Former police officer Anthony Fox is a free man. The Mississippi Court of Appeals reversed his conviction for culpable manslaughter last week. The Court issued a mandate to set him free today.
The Court had 21 days to issue the mandate after the ruling last week. Fox filed a motion to expedite the mandate yesterday. He is now a free man.

Good for him!!
Great news!
Yes, 2:16 but also Good for the Court of Appeals.
The ruling last week was a good one.
Issuing the mandate today was also a proper move to make. Glad the COA took this action quickly.
the jailers knew he was absolved but kept him locked up. power corrupts
Lumumbas are Losers.
Not quite 4:17 - the action of the Court does not take affect until after 21 days, to allow the other side to appeal - but since in this case the only person that could appeal was the AG, who had already conceded error in the case before the COA, so the 21 days was not a requirement. But it did take a mandate issued by the Court to open the doors.
I guess I'll go ahead and ask the dumb question. If the court made him a free man last week, why is he just now being released?
I hope he invites “Judge” Wooten to his release party!
The jailers can’t do anything without an order from a court.
@5:27, the court’s ruling has to be certified, then release is processed. Not just a matter of opening the cell door.
He should have a very good wrongful imprisonment case. Since your AG confessed Flower’s suit this one ought to be a sure thing.
I find it so hard to believe that so many folks are promoting that Anthony Fox is innocent. Witness testified that he and two other cops pulled Mr Robinson from his car and beat him. Come on folks, the man died. He's someone brother and a murder place here. So what is the difference between Mr. Robinson death and that of George Floyd ? None, they both were KILLED by cops. Shame on you Lynn Fitch.
@10:16 - it’s a poor black man that died, most of the commenters here don’t think he had any right to live and don’t care how he died. They feel the same about George Floyd. You can bet if AG Fitch was on Floyd’s case, no charges would have been filed by the state.
I see that Adrienne and Jody have chimed in on this thread.
@12:32- I wonder what the outcome would have been if the victim had not been African American ? You already know, Mr. Fox and the other two would be under the jail. Case closed !......
He was NOT beaten. The autopsy showed no signs of a beating. No bruises, no broken ribs. The prosecution's theory wasn't that he was beaten. They knew their own witnesses were lying about the beating because the autopsy proved there was no beating. So, prior to trial, the DA moved to amend the indictment. Here's the pertinent language from that motion -
The indictment contains surplusage language, as it states the Defendant “body” slammed the Victim, George Robinson, “as well as striking and kicking George Robinson multiple times in the head and chest.”
3. Instead, the State asks this Court to allow for remove of such language being that it is repetitive in nature and surplusage.
4. The amended indictment would read as such, “Anthony Gerald Fox, while serving as a City of Jackson Police Office and/or while acting in concert and/or aiding, assisting or encouraging other City of Jackson Police Officers, used physical force on George
Robinson, causing George Robinson’s death which included physically removing him from his vehicle and slamming George Robinson’s head into the roadway pavement, whether occurring individually and/or cumulatively, that were eminently dangerous to George Robinson and evincing a depraved heart, regardless of human life, all occurring
withing the jurisdiction of this court and in violation of Section 97-3-19(1)(b) . . . .”
SO EVERYONE CLAIMING HE WAS BEATEN - that's not even the prosecution's theory of the case. YOU CAN STOP NOW.
Just because two friends of deceased said the cops beat him is not proof it cause his death. There was medical evidence that said otherwise.
Tell me, how come the Justice Department did not prosecute Fox? How come the FBI report cleared him?
How mad are Rukia, Jody and Adrienne that they cannot play the race card here?
No matter how many times they invoke the George Floyd name, this case with a black cop and black criminal just won't get them the headlines they crave.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion...none of us was there. But all I'm saying is that a man died and it was not suicide according to the autopsy.
