It was a press conference for the ages as Kenneth Stokes called the Jackson Mayor "Lying Lumumba". However, the Ward 3 Councilman was just getting warmed up as he said the Mayor was incompetent and had "a relationship with dope boys." Make no mistake, this was Kenneth Stokes completely unvarnished and unleashed.
The press conference was held on Lanier Avenue this morning. Mr. Stokes blamed Jackson's water crisis on the Mayor's alleged incompetence and inaction. "Tankers could have been on the street long before the storm", said Mr. Stokes.
Mr. Stokes said he does not speak to the Mayor. He said he will not accept the Mayor's calls because "I don't talk to liars. Mayor Lumumba said yesterday he had to go to Stokes's home just to speak to him. Mr. Stokes rebutted the Mayor, saying "He knows he can't come to Kenny Stokes house."
The Councilman groused for a while about Jackson's water problems but turned up the heat several notches when he discussed crime. He said the Mayor won't come to crime forums as he questioned his "relationship with dope boys or his relationship with dope." (12:30). Mr. Stokes repeated the statement. Reporters asked Stokes to provide evidence to support his claim but he just repeated his claim.

"'My question to the citizens of the City of Jackson is this: Did you become Mayor when he became Mayor?' queried Councilman Kenneth I. Stokes."
As a citizen of the City of Jackson that is no fan of the Mayor, I reply: Huh??
Stokes is just mad because Lumumba is out grifting him
Stokes rocked.
How did you realize that was “STOKES” in that hat?
I support stokes on this.
Jackson has gotten so awful that Kenneth Stokes is the only one in city government that seems sensible. I never thought I would say this, but it has become true.
I have listened to Kenneth Stokes for years and I have come to the conclusion there is nothing wrong with the guy.......he genuinely cares about Jackson which is a lot more than I can say about the other politicians in the area.
the man isn't very polished but neither am I
and I am a white guy from rankin county
When I first came to live in Jackson five years ago, I asked a Black gentleman, a military career veteran, how did Jackson become such a shit hole. Without hesitating, he told me that "we have too many unqualified Black folks fighting for control over the city's limited resources." He opined further, that if there had been no white flight, beginning in the 1970s, he thought that Jackson would have continued to be a safe and secure place to live. From what I have seen, Jackson is destined to go into some sort of receivership, similar to what happened to Birmingham, Alabama.
Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn eventually...
KF, I really wish you would set up an interview with Councilman Stokes to revisit what he had to say that day. I remember reading watching it right here — THREE years ago — and thinking I wanted to tell that lady that, as a Belhaven homeowner, I I knew exactly how she felt and understood completely her plea for “just a little help.”
Mr. Stokes used the term “rookie mistakes” to describe the mayor. We should be way past anything about Antar Lumumba being chalked up to a rookie mistake, but honestly I’m afraid he is an eternal rookie, forever the amateur. He has done nothing to demonstrate that he has learned a thing other than to make more elaborate excuses for the piss poor job he has done.
We are not far from the next mayoral election. Are Kenny Stokes’ constituents going to show up and cast their votes? How much, if any, have things changed between the councilman and the mayor in three whole years? Know this — nothing has changed from where I sit, unless getting worse is a choice. Not a man, woman, black, or white I know believes a word this mayor has to say.
He's not wrong. I'd support him if he ran for Mayor.
I agree with 4:06. KF should have an interview with Stokes.
Thirty years ago, Stokes was the "Crazy Aunt AOC" that lived in the cellar. Now Stokes is the voice of reason in Jackson.
Has Stokes gotten wiser or and Jackson declined that far, that fast?
Attn 2:50 PM. You do realize you live in a county where white men beat their wives within an inch of their lives . You also live in a county where people driving through your county with Texas licenses plate will be stopped. Do not have a drink and drive past the Pearl River on Lakeland Drive without Rankin county license plates.?.
I have several questions for the Jackson inhabitants.
Do you feel safe driving in Jackson?
Are you comfortable bathing, washing your dishes, drinking, washing you clothes, washing your dishes which you are going to eat on after driving ta a fast food place in Rankin county, Madison county, or some other county? Are you comfortable on the interstate after sun set?
Kenneth Stokes for Mayor !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>Attn 2:50 PM. You do realize you live in a county where white men beat their wives within an inch of their lives
lol. LMAO even.
>You also live in a county where people driving through your county with Texas licenses plate will be stopped.
And that's a bad thing because...? Most of those stopped are transporting hard drugs.
Can we get Rita Brent to do another video?
Geniuses are often called crazy before folks realize their genius. Stokes has been on point from the beginning, we just be catching up. That Rita Brent video alone (that highlight Choke's stupidity) could get Stokes elected if/when it would go mainstream. Kenny wouldn't even need to campaign...

@1:39 not positive but i thought that during Lumumba’s last campaign he repeatedly touted to jackson residents that “when I become mayor, you become mayor” - thinking that is was Kenny was calling him out on there. although i’d argue that if lumumba was talking to the thugs and criminals when he made that promise, he might have been telling the truth for once!
Gangs from inside MDOC have a lot to do with what’s going on in Jackson despite what Commissioner Cain spews.
@7:13pm troll: In case this was a genuine question, yes to all of the above. Except the part about driving to Madison or god forbid Rankin County for fast food. I’ll “risk my life” at any restaurant in Fondren, Belhaven or the District over the Madison and Rankin County (mostly) chain options. Appreciate the reminder of one of the reasons I still live in Jackson despite its flaws.
@8:56 - I’d be happy to share with you the pictures of when I got shot at in Jackson.
I moved to Madison after that.
You dodge a bullet and come back and tell the Jackson story. And call the police and they don’t answer.
Y’all enjoy the uptopia. The rest of us can walk a dog without getting chased or shot at.
If going into Downtown Jackson, for business or pleasure, middle of the day, where does one safely park?
Or go down there after dark: who among you feels safe walking from or back to one's car unless paying for valet parking? KF is a court observer, he can't carry his cannon to, into, from Court any more than the rest of us. Does he feel exposed in that jungle of theft and death?
This was posted for a reason. Either more lies are about to come out or the dope boys are about to show up.
12:38pm
"Dope Boyz" are just part of crime in Jackson. Chop shops for stolen rides, pistol pilfering from parked rides and carjacking of occupied rides, all by inner city teen thugs, persist.
Albeit he is aware of Lumumba's destructive incompetency and bs, Stokes recently proposed banning gun shops/gun sales in Jackson. He doesn't need to ban legal sales of guns, he needs to support Stop and Search roadblocks and other means of getting stolen/illegal guns off the street.
I thought the Supreme Court ruled that Stop & Search roadblocks were unconstitutional.
Have they issued a new ruling?
Let us all pray for Kenneth Stokes' health. Good men are hard to find.
