Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said he is running for re-election in 2025 at his regular press conference today. Some highlights of the press conference are:
* Planning & Zoning Director Chloe Dotson is leaving her position for a "promotion" the city could not match.
* Library system update: Mayor Lumumba said "The city is working with the library board and the executive director of the library system. We are working on proposals to address the AC which is at the Medgar Evers library. We are also we have proposals to address the damage done by broken pipes at the willie Morris library. And we are also assessing the vandalism that was done at the Richard Wright Museum, which is shameful that someone would not only, you know, create destruction and one of our city facilities, but more importantly, something that is meant to be an asset and a benefit to the community."
* Mayor Lumumba provided an update on the garbage contract: "The the curbside, or the curbside pickup contract, the RFP The committee met last week, they scored and selected a winner that has not been presented to me, I'm expecting them to present that to me this week. So the process is still going as is time should go. I don't know if illegal has to touch that or what has to go through there. But I'm expecting their submission this week. And after that, I will then provide it to the council. So they did meet. They did go over their scores. And they will be presenting that selection this week. And I will be happy to not only inform you the public and the media, but also presented to the council."
* WLBT's Anthony Warren asked Hizzoner if he is running for re-election. The Mayor said "But I will say that as it stands today, it is certainly my intent to run again. Right. If anything changes with that, I'll notify you."

There must be a few years of potential grifting remaining. Right?
He’s had no real opposition the last two races. You would think someone competent could run and get enough votes from Eastover and Belhaven to win. I think Chokwe had something like 13k votes.
For whomever runs against him, the campaign slogan should be "Takin' Out the Trash".
A city rotten to the core, run by criminals and rife with issues making life miserable. Guess that means the voters will keep him.
The destruction of Jackson is not complete. Four more years, four more years!
If we lived in Jackson, I would run my dog. He has a lot of yellow dog pooch appeal and seems like the most honest dog I know.
Good! My house in Madison just went up another $25k.
He'll win a landslide. In politics, past results have no bearing on getting reelected.
So now we will find out if the people of Jackson really want Lumumba at the helm, now that they have had the opportunity to become fully aware of what he's really about.
He won the last election with 18% of the voting age population going to the polls. Jackson: fix yourself.
Chokme gonna win by 60+% of the vote. It’s already a done deal.
@ 7:20 pm, I will vote for your dog before I would vote for Little Lord Fauntleroy aka Chowkie. I voted against him the last 2 times he ran and I'm not about to stop.
I am bracing myself for the royal screwing he is about to visit on us with the garbage contract. I don't know if there is any way to stop it. Even if the council votes it down, they can't make him bring forward a better option for a vote. That has become very apparent. He knows it too and is EXPLOITING the loophole to the fullest. The state legislature needs to fix this, but so far, they lack the balls. It's a sad day when a pantywaist like Chowkie has more cajones than they do, but that's where we are. God help us.
Let’s just be honest.. Antar has been the worst Mayor Jackson has EVER had. From hiding criminal stats, from his top department heads leaving in droves every other month, and instead of focusing on actual citizen concerns like CRIME or PAVED STREETS, this guy proceeds to an all out war about a garbage contract… and he is so narcissistic that he doesn’t even understand how he has NO chance in an upcoming election, my god

I guess he has found no one else that will have him with deeper pockets.
If Lumumba wins again then I will have zero sympathy for Jackson's residents.
Of course he's running for re-election, where else can you make $100K and do nothing.
Hey 7:31, your house in Madison would be worth a lot more if the city itself was growing like Birmingham, Nashville, Chattanooga, Atlanta. Pulling against the state Capitol when you live within 10 miles of it is as short sighted as it comes but that’s sadly a common theme around here.
With that being said, Chokwe is the worst and most incompetent mayor Jackson has and hopefully will ever have
" And we are also assessing the vandalism that was done at the Richard Wright Museum, which is shameful that someone would not only, you know, create destruction and one of our city facilities, but more importantly, something that is meant to be an asset and a benefit to the community."
Antar makes me laugh-out-loud again.
He obviously knows nothing about Richard Wight.
Wight left Mississippi faster than any intelligent Black or White folks "getting the hell out" of Hinds County.

I don't think you understand, he'll win by a landslide. He's who that majority of Jxn voters want. Get out of your Belhaven/Fondren bubble.
Does anyone think a fair election could ever be had in Jackson?
Less than 20% voter turn out he can payout $100 bucks each and secure enough votes to win. If voted in the city will continue to get what it deserves.
Biggest issue now is he won’t have anyone run against him, at least not semi-worthy.
"My house in Madison just went up another $25k."
Which only raises your taxes and doesn't do you a bit of good unless you sell or borrow against it.
Legislature should dissolve Jackson's charter. They won't do it because they are bunch of pussy cuckservatives.
He loses re-election. Rukia showed the way.
