Adkins Drive Shooter Arrested
Governor Tate Reeves, Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindall, and Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba are announcing a major crime initiative right now at a press conference. The presser is live-streamed below.
Governor Tate Reeves announces the creation of Operation Unify, a joint operation between federal, state, and Jackson law enforcement agencies to make Jackson a safer city.
The Governor said Capitol Police arrested a suspect in the Adkins Drive shootout Friday night. Law enforcement sources said the suspect turned around at the sight of a Capitol Police roadblock. Police quickly apprehended the suspect after a short chase. The vehicle matched the one in the video and the license plate was in the back of the vehicle. An AR-15 style firearm and two modified Glock pistols were found in the vehicle.
Mayor Lumumba said the operation is an opportunity to focus more on common objectives and differences.
Governor Reeves issued the following statement:
Governor Tate Reeves today announced a major public safety operation taking place in the city of Jackson. The large-scale public safety operation, called Operation Unified, is the result of coordinated efforts between state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies.
The operation involves surging state, local, and federal law enforcement resources to Mississippi’s capital city. Operation Unified started in mid-January, and its goal is to get drug traffickers and violent criminals off Jackson’s streets.
“Jacksonians deserve to live in peace, and they should not have to fear for their safety while running errands or commuting to work,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “Together with our local and federal partners, we will put a stop to it. As one unified front that is committed to stopping violent crime, this operation will help us to do exactly that. I’d like to thank our law enforcement partners for helping us tackle the crime plaguing this fantastic city.”
Agencies participating in the operation include the Mississippi Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Narcotics, Capitol Police and Office of Homeland Security, the Jackson Police Department, the Hinds County District Attorney and Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, the Mississippi Department of Corrections, the FBI, DEA, and ATF, as well as the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
During the press conference, Governor Reeves spoke directly to criminals operating within the capital city.
“Your time here is over,” said Governor Reeves. “You don’t run this city, and you are not immune to the law. We will not surrender our streets to you, and we will never – and I mean never – rest until you are behind bars. Your partners in crime are getting caught, one by one. And I promise you this: all those who prey upon the residents of Jackson and our great state will be caught and they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Law and order will win the day here, and you will be brought to justice.”
Joining Governor Reeves at the press conference was Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell, Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba, Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens, and Jackson Police Department Chief Joseph Wade.

Wonderful! Jackson can prosper when crime is properly addressed!
2:15pm
Jackson cannot prosper until Public school students are in schools of their parents' choice and pursuing excellence in core curricula including math, science and language skills. Such opportunities can simultaneously prevent some of the teen crime.
Whoa, the Mayor participating in an agreement with the State? What's gotten into him? Election year?
Glad the crime problem is getting some serious attention.
2:33pm
Parents don't choose where their children go unless it is a private school. Otherwise it's based on where the child lives. Parents would also have to actually force their children to attend class for school to be a crime problem solver.
Next
"a joint operation between federal, state, and Jackson law enforcement agencies"
And Chockwe let Tate take center stage?? He must be serious about reelection.
If they want to get serious about crime they should set an example and start with ex Gov.Bryant and current Gov.Reeves and Brett Farve, otherwise people at the bottom of the food chain will never believe they are serious. One set of laws for the politically connected and another for the poor bastards that don't have access equals business as usual !!
Lipstick and a wig on a pig... wake me if/when there are some results.
Prosecuted? By whom? Same DAs and judges that keep releasing the criminals with no bail?
Laughable.
Jackson leadership will start to cry racism and overreach in 3….2….1….

Some, but not all. What also needs to happen is the influence to lead these types of lives have to be removed. Putting them behind bars or early graves is the way to do that.

Pound sand. The people at the bottom of the food chain in Jackson choose not to have jobs.
One question I had about the dashcam video: The timestamp said October 28, 2023. Did it happen last year or on Friday?
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/dashcam-video-captures-driver-avoiding-jackson-mississippi-shootout/ar-BB1i2LWe
Lumumba's contribution will be a prodigious contribution of gum flapping.
No way Antard feels comfortable about his re-election chances if he's participating in this effort.
No judges are involved in this initiative. Can you say revolving door?
I thought it was an old video. Jackson Police lie so much.
Governor Reeves committing to this effort along with all the agencies will improve the situation drastically. You have to start somewhere and this is a start.
