UPDATE (3:10 PM) Brandon Police Chief Joseph French said all suspects surrendered. The boys were charged with simple assault while a girl was charged with conspiracy. The Rankin County Youth Court will adjudicate the charges.
A group of young men beat up another young man in Brandon Saturday night. The uncle of the victim posted this video on social media.
The video and accompanying statements were later removed. Brandon Police Chief Joseph French said he was aware of the video but no one had filed a complaint - yet.

He and several of his buddies, picked up my nephew from his house, all alone, and drove him to Shiloh Park to jump on him! My nephew just moved here trying to fit in and make friends, and this is how he's done! Well, I tell you right now his father and I are going to paint the town red! Scorched earth! I know there kids!!! But I want some adults to fell me and my brother's wrath!! We'll take dad, uncles, big brothers! Hell, the entire NWR community!
One can hardly blame the uncle for being so upset. Hopefully cooler heads prevail and justice is visited upon these little goons.
Update: The victim's father discussed the incident WYAB's Clay Edwards Show this morning. His son is the new kid at school. Some girl called him, the goons picked him up, and took him to Shiloh Park where all hell broke loose.
Thankfully the boy suffered only some scraped knees and sore ribs. His father said his son was on the wrestling team when they lived in another city. He grabbed the attacker and used him as a shield as the beatdown took place.
The police are involved and charges will probably be filed against the little goons.

If these students are from NWR I am not surprised. NWR has turned into a dump. My brother in law teaches there and coaches. He states the place is a total cluster.
Not that this couldn't happen anywhere, but this is why Madison > Rankin when Rankin has all the obvious advantages.
I grew up in 39047 and moved to Madison to raise my family. The transient population of Brandon and the Reservoir area makes what could be the best area of the state a little trashier. Throw in a little good ol boy system and Rankin becomes a less desirable place to live.
My parents used to jab at Mayor Mary growing up. Now they are wanting to sell their Reservoir home and move to Madison. University Christian was a joke of a school when I was growing up - why go to UCS when we have Northwest Rankin. Now Hartfield is competing with Prep.
Rankin County needs to clean up its trash, quickly.

@9:09 it's the REZ that needs to clean up their trash. I moved to Brandon proper after being raised at the REZ and going to NWR. I couldn't be happier with the choice. All of the houses along spillway road are occupied with renters and meth heads. You can't lump 39042 in with 39047. The blame sits squarely with the Pearl River Valley Authority. They have let everything go and do a poor job with managing the area.

I can vouch for how bad PRV is making the rez. It’s an amalgam of ignorant good ole boys that have nearly zero accountability for their mismanagement of the area. 1. Take the word of an old black belt - never, ever agree to fight a school trained wrestler. If you don’t initially take them out they will grab you and pull a body part in a direction it isn’t supposed to go. Tapping out isn’t an option in a street fight.

No, I don't remember anything remotely like this ever happening in HS. People have gone completely nuts. There is no "both sides" to be heard. This is 5 on 1. This is assault. Parents should be charged along with the girl involved and her parents.
The comments regarding BHS versus NWRHS make it very apparent that not many have spent extensive amounts of time at both schools the past few years, which renders their current opinions comparing the two in 2024 less than reliable. Respectfully.
Coming from someone who has been on both campuses a lot with initially a completely objective viewpoint, I can safely say at this point with complete and unwavering confidence that the behavior at NWRHS during school hours is substantially better than that of BHS. So much so that it’s been shocking to me that they’re even in the same town and so close to one another.
I hate that this group of boys has publicly tarnished the reputation of NWRHS the way that they have because I have personally seen that NWRHS is run extremely well. Hats off to NWRHS administrators for running such a tight ship, and I mean that. For such a large school, it’s amazing. Don’t let the behavior of a group of thugs doing something outside of school hours in one social media video affect the perception of NWRHS and how well it is run.