Speech in House of Commons, May 7, 1940 addressed by Leopold Amery, an MP, to Neville
Chamberlain, the present Prime Minister, and paraphrased from Cromwell’s speech to the Rump parliament in 1653:
“You have sat too long here for any good that you have been doing! Depart, I say, and let us have done with you! In the name of God, go! You shall give place to better men.”
There’s an old saying about the world being a dangerous place to live, not because the people are evil, but because “the people do nothing about the evil.” Chokwe’s radical Jackson, MS (like so many other leftist Democrat controlled cities) could surely qualify as a poster child for this ingenious quote.
Almost 6 decades after Malcom X’s death, over 3 decades after the movie (with the incredibly talented actor Denzel Washington), and how many decades of leftist Democrat control of Jackson, MS?
Yet the voters able to facilitate change are still being had, they’re still being took, they’re still being hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray, run amok.
And the funny if not so sad thing is, the Chokwe’s are still being sent to pass the buck by the rich white Democrat politicians, so-called journalists and professors. It’s just a newer version of the same scam 6 decades later.
You want to see him beat, get a worthy opponent. Someone younger, not a retread, and we'll funded of course.
You hit it on the head Fish. Jackson’s biggest problem is that everyone wants to complain and hate. When will just one of them look in the mirror and standup. Even a white person could win if their heart was in the right place. Show me your vision, roll up your sleeves, put the waders on and do good and you will be rewarded. Sit back bitch and moan and you will be on a crowded couch!
Democrat elite in MS love poor public schools which produce dependable voters for their empty rhetoric and fake promises. Please encourage a rare smart Democrat to defeat this Mayor.
10:22, you’re right, please stay in Jackson where you’re taxes don’t ever go up.
You get the government you deserve.
9:28 is spot on. It seems most of our suburban population is oblivious to how far behind the Jackson Metro is compared to other southern Metros. Ignorance still reigns in Mississippi!
So he can keep this city moving forward in the wrong,I mean right direction. Right...
It's not like he could get honest work. He HAS to run for reelection.
KF forgot the most important qualities, the candidate must be a black democrat.
Many times have I crossed party lines to vote for the better candidate, black or white. Today's identity politics find merit to be a negative.
The radical new city. Like many others have mentioned it will be hard to continue to have sympathy for Jackson if they reelect clearly the worst Mayor in history of Jackson
"You would think someone competent could run and get enough votes from Eastover and Belhaven to win."
You must not have met any Belhaven residents? They live off in lala land even worse than the commie Mayor does. Of course since they agree with and favor his radical political ideology over basic competency, they will gladly be voting for him again.
Lot of work there working on being worked on, sounds like.
Re-elect a third world mayor and continue to have a third world city. Y'all complain but I don't see another candidate stepping up to the plate. Right?
I don't even live in Jackson, let alone Hinds County, and I would donate $1,000 to a decent candidates campaign.
9:28 pm - How exactly to you propose the suburbs pull "for" the City of Jackson? Especially when yall know the voters will re-elect the man that is almost single handedly ruining the city?
Its a shame Jeff Good/Wyatt Emmerich or some other Jackson crusader wont champion a better candidate. Fondren and NE Jxn has had years to find someone and put that old money behind them, yet crickets.
So good luck Jackson. And stop asking the suburbs to save you from your own horrible ELECTED officials. Because you will get 4 more years of Chuck, and you may as well like it.
I read where the mayor, talking about broken traffic signals yesterday, told his public “If you see something, say something.”
I see an incompetent politician serving as mayor of Jackson.
For the Goode of Jackson’s future, Jeff should take charge and do this.
They could have raw sewage running in the streets and no water an they will still re-elect him with 70%
Sad news for Jackson.
I understand his needing to run for reelection. His work is not quite done. There is more to do to make sure and completely destroy every single element of what was once a decent city.
He'll be wearing that vest out a lot more visiting his constituents trying to sweet talk them into thinking he cares. All he craves are their check mark in the box.
Jackson now is the time we can vote him out!
Crime
Water Crisis
Trash Overrunning
Infrastructure
School Closure
Businesses Leaving
Political Corruption
Know Better - Do Better - Vote Better
And knowing the intellect level of the average Jackson voter, he will be re-elected. Kim Wade keeps talking about possibly running, but he is considered a sell-out to whitey.
The L's are not invincible. When they've lost, it's been to someone who is young, lean and hungry, and well funded.
Yarber was a sitting Councilman from South Jackson, couldn't play Tom card on him as you could Priester with his Ivy League background. He was well funded the first time and could hold his own in public speaking and a debate.
Gibbs came from a known family in Jackson, well funded, and was young. Worked his ass off and ran an aggressive campaign. Helped that people in that district wanted to send a message to the Mayor.