They better prosecute EVERYONE in federal court, because they’re getting low bonds and a slap on the wrist in the circuit court… unless you’re a cop.
Note the last one listed: U.S. Attorney’s Office. That's important because that will bring in a different group of judges.
2:54pm.
Wrong. Legislature and Governor are belatedly now studying plan for School Choice, where a tuition acct, equal to current per pupil cost in public schools, enables parents to choose any public school, and possibly any private school the parents choose, thence apply their tuition account to that school. Private schools would cost on top of tuition acct plus private schools could accept or reject applicants.
Arkansas has lead the way in this dynamic area of reform.
What does this really mean? Who's in charge of Operation Unify? What new processes or procedures are now in place that weren't before? Will actual crime statistics finally be released so we know whether this effort is helping anything? What metrics are in place to measure results?
3:54pm
You nailed the Mayor for his weak standing. Lil Choke is also offering an "Ask The Mayor Forum", as if he gives a shit. He will just bloviate obfuscation that is unbearable to hear or read.
Lumumba must be running for re-election. Got to show how tough he is on criminals.
The most important person not represented was the Adjutant General of the Mississippi National Guard.
You can trot out Reeves, Chokwe, Tindall, Council-persons, city and county employees, local PoPo...But until the national guard of this state is involved, ain't shit gonna improve.
The crime crisis is deeply rooted in culture that has been built over decades. This surge in law enforcement will be nice but to address the immediate needs but won’t solve the problems long term. Good to see some action being taken, it will give Jacksonians a break.
Defining "Politics"....check those stat's every year from now till eternity. In the meantime, keep that powder dry my friends.
But I thought that hizzonner's highly publicized "real time crime center" eliminated most crime, or was that just a perception? Right?
Where was Rukia? Maybe paying her taxes?
Chowke was hoping for a windfall on a garbage contract and on a water maintenance contract, so I guess he needs to continue to eat out of the public trough until another grift comes along. Right?
Ya da…ya da…..ya da. The whole criminal justice system is like a funnel. Law enforcement at the top, the middle is prosecution, next is the courts, at the bottom the correctional system. Making the top of the funnel bigger does nothing.
Lumumba isn't calling it racist and actually agreeing with the Governor?
Re-election time is near.
Tate stabilized Jackson's water "crisis" within a few days.
He's now attempting to slow down Jackson's crime "crisis".
Perhaps he can also spare a MDOT crew to fix the broken traffic light "crisis" in the Capitol City.
GOP leaders coming to the rescue again of Democrat failures. I’m detecting a pattern.
too little, too late
"Perhaps he can also spare a MDOT crew to fix the broken traffic light "crisis" in the Capitol City."
I took my wife to the airport at 5:00 am today and noticed the light poles between the north-bound and south-bound lanes of I-55 were not working while it was pitch dark. Whose responsibility is that?
Does this mean that there are finally some adults in the room?
Awesome news! Had to read the headline twice; could not believe it!
Making Jackson and the metro area safe for children to grow up in is the bipartisan goal that could bring us all together!
There’s hope!
Election year shenanigans…
Why are all negative Jackson comments posted on this site published but anything negative involving Madison is censored?
Just wait until derek Johnson and the NAACP file a lawsuit.
The responsibility for the lights belongs to MDOT. They are according to what I have read trying to come up with a better way to prevent the theft of the wiring from these poles as soon as they repair them. They know it is a problem, and they are looking at what other states are doing to prevent theft. And no, I do not work for MDOT. Best wishes to them and I too hope these are repaired soon.
7:47 you should drive from Terry Rd in 20 and Medgar Evers(Hwy 49) in 220. It’s as dark as Sierra Leone. Kind of spooky actually.
I guess TateR decided he isn’t going to be a “do nothing” 2nd term Governor.
Two huge economic development Special Sessions and now this for Jackson - all in one month!
Big big deal!
Before long Tater and Chowke will be besties singing kumbaya over a brewski while smoking Cohiba cigars.
@4:56. The Mississippi National Guard is unsuited for law enforcement operations in Jackson. Just because they have machine guns and tanks doesn’t mean they are trained to do what JPD isn’t.
"The Mississippi National Guard is unsuited for law enforcement operations in Jackson."
And your basis for that assessment is what?
I missed the speaking event but would like to know if the mair was wearing a Kevlar vest.