On January 13, 2019, George Robinson, a 62-year-old Black man, died two days after a violent arrest by three Black police officers in Jackson, Mississippi. According to a grand jury indictment, the officers pulled Robinson out of a car, threw him headfirst into the pavement, and struck and kicked him multiple times in the head and chest. Robinson was treated at the scene but within hours lost consciousness and later died at a hospital. The state coroner ruled the death a homicide.
SO JANE YOU CAN STOP NOW......IT'S NOT OVER
IF IT WASN'T FOR BODY CAMERAS...A LOT OF THESE DIRTY COPS WILL GET AWAY WITH MURDER. FACT !
And if it weren't for body cameras, alot of people like you would not be able to falsely accuse police officers. Fact!.
And don't write in all caps. Won't approve it next time if you do.
3:01 - do you have the transcript? Because I do. Those witnesses lied. They lied to the grand jury and they lied at trial. As I stated above, the prosecution did not believe them. The pathologist ONLY ruled it a homicide because he was wrongly told Robinson was assaulted by law enforcement officers based on the liars. So you can quit talking about a beating. The prosecutors don't believe he was beaten. Only the liars and idiots are keeping this false narrative of a beating.
There are major ethical issues when a lawyer puts a witness on the stand and knows the witness is lying. That's exactly what the prosecutors did here. They dropped any theory of a beating prior to trial but they put those lying witnesses on anyway and tried to get them to testify that what they saw was a bodyslam. Those prosecutors were not seeking the truth. The entire case was a witch hunt.
the people that refuse to accept that the facts of this case undeniably support his innocence deserve to be wrongfully accused themselves someday and face City of Jackson juror-justice.
@4:00 - the opposite is also true, those who want to deny that police ever should be held accountable deserve to have their loved ones beaten to death by police, convicted by a jury, then have that conviction thrown out by an appeals court on shaky grounds. Let’s be honest, a lot more cops get away with murder than are even charged. That pendulum needs to swing in the favor of justice and that means a lot more officers being tried and convicted when they act illegally. When one group has been above the law for so long, and then the government decides to arbitrarily overturn the few that are convicted, it reeks of the same inequitable system that has plagued the justice system in this country and stat for its entire existence.
@2:52 Kingfish - since when is the justice department or FBI known for holding bad cops accountable? Also, where can we find the body cam footage for this case? I never saw it posted so I’m guessing the officers either didn’t have cameras or chose not to turn them on.
@4:55. Umm. Did you miss the whole Goon Squad episode?
Sheeple see what they believe
Ya'll realize that every person released from prison after an investigation exonerated them was convicted by a unanimous jury? Are you really contending that juries NEVER get it wrong?
Fox supporters aren't advocates for abuse by police. We want the justice system to be fair for everyone. What you can't understand was that there was no beating. The prosecution did not contend that Robinson was beaten. That is a fact. If you want to argue about that you are proving you don't care one iota about the facts. If you insist on arguing a reality that doesn't exist, your opinion - which you are entitled to have - is completely worthless.
Excellent posts, Jane. Thank you.
You are welcome. I've been a criminal defense attorney for 37 years. My interest is in seeing that the system is just for everybody. The prosecution of Anthony Fox was instigated by a mayor who does not believe in law enforcement and prosecuted by an attorney who knows almost nothing about criminal law and resigned from the Southern Poverty Law Center after multiple allegations of sexual harassment were lodged against him. They prosecuted Fox knowing that the witnesses who said Robinson was beaten were making that up. One of those witnesses was a man who went to prison after Fox arrested him for a drug crime. Lumumba thinks that going after cops may make him a superstar in this City and he might be right. If so, citizens are getting the anarchy they deserve but prosecuting an innocent man to achieve anarchy is beyond the pale and I am glad that they have been shown to be exactly who they are. They will do anything to get what they want and if innocent people are harmed or even ruined, so be it. Every decent human being should oppose them.
I appreciate words and your service Jane.
I know it must be thankless at times and it has to be difficult with the whole Lamumbles machine against your goals. God bless you for not letting this man be scarified on the Mayor's altar to anarchy.