Retreads aren't going to do it. Lumumba will crush them. Problem with some of the great white hypes is if they are going to run in that race and be serious about winning, they have to be willing to throw punches because heaven knows they are going to take punches. Got to put on the brass knuckles and be ready to go at it. Ben Allen would've been good but that frame up job took care of that as he washed his hands of Jackson and can't say I blame him.
Dear Jackson,
He is yours. I moved.
Ineptocracy: A system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid.
Many of the posters know very little about Jackson. A few things you should know. How many people living in Jackson can legally vote? A good percentage cannot vote because they lost their right to vote. Another good percentage are the criminally inclined who make their living by taking from others. Then we have the people who were educated in Jackson who cannot read and can only vote for the current mayor as that is the only name they can read. We can add all of the racists in Jackson who will only vote for a black man. That leaves about a dozen voters who can and will vote for someone else. That dozen will be easily defeated by one person belonging to the other groups who will vote a couple a dozed times.
@KF. What about Ben's son, Matt? Would he be a viable candidate, or did the circuit judge loss sour him too? I have also heard Brad Lum's name thrown around. He has definitely been active in the community the last few years.
What ever happened to Jonathan Lee? If I remember correctly, he was poised to beat Lumumba Sr. in 2013. The Lumumbas ran an emergency smear campaign on 99 JAMZ and the other stations, claiming that he was a closet Republican. That tactic seemed to do the trick. I was really excited about the possibility of Lee as mayor.
You can't beat his funding on a local level because his funding comes mostly from outside of the state from people who applaud his lack of leadership. They want the chaos. They are itching for a fight from "White Republican Mississippi" to the mostly black State Capital and it's Democrat mayor. It's a big agenda push from players far removed from the turmoil he produces. It is far better for the ones that do not agree with him to just wipe their hands and let him ride the ship down than try and fight it.
Going to take someone like Robert Gibbs or Jonathan Lee to unseat Little Lord Fauntleroy. Problem is, why would either of them stoop that that headache/salary given how successful they are?
Evidently a man of the people
...
11:04 plus 1
Sadly, the white guilt liberals seen hell bent of funding the sinking ship and therefore prevent the full-on demise that is required for any real change.
Some of y’all act like folks living outside of Jackson have a responsibility to care about whether Jackson is successful or not. We don’t, that’s why we all moved, to get away from y’all’s shit and the incompetence and corruption that is Jackson. I won’t even stop in Jackson to buy gas or a cold drink any longer. Y’all deserve the effing misery you continue to elect.
Maggie Wade. Seriously.
Please God, someone run against him.
demographics is why Chowkey gets re-elected. jackson is about 85% black, and the overwhelming majority, easily 90%, of black folks consistently vote democrat. that leaves about 15% white folks and about half of them vote democrat. so, you looking at about 84% of the total jackson population that consistently votes democrat. that's what a republican is up against. so, you can pretty much write off a republican, white or black. and if it's between a black democrat or a white democrat, the black democrat wins. it is what it is. that's just my two cents.
Given how much you folks cry , you make it easy for him, who wants to listen to a bunch of non vested crybaby’s like you guys ?
Yes.
1:18 non vested as in Kevlar vested?
@Kingfish @ 7:45am - That’s the problem, all the non-retreads are gone. Retreads are all that remain. Jackson has to fail ala Detroit .
I have every intention of being the next Mayor of Jackson,MS. Formal announcement coming soon
Fred Johnson Jr.
He’s living rent free in a lot of heads.
Chowke and Xiden up for re-election...what could possibly continue to go wrong?
Chowke was hoping for a windfall on a garbage contract and on a water maintenance contract, so I guess he needs to continue to eat out of the public trough until another grift comes along. Right?
Kenneth Stokes - never thought I would say that.
It's time for the responsible citizens of Jackson to find a candidate to run against him. There's no other option. I intend to do my part to work with private citizens who still care to find a replacement. Make no mistake, there are still enough to put together a movement.
The city can't take this another 4 years of a foolish, do-nothing, socialist, grifter. Game on.
Who said the following: "I need more time to finish what I started"?
A. Joe Biden
B. Chokwe Lumumba
C. Neither
D. Both
I used to think, "Stokes? Hell no, what industry would sit in a room with him and consider locating a business in Jackson?"
But, since no industry is going to locate in Jackson anyway, I think, now that Stokes would be an excellent mayor.
I hope and I pray something takes you far far away from our city, our state Ludumba! WE DESERVE BETTER! GO AWAY!
Jeff, please make Jackson good again.
@708 that’s funny. Jeff Good’s campaign slogan could be if you smell what Jeff’s cooking.
Speaking of numbers and such, I wonder if Carswell has data reflecting the labor force participation rate for residents of the City of Jackson.

Yarber's problem was that Yarber was Yarber.
Jeff Goode, if he were to run, would get fewer votes than Charlotte Reeves ever got.
