " physical harm must take place" . Until our legislators and courts understand that these competency/threat decisions should be based on medical and psychiatric evaluations done in such a way as to protect the individual, we will continue to suffer from the havoc caused by disturbed individuals.

It was never intended that an individual could pursue their rights as the expense of the rights of others. Nor was it literally assumed all were born with equal abilities but rather that all should be born with equal social status and opportunities and the chance to improve their lot in life!

It is sad for the family. I'm wondering are lawyers kids more prone to poor outcomes? Busy parents? Broken homes? Access to money/alcohol/drugs? And the ability or thought that parents will get them out of trouble. Not judging. Just curious about the stats here. Is there a pattern?

Hey 9:07 AM
What about all the kids with "poor outcomes" who come from the traditional, two parent Beaver Cleaver homes? You know, good homes but with lower middle class incomes but who sacrifice to have a "stay at home parent".... Just curious, is there a pattern?

KF, I am lucky enough to have known both him and Kuebler personally. Bobo's issues are much more attributable to mental illness, whereas Louie was just a straight up psychopath. Not excusing Bobo's behavior in any way, just trying to draw a distinction between the two a little bit.

A "straight up psychopath" is not mentally ill?

Anonymous said...

7:36 - Of course, but the point I was trying to make is they fall in different places along the spectrum of mental illnesses. Surely you understand the difference between, say, a paranoid schizophrenic guy with a scrambled brain who hears voices and kills somebody, and a Ted Bundy-kind of serial killer. Yeah, both are crazy, mentally ill, whatever, but there is obviously a distinction between the two. It definitely sounds like Kuebler and Bell are cut from the same cloth though.

Knowing that transparency is apparently a one way street for this blogger and that he seems to have some strange love affair with Jim Bobo (the apple doesn't fall far from the tree), I offer the following: Why hasn't anyone looked into why the city of pearl has repeatedly employed josh bobo to carry out duties dangerous to its citizens such as reading water meters and general spying on its citizens?

I know you won't publish this but it proves a theory.

5:31 is "lucky enough to have known both him and Kuebler personally. Bobo's issues are much more attributable to mental illness, whereas Louie was just a straight up psychopath."

I'm not sure about your luck, 5:31, but you might be lucky you were not harmed while 'knowing' them. And if you don't believe 'a straight up sociopath' is mentally ill and a danger to society, you've got a special problem to deal with.

Is it not amazing the City of Pearl has a registered democrat city attorney running a municipality in one of the most conservative counties in Mississippi?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