As many just stated these criminals will be tried 1st in a court where the crime gets the toughest punishment which most time is FEDERAL COURT, then STATE taking 2nd with longer and tougher punishment to ANYONE who thinks they can harm an individual, business or whatever mayhem these STUPID CRIMINALS think they can get away with. If you see something or know something SPEAK UP NOW! The days of hearing family members in public talking about their children committing murder and saying openly in a well know store and or shopping center saying “ Police can’t prove Nothing!” Is here and gone. Eye a contributor to society and not a taker, even if it means turning in your own to save someone’s lives. Stop contributing to minors with alcohol, access to guns and BE A PARENT! You are not a friend first But Loving Parent! Take note what Michigan Law just did with Jessica Crumbley and MS will follow holding PARENTS accountable! If you can’t control your homes, then LEO’s will not play while innocent blood is shed. Have we forgotten 9/11 and taken for granted what a Great Country we live in! Respect God first and the laws our LEO’s in all levels are trying to PROTECT! Thank you to all branches of Law Enforcement for the work you do and SLOW DOWN on our Roads! Everyone deserves to get home safely. Leave early to be on work on time.
And where exactly are they going to put all the criminals they catch? All of the facilities in hinds county are over capacity now.
5:06 PM, the crime culture you reference is real but applies to only a very, very small percentage of the people in Jackson. The vast majority are good people that do not want the lawlessness, but they are constantly propagandized/indoctrinated by leftist Democrat politicians, so-called journalists and professors in order to keep them mad at those who would facilitate change; AND, most importantly, in order to take the spotlight off of the leftist Democrats that unapologetically allow the lawlessness i.e. crime to destroy these cities.
Crime has been a leftist Democrat tactic used to take over and keep control of cities for many, many decades, regardless of how much they fail their people. The rich white Democrat politicians, and especially the rich white so-called journalists and professors, refuse to call out the Democrats running these cities, even when innocent children die…in exchange for their support of white Democrats in state and national elections (SHAMELESS!).
Read this very fine Washington Times article:
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2023/jul/5/problem-with-jackson-mississippi-and-america/
It’s too polite, but at least a journalist has finally had the guts to say what some? have been saying for many years.
None of us should care who fixes the crime crisis. Keeping innocent children safe should be a bipartisan goal.
February 14, 2024 at 3:50 AM
Sorry, but I don't agree with putting the parent behind bars unless they provably aided and abetted.
Good comments, 7:18 - But this entire issue is larger and wider than 'thu chillun'. Safety for 'innocent children' will follow change and will be a biproduct, a natural outcome, (big) IF change ever occurs.
You've almost fallen for the age-old democrat talking point and plea of "It's for the children", or, as Schumer likes to say, "For our grandchildren and their children".
The capital city belongs to every citizen of this state and that's reason enough for all to be, at least, concerned. But, what in hell we can do about salvaging Gomorrah is the unknown.
February 13, 2024 at 9:06 PM
Probably because this isn't called Madison Jambalaya. I mean if you want to start a blog covering all the shit in Madison then start one.
I'm hopeful they may have gotten the message that only their party zealots aren't tired of seeing elected officials behave like spoiled children!
We "hired" them to do their best for ALL the citizens of Mississippi, not just their " running buddies". We expected mature and responsible humans not whiny, unpleasant babies.
AND, unlike the zealots who think they know everything about everything, we expect them to find the most viable solutions for problems and understand pie in the sky is BS and perfection is rare if possible at all with competing interests being the normal state of existence.
It'd be nice if they can do this as adults so adults that are left in the citizenry, start to feel represented! That begins with talking about the issue and actions that can be taken, not about others or the political parties.
Frankly, smart men with courage, honor, and integrity seem to be disappearing. They have been replaced preening, immature, greedy children who go "me,me,me" and " want, want, want" and " boo, hoo, hoo". Money and attention is all they crave. They don't have friends, they have servants who become enemies if they don't throw themselves on their swords to prove loyalty. Criminals think that way too.
And, many of you want to re-elect the spoiled, rich boy brat in chief who has had to buy "love" for a long time!
Surprised at Shock-Way's participation-- his voter base hates the police.
Lumumba's remit now grows even smaller. Once the responsibility boundaries of the Capitol Police expand in a few months JPD's role shrinks further. The half-Mayor has lost control of the public safety narrative in Jackson.
FBI was touting a similar cooperative program last year. What’s new with this one?
2:33, said: "Jackson cannot prosper until Public school students are in schools of their parents' choice and pursuing excellence in core curricula including math, science and language skills."
I blew Dr. Pepper outa my nose on that one! A thinking person, familiar with Jackson, Jackson parents and JPS, knows that not 5% of JPS parents give one hoot in hell about where their children matriculate, only that they catch the bus (most days).
Jennifer Crumbley and her husband did aide and neglect. He was a minor with many guns that Ethan’s parent bought. He personally asked many times to see a doctor for help mentally, not to mention he had 15 cavities at one time that his mom told coworker about. Parents must be parents. 8:27 and the parents mentioned are those assisting buying alcohol, allowing underage to drink at their house, knowing drugs are coming in and out of their home. That TOO is contributing if you allow this or participate; up to an including not reporting crimes to LEO’s. Even LEO’s have turned in their own children when they knew they had harmed others or committed crimes!
Without a reformed judiciary, it won’t work. But is is a good first step.
@ 3:16 AM.
The Guard could muster perhaps 150 Service Members with MILITARY Law Enforcement training in the most dire of situations for a relatively brief period. Not the months or years it would require to accomplish military objectives ( the budget hit the Military Department would take from this would require Legislative authorization, no FEMA or "Big Army" reimbursements). The majority of these personnel do NOT carry a weapon as part of their civilian jobs and would NOT be mentally ready for the day-in, day-out life and death decision making process required on the streets of Jackson. Then, there is matter of equipment. From weapons to vehicles, it is intended for a conflict, a war. Sure, the Guard responds to the Coast for a hurricane but in a role of assistance, not arresting criminals. Those are my observations in brief, basis of which is my 28 years as a civilian LEO in Jackson and the metro area while concurrently being a Military Police in the Guard for 42 years.
2:33,
JPS will prosper when JPS higher ups can no longer:
1) Give automatic grades of 50 every term to high schoolers.
2) Change students marked as absent to present.
3) Blow bond money on stuff before fixing things like HVAC.
4) Give people random jobs at Central Office while there are teacher and bus driver vacancies.
Jackson now has trash pickup and Cap Police. JPS is the one big thing left to fix that can easily be fixed.
We get it @11:53. You're not willing to help.
Actions speak louder than rhetoric.
Feb. 14@10:11 so many facets to the whole situation regarding the City and the federal and state takeovers. Lumumba was hands down the least enthusiastic participant in this press conference. Idk if he’s humiliated because he wasn’t up to the job or if he’s fine with doing 1/3 of the work while taking home 100% of the paycheck. Knowing him, I’d say both. He’s a loser, but fuck him, this is way bigger than him and he knows it and he knows we know it etc. In any event, this explains the very visible, amped-up presence of the Capitol Police all over the CCID, and maybe even the lit-up JPD cruiser I saw the other day at what looked a lot like a significant traffic stop.
This is a start. Two things in closing: 1) I actually like this Chief of JPD and 2) Hinds County judges, you better be listening cause you got the cavalry breathing down your necks.
In recommending involvement of the Mississippi National Guard, I'm not worried about which or how many of them might have LEO training. I want them establishing a presence, standing guard, running blockades and roadblocks, directing traffic and monitoring entrance at clubs and rowdy gatherings. A few of them are even firearms experts, probably 60% of them.
Those of you who poo-poo that idea need to consider the value of JPD today and what a waste they've become under Chock's direction.
Drive behind the pumps behind the old Cracker Barrel and look at the homeless encampment along the creek. QT had to remove the picnic tables out front from the loitering.
Chok the Turrible still winning! Just duped Tater, the state and the Feds into doing his dirty work to address the crime he’s allowed to run amuk in Jackghanistan and it didn’t cost him a dime. He continues to play chess while rest of us play checkers. Failing upward Bumble by 73+% in 2026.
February 14, 2024 at 11:44 AM
Aid and ABET not aid and neglect.
Tell me again how much of my state and federal taxes are going to police the city of Jackson even though I don’t live there?
When everyone else fails to do their job, they get fired. When Chokme fails to do his job, the rest of the state and federal government comes to rescue him from his incompetence, and then his voters re-elect him. Does anyone else see the craziness that I do in all of this?
The Governor calls it a crime initiative. The Mayor calls it his re-election campaign.
